Very nice board.

Crazy loaded with amazing features. Rock solid overclocking.

The memory controller is far superior to just about any other board on the market now. You can run DDR3 @ 2800mhz in blink of an eye all day long till the cows come home. You could hit DDR3 over 3000mhz if you find the ram to do it.

It's just better than most other motherboards.

Nice choice. I am jealous. (I have Z68 Deluxe)

Yes. I don't think the power LED should blink. It's disruptive and un-CE. My TV, AVR, etc. doesn't blink when it's "Off" - why should my HTPC? It's even worse if you're using it in a bedroom.

The last time I had an ASUS board I left the power header disconnected. They should add a toggle in BIOS for that.

I got one up & running No Blinking here

hey how do you configure the audio for a ATI/AMD Video card ?? anyone point me in a direction ??

I'll send some Pix when I get all the parts
I got up & running temporary right just to make sure all is well just waiting on the Ivy Bridges now .. stuck a lowly i3 in one just get to run the parts & see if things were stable ... Just need to figure out the audio into the AVR now ...

My P8Z77-M PRO blinks, i'll probably disconnect the power LED, i don't need it anyway.

Lol @ "lowly"

i3 is total beast for htpc.

A g530 might be lowly but still gets job done easily.

I don't think you need IVY level for a htpc CPU.

Note: my pc is i7 2600k overclocked @ 4.5ghz. Not defending a purchase decision or limited budget. It's just true.

The Ivy's will just have better support for the GPU side , PCI 3.0, USB 3.0,sata6 gbs & why buy a Sandy when the reason I'm upgrading the old 775 sockets(I was Rocking QX9770 & multiple Q9650's )
It is my attempt to keep up with Moore's Law L O L for 3 months L O L

ShSSSh I have the wife convinced we "NeeD" this now !!!
The 77 are just dollars extra over the 68's , those deluxes have very cool WiFi & BT to them ,gives me an excuse to get some pad devices as well .. WinK WinK ......
If I'm going thru this trouble to up-grade everything then cutting edge is where I'll start ..
I did when I got the 775 sockets there too & look how long they lasted , Heck SSD's were just on the horizon then ...
I must say that 132 GB SSD as a cache drive is stunning .. Me Like It !
these as multi use machines are not only HTPC but a gamers, work stations, media centers ,

YeaH I keep telling myself that over & over

You don't need better support from the CPU side, and current non IVY CPU's function fine for HTPC use in a typical fashion. And- I have many non IVY HTPC's that have SATAIII and USB3.0 also.
I think current Sandy options on H61/67 and Z68 are fine. And the new 75/77 chipset is even better for about the same costs. But I certainly would not wait to build a HTPC for an IVY CPU, or recommend people need the IVY level performance or features for a higher cost if budget was a concern.

Now- If someone just wants to be cool and get a bad ass IVY based HTPC for the sole reason of it being bad ass and cool-- go for it I appreciate nice things. I appreciate high end and high performance things. I appreciate products that are excessive beyond logical application or value. It's always cool with me.

Agree. I also built a pretty cutting edge LGA775 not too far in the past. Still use it daily for an office PC now. It's an Asus ROG Maximus motherboard and an E8500 Core2 Duo Wolfdale @3.16 stock. Raising the bus speed from 333mhz to 420mhz was like taking candy from a baby. It ran hard at 4.0ghz for years as a gaming PC. I originally had an 3870X2 card (anyone want to buy it cheap?)
It's amazing that when I built it X38 boards were the best and new. I got a Vertex2 120GB when they first came out for like $250+. The speed was amazing! That was years ago.
Today- it's a capable PC. It totally owns Word, Excel, and PDF's ... lol.
But it would not stand a chance against any of my 1155 socket PC's running SATAIII level SSD's. Couple years changes everything indeed. But at least I have a decent 4 year old PC. A typical low end LGA775 is near junk now IMO. I see the slow crappy Dell, HP models with 2GB of DDR2 selling under $100 all the time on ebay now. A 2.0ghz Core2 duo with Slow as dirt 2GB DDR2 off a normal HDD drive is a painful and torturous experience. I could never live with one daily anymore.

yeah i agree with all you've said & sorry about the lowly i3 crack , but if I'm buying a new board then I also want the new CPU ,drives ,Video cards , to stave off the up-grade till I have to .
the issue with buying the best CPU @ the time of build is a resale issue later down the road also
those 775 CPU's I had sold for really good cash , selling off the 775 parts paid for about 1/3 of these builds .

these builds are actually cheaper to build than the 775 builds were & the $ is worth less now , but the parts are cheaper ....

just took the new build out to the HT & wow all that was needed for DTS sound was plugging in a HDMI cable into the Video card ..took me days to get my Asus Xonar HDAV3.1 deluxe up & running 7.1 on the 775 builds , that to me is priceless ....

+1 and amen to this. My Gigabyte H55 doesn't blink but all my ASUS (and one ASRock for that matter) do. I saw specific mention for one Intel board that it's configurable for Intel (can't remember which one). When I do my Trinity build it'll be Gigabyte this time.

It's not a huge deal for the living room but for the bedroom I always have to leave the power LED unhooked. In the dark, those little blue LEDs are bright. With my latest build that means putting my ear right next to it to determine if it's sleeping or not since it's super quiet.

What's worse: a website with blinking text or a PC with a blinking LED? Discuss...

I think the system is pretty good. It's way better than most MFG's. No idea why you said that.

If you click that link you can even see the original rebate and scan code... lol.

I did this alot also. Overbuild. I have a couple computers with Core i7 2600K CPU's clocked to 4.4Ghz ( which is a mild overclock ) and in my most demanding tasks are only running at 17% of their power. Even if your building a computer you want to game on, save the money get a i5 and put what you save to a better GPU.

+1 here.

I also have 2600k and 2500k. Both are excessive for htcp purpose.

At mild over clock 2600k and CPU is not your limiting factor so increasing CPU ability won't offer tangible results in gaming or most applications.

You need to get way up to cutting edge dual gpu cards before CPU becomes a factor.

Gaming does not need any more than an i5 2500k realistically.

I like to overbuild also.

Anyone that wants to overbuild and get excessive for no other purpose than being too much and overkill then I say go for it! That's cool in my book.

Just understand its not needed before you waste your money.
