Infocus options?

Hi all,
It's been a long time since I rapped at you, but here I am again and considering a projector upgrade.
My options are constrained but I have the possiblity of getting an Infocus projector at a decent price.
So my question is, Is a IN3118HD, a business pj with native 1080P resolution and 3500 Lumines a good home theater and PS3 gaming option?

I can also consider other business projectors in their line at reduced price, but I can't find anyone using them for home fun time.

I curently have an X1 and it aint cutting it.

Your help is appreciated.

Whats the difference?

In this case the IN3118HD is 1080P, has HDMI ports and is puportedly good for movies.

The difference is it's not designed for home theater. Will it look better than the X1? Yes.

What are the key differences between home pjs and business?


The only reason I am considering a business pj is because I can score one very cheap.

Sorry to bump this, but can someone explain me what the big difference is and why this wouldn't make a good HT projector?

Home theater usually means dark room like a theater for a more immersive experience... 3000 lumens in eco mode will be blinding in most home theaters ( assuming you do not have a 200" screen). Over 30db in eco will be easily heard during quiet movie passages and could annoy during quiet dialogue. It has a 5 segment 3x speed color wheel and will have pretty severe rainbow effects for those that are sensitive to that. Most business PJs do not have good video processing, so motion artifacts are a distinct possibility. Many business pjs do not have a color management system, making calibration difficult if you want accurate colors. Ok... That's alot of drawbacks, so what are the positives? Its bright and the bulbs last a long time, allowing you to watch in a room with significant ambient light and not worry too much about operating costs.

I currently have an InFocus SP7205 that's been running great for many years, but it's time for an upgrade. I can get a used IN3118HD for basically nothing, and was wondering if I should replace it with that? Found this thread and the recommendation looks like I shouldn't? If cost is a non-issue, would I be better off keeping the 7205, or replacing it with the IN3118HD? Is the offset/throw the same?
