LG 84LM9600 no longer Ultra 4K????

According to the LG Canada site, where it's described, the res is only HD. Say goodbye to the full-res passive home experience. LG or anyone, say it isn't so.

Too bad if this does turn out to be the case. I have been highly anticipating the release of the 4K model, and will be extremely disappointed if they do not release it. If they release it as a 1080p only model that will suck big time, as the 3D will be half resolution 540 per eye.

C'mon LG, please release the 84" 4K TV this year like you promised!

I wonder since this info is on LG's Canadian site, if someone who lives in Canada can send them an e-mail to inquire about the 84LM9600. And ask why it is that it's only described as being 1080p, when LG had said that it was to be a 4K display. Will be interesting to see what they say.

I tried to e-mail them, but I couldn't because I'm a US resident and inquiries are for Canada residents.

I think the Canadian site is wrong. If you look under specs, it shows the TVs dimensions as 41.4x24.1x1.5. Those are the dimensions for a 55" television. I called LG (US), and they said they are still planning on releasing the 4xHD set this year.

Well that's some very welcome news indeed! I have been wanting the 4K 84" since I heard about LG's plans at CES that it would be released this year.

Thank you for sharing what they told you.

You're right! After looking at the spec list for the "supposed" 84 inch model on the LG Canada site, its dimensions are the same as the 47LM9600. They really need to correct the info.

Thanks again.

No official release date yet. Early info indicates a possible October release, but it's too early to know at this point. The main thing is the TV actually getting released this year. And I hope it does because I really want one.

I contacted LG and asked them about the 84LM9600 and if it was 4K and if it was going to be available this year. This is what I was told:

Yes, actually this new model we are expecting to have ready around the ending of September - beginning for October of the current year is a 2k x 4K display.

So the 84" is definitely going to be 4K and is planned for release in Sept-Oct.

I was at a BB Magnolia yesterday evening checking out Sharp's 80" 844 model. I had interest in it at one time but with 4k on the horizon, I know I'd be buying another set within a year or two. I had Sharp's IR 3D glasses on and was watching 3D on the 844. The nice BB salesman was standing to my left and everytime I turned in his direction the sync was lost. It reminded me of the 2010 63C8000 Samsung PDP that I use to have. I also checked out a passive LG 3D set and was surprised to see ghosting.

Any idea on price for this set? (Also, LG rep told me late September for release.)

Did he say that recently? There isn't much information available for a tv that is coming out in September. My guess is November - at the earliest...

I called LG today and asked about the 84LM9600 and when the release date would be. The person I spoke with told me their system shows a November release. And this is updated info, so it looks like "hopefully" sometime in November we'll be able to buy one of these.

What are you expecting to pay for one?

I'm hoping it will be no more than $12,000. Any more than that and I may have to pass. Current dealer price lists have it at $10,000, but that's not official so it may change. I hope not though.
