The Best Buy in store price has been down to $2899 since last week
.

Double post. Sorry.

I went back and the best I could get from best buy was 80 off 599 warranty. That was for 5 years. The question is that 5 years total counting the 1 from the factory or 6 years total. Also I think the warranty on plasmas for up to 2499 was cheaper but don't know but 520 seems like a lot still.

Almost didn't get the price match.

I called best buy last night about Price Matching the Adorama deals and he said he'll talk to the manager, first they said no but he said hold on a second and waited again for like a minute, then the manager said yes. I called first because i want to be sure they will price match, and because i am 70 miles away from that store. the first magnolia store said no to price matching so this is the second one and they said yes.
So i got there about an hour before they close, but the one i talked earlier in the phone was not there any more and we were assisted by a kind of a jerk guy. When we show him the Adorama ad he said no they can't do that because the ad said it's an in-store only and it's from new york and it has to be geographically close, which he means it has to be in the same city. i told him there are lots of people got price matched some are from California and he said they shouldn't because they are not allowed. Now my wife got kind of irritated said calmly we called before we came and we we're told you will price match. We were about to leave before he went to there kiosk where their cash register were and luckily there was a note there left from the guy i talked earlier with our name, the PM'd product and the manager's approval. Then the jerk guy suddenly became a nice buy because he was trying to sell us the extended warranty. We took the 2 year $285 one. We didn't get them to price match the sears glasses because it's out of stock from sears. they have one left but they can only sell at $49, i passed to that.
All in all i paid $2875 including tax and 2yr warranty. Delivery is on the 17th.
We still find it a very expensive purchase though and I hope we'll be happy with this because we're also contemplating on an epson 3020 projector but i don't want the hustle of installing it even though it's a much cheaper and can have bigger screen. Hopefully i made the right decision or i sleep in the couch for the rest of my life. mad.gif

But THANK YOU GUYS FOR THIS THREAD.smile.gif

$519.99 is the correct price for TV's in that price range.

Thanks for the help speakerphile. Now the question is should swap out the smaller bw center for the larger? I did get money off the smaller but works expect the same on the larger.

As a matter of principle I always try to match the the center to the front channel speakers in terms of size. This helps it blend in with the front soundstage in a more convincing manner. Now would be the time to do though, if any. That said, with proper system setup, the difference can be somewhat negligible depending on which models you are talking about. What are the details on your setup?

I am running an old Sony ta-e9000es preamp and Sony ta-n9000es amp. I think the amp is rated at 120 watts min rms with 5 channels driven. The front speakers are rebuilt large advent loudspeakers from the 70's which are 2 ways with a 10inch woofer with a 12 magnet on it. The rears are yamahas that are towers and 3ways with 12 inch woofer in them in the bottom and 2 other speakers in them as well. The rear and matching Yamaha sub were free and work fine. The front work fine, but I wonder if the center is two small being the smaller bw center.

Which center do you have? Also, do you intend to upgrade the rest of the system around the center channel in the future?

Maybe new fronts but not sure. I got the bowers-wilkins htm62.

It probably wouldn't hurt given the size of your other speakers. Especially if you feel the center channel is getting lost in your front stage. The biggest improvement you could make for surround sound is to upgrade your other speakers to whichever B&W series you choose. Having all of them match will create a much more blended and seamless surround experience.

the warranty runs concurrent with the 1 year manufacturer warranty. BB told me this is because the manufacturer doesn't cover things like burn in and ir so if the warranty kicked in after the 1 year manufacturers warranty and you had these issues in the first year you wouldn't have coverage

I am really trying to decide if I want to get an extended warranty through Squaretrade. I typically think extended warranties are rip offs but it seems like a good idea to get an extended warranty for my 65VT50 when it is only $100 through Costco. I mentioned it to my wife and she seemed like I shouldn't waste $100 on the extended warranty. I know she just wants to save money but it seems risky not getting one..Are all of you getting extended warranties?

Tried PM at BB Plano, TX with Adorama, the manager said since its OOS on adorama website, he can't do it frown.gif
Any suggestions/advice before I try other stores in the morning?

Yep, this is true. One exception is home speakers and subwoofers. The plan length adds on to the length of the manufacturers warranty, as long as that total does not exceed 10 years.

Thanks!

No, you can buy the TV from anywhere you want as long as it is a legitimate business. Something like private ebay sellers, selling out of their basements or the back of a truck, they definitely would not cover those kind of sales.

The Costco site explicitly states that they need to be an authorized retailer.

"Costco members may also purchase a SquareTrade Service plan to cover a new TV purchased outside of Costco from an authorized retailer in the US. Service Plan must be bought within 60 days of purchasing the TV."

Funny though, purchasing through SquareTrade directly requires that it be within 30 days.

From SquareTrade.com:
"Coverage only available for new TVs
bought in the past 30 days."

I also saw the Adorama tv specials and they honored them over the phone and the promotional price included a second year warranty for free. Why pay for it!

The BB in Long Beach, the old WOW center at PCH and 2nd st. did price match Adorama without blinking an eye. Again, the salesman was good and I had a good feeling about what I was buying.
mad.gif total bummer, sorry to hear that. I've been considering looking into a cable lock of some sort.

Well my TV was wall-mounted and they were able to unmount it and take off with a 100lb TV in the pouring rain.

No I do have renters, so I should get it back, after i pay my $500 deductible. They also made off with my laptop, iPad. Houston sucks,

They said they would. Funny thing about break ins is that you hear it happens all the time to someone else and you shrug your shoulders and move on. When it happens to you, totally different feeling. Unfortunately you are always some one else to someone else.

yup. I hope they used a pick up truck and laid it flat (they didnt steal the stand that was sitting in the corner. they did make off with my remote). It was raining all day. So hopefully that made the TV useless. What scares me is that i happened to come home for lunch and come back home again at 3pm which is unusual for me - so they managed to pull this of in a 2 hour window

You might want to check into something like that as well.

My apartment situation is something similar. I had Chad come and calibrate it from Ohio so it sucks that I lost that effort. Alarm system is a must - especially when you own expensive electronics. I would never have dreamed that my TV of all things would get stolen. Laptop, iPad understandable. They ignored my Xbox, PS3, HTPC that was connected to the plasma, Epson projector, external HD, denon reciever but went only for the TV. It scares me now that they know what I have and whats to stop them from coming back? I'm now looking to get out of here. I'll take the money from the insurance and wait before replacing everything

Does Squaretrade warranty covers the IR, burn in and loud buzzing sound?
Thanks

I'm planning to buy my warranty from Costco.
100.00 is a small price to pay for a five year warranty for a 3000.00 tv. That's 20 per year for a little peace of mind.
Got a 65VT50 at a BB in North NJ yesterday for 2399. They did call Adorama to verify the price.

Being delivered on Thursday. Can't wait.

Have to research the break in procedure, etc. now.

I think it is 4 yrs total correct? The 1st year manufacturer warranty + 3 yr squaretrade = 4 total years

You're correct. I was thinking about the extra year if the tv was purchased from Costco

It's funny how people will spend hundreds on a car alarm, but when it comes to their place of residence, nothing but a few dead bolt locks. If you rent, renters insurance is a must, a lot of renters don't think it's necessary until after the fact and they're left with nothing (especially with a fire, flood, etc.) Also a lot of people think the owners insurance will cover them, which is completely false.

Were you on the ground floor, or upper level? Were people able to see it from your windows as they were walking/driving by? It's amazing how nobody saw people that didn't belong there carrying a 100+ pound tv and hurrying to load it into whatever vehicle they were driving.

I got the $99 dollar ST warranty through Costco for my 65VT50 purchased at BB. No offense to Speakerphile (who I think is neutral and a great contributor here), but spending >20% of the purchase price on an extended warranty through BB is a horrible investment.

I can only speak from my personal experience, but ST did an outstanding job throughout the claim process when the panel failed on my then PN64D7000 just outside of original manufacturer warranty. After discovering the panel could not be repaired via the technician, ST did not hesitate for a moment to reimburse me the full 2011 purchase price. They'll even add 5% if you would like the reimbursement back in the form of a Amazon GC.

Yes, ST doesn't cover items like burn in or buzzing, but the cost difference more than makes up for it. Besides, is burn in as prevalent on the 2012 Panasonics as it was on the 2011s?
