Comparisons aren't easy to make for this show. They increased the # of shows overall compared to last year. That can't have helped the content or the ratings. Add in the Olympics window, and the comparisons become even more difficult. Who knows whether this will help or hurt the ratings in August.
So You Think You Can Dance has almost the opposite problem (or advantage)-they have fewer shows than before.

This was my initial search. Then this. But then you have this that I just found. Go figure. Here is a better detailed analysis of the show since the season started. Last season AGT averaged 11.82 million per show. They are down 1.5 million per show this year compared to last year. Still a #1 show.

I don’t see the Olympics having any affect on AGT. If they were competing at the same time on different networks, yes, but I see no relevance at all.

That's not the way it sounds when you quote someone else's post and append a "Who cares?"  My skin does its job well enough that it didn't hurt but my eyes also work well enough to know when someone is poking me.

If you're now saying that what you wrote isn't what you meant, the answer is to write what you mean.

I'm unsubbing this thread.

Don't do that, there aren't a lot of comments as it is. biggrin.gif It’s easy to miscommunication or misunderstands on the Internet so feelings can easily be hurt. Happens to everybody at one time or another. Hang in there.

I think the show will lose viewers due to the Olympics 2 week break, at least the semi finalist will have a lot of time to rehease then..

I can't speak for anyone but myself, however, I find the Olympics more of a snooze fest than AGT ..

Nah, we’re coming into the meat of the season, so this is the time for viewership to pick up. We’ll see. I’ll be as anxious as ever, even though this year can’t compare with a couple of years ago, I still have a guilty pleasure for AGT. But you may be right about the extra time; if they can’t get it right after that much prep, then I expect to hear a few buzzers.

So how do the AGT staffers divide the acts up into the various quarterfinal shows?

Year after year I've watched and there are nights like last week where pretty much no-one really deserves to move on and then nights like last night when most of them do.

Is it done randomly such as drawing names out of a hat? Or do they maybe assign acts to nights in a way that they think will maximize ratings? Or something else?
If it is not done based on a random draw, then whoever made the decisions on these groupings should be fired.
Howard discussed that on his radio show Tuesday. he said that last night's panel (before the show) was absolutely loaded and he didn't understand how they pick who goes on what nights either. he felt like last night's was overloaded with good acts that would have easily gotten through if you had put them on a different night.

We are not watching AGT this year due to Howard Stern. In all sincerity I would like your opinions regarding the impact of Howard on the overall show, its contestants, the live audience, television viewers and last but not least Howie and Sharon.

Thank you.

Well then you are missing out based on preconceived notions. He has been an outstanding judge.

Thank you.

As I've said before on the thread .. Howard has brought a whole new dynamic to the show, in a good way. Although he is still working thru his need to overpower and out talk, he does a much better job than Piers ever did ..

As far as the lineup from last night .. I myself would rather see at least one kick ass night over several mediocre at best .. and last night was a kick ass night ..

Howard is right when he says it's a tough vote .. I don't think cannon guy or Ulyses will got thru .. Diddleman, maybe ..

I don't thnk Diddleman will make it. I was really impressed with his prior performances and really could not tell what the "trick" was or how he "did it". This time I think it is pretty easy to tell how he "did it" and therefore I was not as impressed.

It was very obvious that he opened the case from a different side, you could see him turn it around. He must have had multiple slots in the envelope so he could pick the right one.
His presentation was more professional and polished but the actual "trick" was not as impressive.

Yes, certainly not very smooth .. I'm sure in the live setting, it played out better than on TV .. and it was a clever idea .. he just did not pull it off well ..

I've said it before with Dittelman, but the talent isn't in the actual mind-reading, its in the performance. Even though its obvious how he did the trick, the performance is the key factor here. He put on a show, incorporating Howie Mandel, and made it fun. It was more showmanship than in either of his prior performances. I've been saying that Earth Harp guy is good since page 2 of this thread, and it's too bad we've only gotten to see him twice now due to his auto-qualifier status. But the judges are right, he's a stone-cold lock.

1. William Close (Earth harp)
2. Olate Dogs
3. Dittelman
4. Joe Castillo

I'll say the tiebreaker comes down to Unity in Motion, or maybe Rocketman. A lot of good acts, and I wont be surprised if I'm completely wrong. Most of these acts would have been guaranteed on any other week. Especially last week.

In the case of a magician or "mind reader" it really is more about the trick and fooling the audience and creating that "Wow, how did he do that" IMO. The most polished performer will totally bomb if the trick or illusion is bad or easy to figure out but a great illusion can make up for a little lack of polish to the performance.

Yeah William Close really killed it both times I've seen him. It must sound amazing live.
I think William Close and the trained dogs but I am really unsure of the other two. I am pretty sure the "nut buster" guy is done, I really don't see how he got this far. How many times and different way can you watch a guy getting nailed in the balls?

I can only imagine how cool it sounds live with all of the harp strings over the audience's head. The vocalist should get billing in the act. He is better than any other singer on the show.

Judging by what is popular on youtube.........a lot;)
Really agree, this guy should not have made it past the audition stage.

I must agree with many above, the groupings have been strange....I know a lot has to do with being able to get some of the sets cleared in the limited time span a live show offers but there are a few acts going home (or into the second chance) that would have walked it in a different group.

Tough picks last night for sure!

I thought exactly the same thing ..

William Close should win it, unless he has a very, very bad performance ..

I really like the sand light guy too ..

All That was also a judge's wildcard pick in the first season. How many chances do they get?

Dang it, results didn't play in my area because of Baseball! mad.gif Guess I gotta go to the internet to find out who went through.
