On WNBC-DT on FiOS I have the announcers in the center.
Arena sound and production music in the L & R.
There is almost no sound in the rears.
I might have been wrong but I thought I could hear the announcers a bit on the L and R channels, but much louder (and only their voices) from the center channel. Definitely a 5.1 mix. I could have been imagining things.
Good PQ. Game audio is DD 5.1. Studio segments are stereo.
I guess this means that no matter what the audio of the event or program is that NBC Sports Network is broadcasting, they convert the audio to a virtual mono mix which is very goofy.
Maybe Ken can get in contact with NBC and ask if NBCSN will ever broadcast DD 5.1.
It's silly that all games on NBC are DD 5.1 and the NBCSN games are not.
Even NFL Network is broadcasting DD 5.1.
More DD 5.1 for PIT @ PHI.
Hearing the crowd in the rears.
Watching Game 3 of NYR/OTT on CNBC and I must say it just hard to watch. Any sort of movement at all on the screen it is nothing but macroblocking and confetti and it is real tough to watch the game. I did send NBC Sports an e-mail about this and hope to get an answer back. Meanwhile the picture quality is far superior for the BOS/WSH game on NBCSN that is going on. I don't know if this is a cable company issue or something on CNBC's end. By the way, the same picture quality issues happened on MSNBC and CNBC during their Winter Olympics hockey coverage. Is anyone else getting this major macroblocking/confetti issue on CNBC?
Wouldn't be surprised if your cable provider has allocated CNBC a lower bitrate since it's generally "talking head" type content that doesn't require a lot of bitrate to look good, and now that there's fast moving action on it it looks bad.
I'm almost sure it's the way NBC Universal delivers their HD channels to cable providers.
The issue with the macroblocking Confetti type appearence on video transitions happens on MSNBC and The Weather Channel on FiOS and FiOS has spoke to NBC Universal after customers complained to tech support.
NBC Universal says FiOS is the only cable system to have many users complain about the video quality of the NBC Universal Comcast Cable channels.
Edit: There may have been a different issue with the NBCSN feed on CNBC tonight.
From scanning this thread, I gather it's not my display. Anyone noticing the iris issues during the playoffs? No constant to it. Watching PXH/CHI and again the ice is changing from blue to almost yellow.
Hope Hoss is ok. Raffi should be suspended for the duration. That wasn't cool. However I believe in karma....Keith, Shaw.....just sayin
