Weird color banding on my HP DLP

Dear AVS'rs,

I have a weird color banding issue where the picture looks a little bit like a 16 bit picture (although 16 bit is worse than mine)

An photo says more than a thousand words:

Don't pay attention to the horizontal lines, that's my camera, but you can clearly see the yellow going into white in a banding fashion. In movies this looks horrible on human faces.

I checked my video card, VGA and HDMI cable but the problem stays. Is there anything I can do about this problem? The projector's got only 500 hours in and should do another 7500 on this lamp, it would be a waste not to be able to use it.

I'm running 1024x768 32bit on a HP vp6325 DLP projector.

Thanks in advance

Get a calibration disc & use a gradient pattern to set the color wheel index (in the service menu). That will clear up the issue.

Ok thanks, how do I acces the service menu? I can't find it between the regular menu options and it's not in the manual.

Thats a bit more tricky. Every model usually has some combination of key presses to bring it up, just need to google it.

Thanks, I googled through various keywords, unfortunately there is not much information on the net and somehow I can't find a support e-mail address for HP.

I set the projector colors to 'video' now in the menu and the problems becomes less apparant, but it's definitely still there.

Anyone else has an idea of the key combination or just how to get to the service menu?

Remove all inputs and put up the menu screen if possible. Does the issue remain or is the screen clear.
Next find some other device to hook up as input be it a old DVD, Old VCR anything.. that will eliminate the computer as input.. You need to figure out if it is the projector or the input.

Thanks. I did what you said, hooked up a dvd player and an mp3 player through component and s-video, both did show the same problem.
I need to get into that service menu, that is clear. The question is how...
