OPPO 95 VS Parasound DAC-1000

Thread Starter
Hi, Im a new member & this seems like the place to ask this question. I have a parasound DAC-1000 & P/LP-1100 preamp, would the OPPO 95 be a good a good replacement for the dac+preamp going to my Parasound HCA-2200MK2? Im looking to consolidate my equipment while getting a more capable player than my Meridian 596. Thanks for any help! PS im looking for a very neutral but accurate sound, Im not sure if the oppo 95 does this but I do have a sabre 32 dac for a separate setup and it is quite good.

you may want to post in the Oppo BDP-95 thread as well. Lot of folks on there seem to have hands-on experience with large array of products.

I guess at this point, swapping in the Oppo BDP-95, you'd be relying on quality of analog circuitry and on-board DAC's compared to discrete Parasound components.

I would think the DAC-1000 & P/LP-1100 preamp combo would yield extremely refined sound (maybe better than the Oppo?), although I've never experienced these components myself. Also not sure how the Meridian DAC's would compare to the Oppo's DACs?

The Oppo BDP-95would definitely provide much more in total functionality though- ie. BD, SD-DVD, SACD, DVD-A, HDCD, streaming/DLNA, and more. You really can't lose here (especially for the price).

The Ayre C5xe/MP SACD/CD player WAS the gold standard for CD/SACD playback when I bought it (for $6000) a few years ago.

The OPPO BDP-95 sounds noticeably better. It has redefined CD/SACD playback technology. It blows away every player for under $10K IMO. Enough said.

What do you mean "gold standard"? What is it about this player that made it to be such thing?

Its sound quality.

How does it get determined? In other words, what's the process used for figuring out the sound quality of disc player?

I listen to my music and decide how it sounds. If that doesn't work for you, maybe you should do a survey or do some research. I don't.

The secret to the 95's good sound is "Lard", all jokes aside you should ask the creators, as an end user I can only tell you it just does
