I was happy enough to get the price match that I didnt quibble over the tax. Free delivery and we get the silver rewards level status. So $2599 plus 7% tax for the 65VT50. Not bad. I didn't have the heart to ask him about the buytvtoday price of 2549.
I too got the Best Buy Magnolia in Manchester, NH to price match. Before going to the BB store, I tried calling BB to get the price match, but the phone rep a) had never heard of Paul’s TV, b) refused to match the $400 promotional coupon, and c) claimed he didn’t think the $2999 price was real. I thanked him for his time, hung up and drove to Manchester. I went in with the intent of showing the Paul’s price but at the last moment I asked for the buytvtoday price instead. One sales guy went to find the GM to authorize the match while another looked up the BTV web site. In less than three minutes they agreed to the BTV price of $2549. I also opened a Reward Zone credit card account to get the 4% reward…I’ll close the card after paying the balance in full when the first bill comes. Got free delivery and free haul away of my old TV too. I did get a very low key pitch for the Geek Squad protection plan. I took the contract home to read it…only the image burn-in coverage appeals to me.
Delivery is scheduled for the 11th. But before then, I have to go back and ask for the refund of the difference for the new, lower BTV price. ;-)
The phone sales reps may have less price matching autonomy than the physical store general managers, but the whole BB price matching policy seems pretty random. A couple of weeks ago, I emailed two BB general managers and, while they wouldn’t match the BTV price exactly, one offered $2800 and the other $2700. They both said they found the BTV site to be pretty sketchy and would never buy from there. I didn’t feel the need to tell them that I wouldn’t either.
