has anyone upgraded components in eD A3-300 cabinet?

Right from the beginning this thing gave me problems. The first week I owned it one of my cats rubbed against it and the plastic tabs holding the cover snapped. For awhile it worked, then the amp went. Each subsequent amp sent to be by eD (three in all) has line noise, they insist I have a ground loop problem, I insist that it's a bad design.

So, I wonder if I can use the same cabinet and replace both amp and driver to make this something worth keeping.

Thanks.

You could check Parts Express. they have drivers that are every bit as good. and amps too but the hole might not match.

I would post this in the DIY forum. Some really smart guys there.

True. Just a shame that now he is left with a really expensive enclosure. Please keep us posted on how the modifications work out.

He might just be able to swap out the amp and keep the driver. And yeah, the lack of QA at eD is a joke. Way too many people on their second and even third amps.

Thanks much for the help, I'll give the DIY forum a try.

I'll need to upgrade subs soon, and will go with HSU or SVS most likely (definitely not eD) , but if I can salvage this one I'll put it into action as well.

I saw youtube videos of Elemental Design employees/staff setting their products/subwoofers on fire... and laughing and having fun as well while doing it...

I went from eD to Hsu and will never look back. The whole experience (pre-sale to post-sale) is night and day vs eD. You cannot go with SVS either, I have owned their products as well and they are top notch. Can't go wrong with either IMHO.

Thanks again for the positive confirmation. Both are highly regarded here, so this is where I will look. The sub upgrade will take awhile, I'm rebuilding my entire home theater from the ground up and speakers, receiver and display are already cause to hide the credit card bills
