My mobo turned up today and as i was reading through some of the supplied literature and it said to use the usb reciever for the remote which allows power up from s5 can only be used with a front usb header, but the cases iv been looking at the wesena itx2 in particular doesnt have and front usb ports, so is there anything i can do?

Plug in a long USB cable with 5pin connector on one end and then place the IR receiver in a inconspicuous place. The HDPlex H3 case I got has a front USB port.

For a long time, I had an external IR receiver taped with a little bit of electrical tape, double-sided, to the top of my bedroom HTPC chassis, with a USB extension cable plugged into the back.

My new case has an internal IR receiver and it's really nice to not have that sitting on top.

If you had a case with a window, you could get a USB female-to-USB header adapter and mount it internally. I am not sure the window on the ITX-2 would be big enough.

YMMW, but you could always crack the internal sensor out of the external shell to mount internally or forego the external receiver altogether and get a purpose-built internal receiver.

Im confused, so could i use a usb extension to use a rear port and put the receiver round the front and still use the s5 sleep function?

Unless there's a special header on the motherboard you have to connect to for this functionality, I don't see how one USB port is going to be different from another. The only thing I can think is if you have to hook one of the front USB ports to a special header on the motherboard. Perhaps in S5, the motherboard only keeps power to a particular internal USB header and not all USB ports? It'd say so in the manual (hopefully).

To use this reciever the manual says you must hook the front usb port to a specific usb header and cir header

I have an ASRock motherboard that I have an RF logitech keyboard/touchpad , an old MX5000 bluetooth mouse and keyboard, and the supplied ASRock remote hooked up.

I bought an extra internal USB cable (you can buy different lengths here to fit your case. The Rosewell one I have has space between the 2.5 drive kit to 3.5 slot that I was able to fit the ASRock IR USB header internally, but still able to access it with the remote. This allows me to S5 function. However, I turned on the on with USB mouse and keyboard in bios and I am able to turn off my RF keyboard turn the computer off and on with it and then turn off the keyboard it self so it doesn't mistakenly get knocked.

The remote is ok, nothing great, but it works for Media Center. There are much better options then the ASRock stock one.

When you fitted the ASRock IR USB header internally what sort of range did it have? did the fitting inside the case cause many problems with reception/signal?

It works for the couch across the room and mostly just head on because not all of the extra USB IR ports are visible. There is no plastic or metal in front of the front tip of the USB receiver when I mounted in the chassis. It has drastically better reception outside the case but for me it works great especially since I use the RF keyboard pretty much all the time now.

Have you ever thought about dismantle-ing the usb ir case to aid its reception?

You could but like I said I get the S5 function with the RF keyboard why would i disassemble something and possibly break it for little gain.
