NBCSN PHI @ PIT FiOS.

Audio on NBCSN is the same as CNBC with all sound in the L, C and R.
The only difference is there's more arena sound in the L & R surrounds.

I find this odd as we know Wendel mixes for DD 5.1 when he does the NHL games on NBC and the NBC Sports A announcing team is doing PHI @ PIT so you would expect to get true DD 5.1 audio.

Looks like the NBCSN alternate feed will have to be used (DirecTV has it, don't know if cablecos carry it) -- Unless OT ends fast.
I watching pitt/phi on TSN in Canada and its the exact opposite haha

L and r are way louder than c. I can barely make out the commentators

If I'm correct the NBCSN alternate feed will contain blackout programming for the Los Angeles area since the local RSNs in the teams home markets have exclusive coverage of the round one games.

On DirecTV I'm getting the game on the primary and alternate feed

cable only has it as in only being able to show 1 feed in your area.

been this way for the past few years Directv get's a better ver of a comcast channel then Comcast cable systems.

Now the real mess will be in round 2 where the systems without NHL network will miss out on there local team games.

NBCSN and Versus have never had true DD5.1 audio, and tonight is no exception.

Repost of the issue. Issue concerns out of market persons seeing the entirety of any game of the NHL playoffs:

No, sorry. I was planning on being on the NBCU conference call Monday & asking, but other pressing issues arose. Let me see if I can get an answer.

So the only chance of getting real DD 5.1 is games aired on NBC or will they be the fake DD 5.1 until we get to the Stanley Cup Finals?

Ken any chance you can ask about the audio?

Thanks.
NBC ought to be real 5.1. I suspect the lack of 5.1 is due to a lack of infrastructure at Comcast, not because it can't be done that way on site.

So did the overlap issue arise last night? Did LA/VAN start before the end of PHI/PIT?

If so, for those out of market of LA, were you able to see the start of the LA/VAN game on NBCSN alternate (assuming you have the alternate, such as on DirecTV)?

Thanks.

Can you get in touch with Wendell (who I haven't seen much of)? It would be nice to get some inside info into the audio situation across the NBC/Comcast broadcast platform.

The overlap issue didn't arise last night, it was very close, the NHL tweeted that if necessary they would air the beginning of the game on NHL Network, however, DirecTV customers could see it on the NBC Sports Network alternate feed (it was active and is marked to be used again tonight for the 10:00 game)

I'm of course watching CNBC tonight (GO SHARKS!!!!!),

but the sound issue is disappointing. I always turn down my center channel and jack up surrounds for game/crowd noise only, no commentary, when true 5.1 is being used (where commentary = center channel only).

Still holding out hope that tonight's CNBC HD broadcast will be DD 5.1, but not holding my breath.

With CNBC carrying Hockey now, is it true that CNBC HD is Not available on Directv??? I get it on cable, but a couple of friends told me that. Can't be true???

It is available and has been for a while.

OTT @ NYR MSG HD FiOS.

Checking the audio on MSG HD apparently they don't do DD 5.1 either.
It sounds like mono with everything in the center channel with a little sound in the L & R front and surrounds.

On NHL Network's alternate channel we are getting NHL On The Fly.

Did NHL Net take off the ticker for Sens/Rangers? I'm blacked out.

To answer my own question, no, and look at all this crap on screen. Thank god I can watch on MSG with none of that crap.

EDIT: Removed scores in case someone is DVRing the game

It's truly disgusting how NHL Network broadcasts games.
The NHL Network game graphics are ugly.
There is no reason that NHL LIVE bug needs to be on screen and the score bar should be off the bottom.

Is NHL network using the MSG Network video feed and announcers?
Yep, it was MSG. I also think it's odd that they get the feed with no graphics and overlay their own, what is the point of that? Are they trying to hide the fact that they're using MSG's broadcast? It doesn't make sense and their graphics rarely match up properly to what's being shown on screen. Just show the damn feed unaltered, there's no need for that.
Caps/Bruins running over time, I am watching the Hawks/Coyotes game now on NBC Sports Alternate HD. They're picking up the Hawks home feed (Comcast Sports Net, member of NBC family)
Getting no CHI @ PHX game coverage on FiOS.

So much for every game every night.
NHL Network should be airing this game till NBCSN is done with overtime.

NBATV does the exact same thing - been that way for years.

Really don't understand that. It's a fairly new practice for the NHL Network, you used to see the broadcast unaltered, then they added the dumb "NHL Live" bug, then they started using their own graphics...
The funny part is when NHL Network showed highlights they were from MSG HD not the NHL Network broadcast of MSG with NHL Network graphics.

It's always like that haha, I really don't get it.
Even better were the in-game highlights on the NBC networks getting credited to NHL Network but coming from the nice clean CBC feed.

Screw you NHL Network. It isn't that hard to find a better way to watch the game.

Checked all of the feeds last night on Dir. HD:
1. NHL Ch. Very good video quality from the MSG Feed, and it's always good to hear Sam Rosen. The clutter, WOW, they have NHL 4 times on the screen, see above post. Clear off the score bug and all of the crap and let us watch the game!!!
2. CNBC, Video quality started out good, got worse, and then got better again. Anyone else notice that??? Pretty good presentation, they could move the light Cnbc bug...
3. Nbc Spts, Very good video quality the whole game, the best graphics, as they we're minimal. Alternate Ch. also looked good
Audio was OK, didn't expect much and wasn't rewarded....

MSG has some of the best picture quality of any HD broadcast as far as I'm concerned, always looks top notch.

I noticed that as well on CNBC, and the bug is kind of silly but transparent enough that it doesn't bother me a whole lot.

Overall, I am extremely happy with all the coverage we're getting on the NBC family of networks, being able to watch every playoff game is simply fantastic.
