Hello everyone. I was hoping you could help by giving me some recommendations on what to look for on craigslist and ebay. I am looking for a set of towers first and will add a center and surrounds later. I am looking to spend $300-$500 on the towers.
These will be for listening to music, and also watching movies in my living room. Emphasis on music sound quality. I want to make sure that the towers can handle frequencies down to 70-100 hz or so without distortion at medium to high volumes. I don't want any holes in my lows and I don't want my sub working up too high in the freq range.
I came across some Boston VR-960s on Craigslist for $350 and am thinking those may be a good option, having the powered 8" "bass unit". (I am in the Denver, CO area BTW.) I have never heard them, but plan on asking the seller for a listen. I am a big fan of Boston VR tweeters having had their Vri in-wall speakers at my old home. I thought they sounded way better than my Def Tech Pro Monitor 200s and bipolar sourrounds that I used to have.
I want the vocals and highs to be very detailed. I listen a lot to Sade, Alicia Keys, Jack Johnson, Dave Mathews, and lots of other vocalists. I want to hear every breath.
I am using a Denon AVR-4306 for 5.1, so I believe I will have two extra channels free. I know nothing about bi-amping or its advantages, but was thinking that my receiver could be capable of that.
I used to have a set of Boston VRi inwall speakers and loved them. I tend to like clear and natural sounding highs and lean more towards a brighter sound.
I already have this sub and like it...

This is for a 25' X 15' room, with the tv and front speakers on the long wall. one of the 15' walls has a 6' section open to the kitchen.
Please let me know your thoughts! Thanks.
