Nor would I. They're really just two ways to solve a problem. Implemented well, either can work.

But IF your primary concern is speed accuracy/constancy, AND IF your budget is in the hundreds rather than the thousands, THEN you will almost surely be happier with a DD unit.

I wouldn't mind a belt drive table as long as the wow and flutter were not noticeable.

But I do find the setup process (counterweight, stylus pressure settings, etc.) somewhat intimidating. Are any of the preset models even worth considering (Marantz TT42, Thorens TD158 etc.)? They come all set up, just plug and play. (I would imagine that with those, one is stuck with the stock cartridge though).

These are generally set up properly (though it never hurts to check). The only thing you have to do is set the tracking force and maybe the antiskate, but those are really trivial.

If you want the plug and play option, yes. Or, as I said earlier, most dealers (including online ones) will mount a different cartridge for you. Again, they'll probably do a good job, but it never hurts to check.
