What do I need?

We recently purchased a TV for the front entrance of our school to show slideshows of the activities and things going on in the classroom, sports, music etc. It has the usb option on the side and the slideshow option the TV handles but I am not impressed with that. At this point the video I have on the usb drive will not work and there are videos that are really cool that I would like to go along with the pictures. I would like to make cool slide shows in my pro show producer program but I don't think they will work. Is there a device that will stream usb to the component inputs or even the HDMI inputs? That is what I would really like to see. Thanks.

What you might be looking for are digital signage products intended for this kind of task but cost a lot more as they are intended for businesses.

Consumer based media players do have an autoplay functions that can auto play certain media when turned on but they tend to be pretty basic. The WDTV Live has this feature for instance but it only works on music or videos so you'd probably want to produce the video including the music/pictures.

Another option is some wireless HDMI adapter which captures the output from a desktop PC so anything on the PC is displayed through the screen.

Would a roku work? Put the slideshow on a usb and stream it through the roku to the TV?

Roku's only play H.264 video so you'd have to encode everything into H.264/MP4, they don't have an autoplay function as far as I know.

There is a Plex client for Roku's but this needs a network connection and running the Plex media server on a PC somewhere.
