Deadliest Catch season 8 on Discovery HD

Well didn't see anyone talking about it yet, but 2 hour season premier is tomorrow night.

From what I saw on the show's Facebook page, the Harris brothers are not on the Cornelia Marie this season. not sure if the CM is in the show at all. Jake is on the Northwestern and Josh is on I think the Time bandit. Jake has been on Sig's boat before...I think season 6?

maybe because it is played out and redundantly boring

I still watch it(DVR'D not live anymore) and since Capt. Phil is gone It wouldn't bother me when they cancel it.

If I remember right the CM had extensive work done during the off season and into Red crab time.

According to the Cornelia Marie's wiki page, the CM did participate in crab season but is not going to be on the show. In October it came out of dry dock after maintenance and a re-paint.

According to TWOP message boards, the re-cut best of specials from last season have painted the Harris brothers in a much more positive light. So expect alot of soft focus sympathy for them in the upcoming season. If you are not a fan of theirs, (I am not) it may make you stop watching if not fully prepared for the amount of sap coming our way.

Haven't watched the "best of' episodes, but I've had the sense that Josh at least has his head on straight. It'd be good to see him on his own, away from his brother.

Is it my system, or did the fat bass sound and background drums not come through like they use to last year. If i would have saved at least one episode from last year i could have compared, but i didnt

I'm pretty sure I read an article months ago where the owner said she was done with Discovery/Deadliest Catch.

Oh, it was the captain. From http://www.oregonlive.com/movies/ind..._a_mutiny.html

Q. How did Cornelia Marie Devlin, the boat's majority owner, react to what went down?

A. The last time I talked to her was about a week ago and she's coming up to go on our tour June 1, and she's completely done with Discovery.

Q. Why?

A. Because of what happened.

Q. So will the Cornelia Marie not be on "Deadliest Catch" if the show is renewed for another season?

A. I'm 99 percent sure it will never be on "Deadliest Catch" again.

Q. Even though Jake and Josh own a portion of the boat?

A. What they own is mostly debt. They don't have any equity. And the boat is in terrible shape.

I watched this show a long time ago and after Phil's death I was going to stop watching, then a combination of shows ending... and me trying to find stuff to watch I find myself back at this show. All I can say is I'm glad I don't contribute to their suffering. I don't eat crab or seafood.

This weeks episode with the Coast Guard rescue on the Wizard was impressive. That kind of stuff is tragic to the people it happens to, but it is amazing to watch these guys fly out to a ship, drop down on a wire, get the patient and fly off to the hospital like it's a routine ambulance run.

I eat crab and seafood and happily contribute to the fishermens wealth and well-being.

Also, crazy to see the Seabrook stay out fishing so long with that huge storm coming (last boat to head for shelter) and then try to scrape its way through that narrow, shallow straight with only one engine and no depth finder in giant waves and incredibly strong tides. (We'll see if they make it next week.)

I miss Phil but they really gave those two kids way to much sympathy. I like wild bill now more than all of the other captains. This years king crab season seems a bit boring. Seems like the seasons episodes numbers were cut in half too.

The Coast Guard never ceases to amaze me. Their abilities are extraordinary out there. I see them quite often out here along the coast of SoCal. I worked with a guy who was a rescue swimmer for the USG and his stories were intense. He too was in kodiak for 8 years during the mid 80s to early 90s. I guess the crab fishermen have mellowed out quite a bit these days from the past. They didn't have these crazy quotas they do today so it was a free for all.

If they didn't make it the footage we saw last night would probably have been unavailable.

Understood. I say that a lot to myself while watching the show -- "Well, obviously they aren't going swimming, they have this footage for the show...."

Lol exactly ... They are just trying to stir up some drama. It no longer works on the show. It's quite predictable. This season just isn't very exciting.

I am way behind watching, but my DVR keeps picking up new episodes on Friday. Is Fios schedule just whacked out?

Not just fios, my TWC does the same thing, must be the way the epsiodes are labeled
post #21 of 24
Dtv is doing the same thing. They are changing the titles of the shows and the DVR's are picking it up as "new".
The Friday show is the same basic show that ran on Tuesday of that week but kind of an extended remix version with a little of VH1's "Pop Up Video" thrown in. They throw in some extra footage that wasn't in the Tuesday show and the occasional Twitter comments from viewers appear on the screen. Thus the "Social Reload" name.
More like "Social Overload" to me. I don't want them cluttering up my screen with junk while I'm trying to concentrate on the show I'm wathing.

If I want to know what is going on in the Twitter world while watching Deadliest Catch, I'll login and check it myself.

Just shows you how desperate they are. It's clear that they are losing viewers.
