2tb is cheapest price. Almost as good as 500 or 1tb ... Under $100 still and you can get double capacity .

I have seen $89 2TB's recently. I would do that over a $69 500GB drive

This has to be the nicest and most capable sub $300 HTPC.

I might upgrade the case PSU and CPU at some point and use these for an office PC. Not my favorite choices but I went economy.

I was suprised I could get high end 120GB SSD performance with 8GB DDR3 1600mhz, on Asrock w decent Sandy CPU for this price. Even the LiteOn is pretty decent as far as optical drives go.



Guess I got another PC build this weekend. I think I might keep this one for a while for myself.

I read the HDD thread & I looked at Staples. The largest HDD they had on their website was a 1.5TB WD Green for $114.99. Also a couple 1TB drives: a WD Green for $109.99 and a WD Black for $139.99.

Micro Center has a 1TB Seagate Barracuda for $94.99 & a 1.5TB Seagate Green for $84.99 in-store only. CompUSA has a 1TB WD Blue for $89.99

From the reviews I've seen, the WD Blue was not rated very well. The 1.5TB Seagate Green was better, or maybe I should say less worse.

I've been reading the threads about Green vs. 7200 rpm drives. Obviously I don't want a slow drive, but I also don't want what might possibly be a noisier fast drive. From what I surmise, the WD Green is variable speed which might contribute to its lack of performance because it takes time to change speeds. Would this mean the Seagate Green which is 5900 rpm might be better because it's speed is fixed?

Presuming I'm going to get an SSD in the near future, is the Seagate Green a decent drive to start with since I do need storage space for OTA recording?

I actually have that same exact drive but have not used it yet. I bought it for $69.99 right before HDD prices went up. I still may need it for a backup, but I guess I could borrow the insides until then. I'll open it up & take a look.

This is an upgrade of my current HTPC build which is five years old.
