remoe control sconces

Hi guys,

So I am slowly upgrading my man cave and am on the search for battery operated remote controlled sconces. (anyhere from 3-4)

I have found some nice ones but unfortunately the remotes are programmed to each individual sconce, meaning I will have 4 remotes for 4 sconces. I am trying to keep this budget friendly, maybe $50-$60/sconces but is there anything out there where I can use one remore to control all 4?

Heck I might even settle for 4 plug in as long as I can use one remote.

Thanks in advance!

There are two ways to do this inexpensively if you are willing to plug them in.

1.) You could wire the sconces to a Lutron Maestro Remote control IR Dimmer switch and use its remote. In fact the Lutron will run off of any good learning universal IR remote control as well. The Lutron Maestro gives you on/off, as well as a full range dimmer, and one dimmer preset. You can put up to 600 watts worth of lights on one dimmer. The only downfall to this is that the Lutron Maestros all operate on the same IR frequency and there is no way to change that. So if you use more than one you have to isolate them from each other. By that I mean you can't put a Lutron Maestro with your sconces on it right next to a Lutron Maestro with your pots on it in the same box. I bought my first one of these from Lowe's and then another 3 off of eBay.

2.) The Woods company makes a remote control switch that you plug into an outlet and then plug your light into that. Then you can use the remote that comes with it to turn the light on/off only. There is no dimmer on this remote control. You can control up to three devices this way with the one remote. You probably could cheat this a little bit by using one of those adapters that allows you to plug more than one thing into an outlet. I bought this from Meijer.

PS: Lutron does make a more expensive remote control switch that you can set the frequency on and then put them next to each other. It is up to you if you think it is worth it to buy a remote control switch that would probably cost more than all of your sconces combined. I don't know where you live, but if you are near a Menard's they have some nice inexpensive sconces in the $20 and under range.

If you are willing to plug in, Insteon makes plugin modules that can be linked together and dimmed using a single remote. It would be IR and line of sight, though, so if the plug is behind anything like a couch they may not work.

bought my dimmer at Home Depot, made by Commercial Electric. The wall part replaces the light switch and the remote is about 1 1/2" x 4 1/2". It controls 5 of my wall lights. Hope this helps..
