Spectracal's new "Rent A Kit"

It looks like Spectracal has a nice rental program. I see two big advantages. One, a person doesn't have to invest a lot in upfront cost on something they may only use once a year. Second, one can use a higher end meter to profile their less expensive meter.

I think the latter is especially useful, since it can be used both to re-calibrate a colorimeter and make it more accurate on the displays in your home (all via profiles).

That is TRICK! I may have to do that if I think my i1 Display pro ever starts to drift (no idea if I can or not, as it is enclosed).

They did this awhile ago (maybe still do) with a ColorMunki Spectro. I think it is $99 at the time, but you had to put a deposit of I think $600 down.

Which I actually ended up doing. It was a flawless transaction. Profiled it against my i1d2 (which showed how horrible it was out of spec, and the meter was only 6 months old). VERY VERY smooth transaction.

I have a feeling that may be the bulk of their business from this forum.

I wonder if Derek has any plans to let the Minolta venture out on the rental plan.

Probably was in violation of the forum advertising rules. Since this thread was not started by Spectracal, its ok.

More succint and probably a little nicer than I would have put it.

To throw more fuel on the fire for profiling your specific display or just using the i1 Pro outright, Michael has an article on calibration tables.

Yeah, what happened? I had a general question on using the the software with a Mac, got a polite response and now it's all gone What rule did I violate?

Sure you can rent the Minolta CS-2000 for a price but I don't think our lab guys would like me very much because it is in use some 12 hours a day for research and NIST calibrations.

For those of us that have our own Calman licence with a few addons, is the $99.00 program still available?

Too lazy to look...

How much would someone be willing to rent a K-10 or a VideoForge for?

Interesting question. My guess is most people would be happy with the DPG-1400 for a lesser price for a generator.

For the meter rental, I would be curious how many people are interested in using the rental program for profiling. If it is significant, then there might be interest in the higher end meters. My guess is pj owners especially would like to profile, since they might have to calibrate more often depending on pj usage. I think the uncertainty on a low dE with the colorometers may be one reason some hesitate to pull the trigger. I could start a poll to see what people are interested in and willing to pay. What are the differences between the higher end meters like the PRs, Klein, Jeti and Minolta?

Thanks for the feedback we are going to be monitoring this program over the next couple of months and based on feedback will be adding more options/hardware.

Where did the $99 ColorMunki Spectro rental option go? It's no longer on the SpectraCal site.

There was a $99 Colormunki rental deal? That would be a great option for all of those wanting to profile.

Sweet. I know what I'm doing next month. :-)

Since I'm in the area, can I come by and do a pickup and drop off?
