Panasonic VT50 Deals - Page 64

BuyTVtoday dropped their 65VT50 price to $2399. Gonna run to BB tongiht for one more price adjustment... before the Christmas purchase price matching disappears later this week....

So between the 2, what makes one better than the other? What I understand is that the Redmere cable has a chip in it, has the ability to be thinner b/c of that chip, and you don't loose any quality? The BJ cable is thicker gauge, but doesn't have the chip inside, but what else am I missing as to how this is better than a thicker cable monoprice sells?

It shouldn't make a big difference on either, if all I'm doing is 6-10ft runs of HDMI, right?

Loving my 55VT50 since I got it on Saturday. I'm babying it as far as the stuff I watch. Told my wife she can't watch HGTV, Food Network, or Cooking channel for very long, as they never move their logos.

Not sure how you would reset a calibration yourself. Does everybody assume that BBY just goes into the user-accessible color settings and arbitrarily adjusts values to suit their personal tastes?

If you are not happy with the result, tell them, they will come back out to fix it.

Dont see BuyTVtoday on the Panasonic site for authorized dealers.....

BestBuy is infamous for not treating everyone the same at every store. On occasion you will find stores that ignore policy and match whatever you bring in. I suggest brushing your teeth, being nice, and pick one store/deal to try to match too and press your case while not being annoying/douchie. (Personally I think you'll have better luck arguing Pauls since they are official, but BTT will usually be the better deal since they don't exist.)

Never said they arbitrarily adjust anything, I simply responded to the question asked based on what i have read on this site and at BB's own site of Calibration reviews.
Obviously since they only spend about an hour they don't do as good a job as the calibrators who frequent this site. Or are you proposing they do? Who knows maybe I will take them up on the free calibration, still undecided seeing as I don't even have the tv yet.

Excellent advise by Tolken, just take both the printouts, BTT and Pauls, try BTT first, if no go than try Pauls, which is 100% assured as it is a panny auth dealer, except there is a coupon being used, but most BB will let u match Pauls. Good luck!

I just went to Pauls site and the 65VT50 is listed at $2999. Am I missing something?

The Redmere cable is thinner making for a neater install also has a chip inside is a tad better IMO for longer runs. You just need to make sure you have the ends in the correct direction. Source side etc...kind of like Monster cables. I'm going to be switching all my HDMI to Redmere just so everything is neater looking.

Are you sure they never move those things, even by a few pixels? Also, wouldn't the commercials help "refresh" those phosphors enough to keep burn in down? We get like 90 seconds of commercials what, every six or seven minutes of TV?

I just got my BB to match Paul's on a 55" vt50, but they would not eat the tax($140) I still did it anyway, but was wondering if this is the norm. I tried to get them to discount it more so the OTD price was the same as pauls, but no dice.

Got the 55" for my bedroom. Although I am having an internal struggle, and want to move my Samsung 58" plasma to the bedroom, and maybe get the 65" vt50 for the living room..heh

Thanks for the tip. I went to my local BBY with a printed copy of the BuyTVtoday deal at $2399 and the Paul's TV price of $2499 after the "save500" coupon was applied at the begining of the checkout process.

I presented the BuyTVtoday "order page" showing the $2399 first. The sales guy balked at it because it wasn't "in their system". I then showed him the Paul's TV order page showing the $2499 and he took both to his manager. When he returned they agreed to the Paul's TV price but rejected the BuyTVtoday deal because they thought they were a third party seller.

At that point I produced a printed copy of the Better Business Bureau's report on BuyTVtoday (which is really Worldwide Electronics LLC doing business as BuyTVtoday) showing their A+ rating by the BBB. The sales guy was happy to take that back to the manager which resulted in both of them agreeing to honor BuyTVtoday's $2399 price with free shipping. Of course I had to pay my local 6% tax.

I don't know how long BBY will honor online prices beyond their own website's, but it's worth going for if you want your TV now.

Didn't buy an extended warranty (just never thought there was much value in them) but am interested in others' opinion on a Panny plasma and the Geek Squad extended warranty.

BTW, if you live reasonably near a BBY distribution warehouse, you can pick it up at the warehouse.

Just got back from BB and ABC warehouse. ABC did not have the VT on display but have it in "their warehouse and can order it". BB agreed to pricematch Pauls TV but was not able to eat the tax (which would add about $150 to the cost). On the other hand I would get 4% (double points) in BB dollars which is $100 (that I can definitely put to good use buying Blurays or cables or something) and could get a free calibration. The calibration is an ISF calibration and is apparently certified or whatever by ISF (I am not sure about the exact terminology but that is what I gathered) So for basically 2550 I would get the TV and a calibration. Friend of mine wants to buy one also so perhaps I'll try another BB and see if they'll go for the tax thing if we get two sets........
OR should I just go to Pauls, get it for 2500, keep the 50 and spend it on prof calibration?

Just want to confirm: if I did get the BB set and had them do the calibration, lets say it sucked...I could do as speakerphile said and have them come out for free and fix it! or what would stop me in the future from spending the money to calibrate it through someone that is well respected on this site? Anything that the BB kid "messed up" can be reversed by another professional calibrator right??? I am tempted to at least give BB a chance at it......

Oh, and they declined matching the BTT price although I had printed it out cause it is NOT listed as an authorized dealer on Panny's website. Skeet did they ask you about that?

As has been stated many times, just make sure they do their calibration without going into the service menu (which they probably won't anyway). You can reset to defaults if necessary and have someone else do a real calibration.

Could be wrong here, but I don't believe you can remove the ISF day/night modes and completely "undo" a calibration by simply using end-user-accessible settings.

For an FYI only just so no one gets the idea to buy from them, that's a faked shell borrowing the name. It can be tracked back to another shell and on that one you find out it's the 3rd or 4th version of the site that's been done.

I do understand that you can reverse any setting that has been changed from the user accesible menu. My question is that if they do access the service menus (cause everyone here agrees that that is the only way to really do an ISF calibration) and the guy seems to know what he is doing and later if I did not like that calibration, then will a professional calibrator be able to undo that sort of calibration.

It would also be nice to know how many picture modes BB calibrates. Like do they do both ISF day and ISF night and also a 3d mode or just one mode. Maybe Speakerphile can actually tell us since he works there.

Im getting a cal on my 65VT50 next Thursday, on ISF day and ISF night . My professional calibrator does not do the cal for ISF 3D. it will cost 370.00 is it a good deal not getting ISF 3D done. price also include 50.00 for travel.

Yes, they do create both ISF day and night modes, provided the TV supports this. Most quality TV's do. The job specifies calibration for up to 2 inputs, but does not specify anything with regard to 3D. The service is $250 for 1 TV, $150 for each additional. Each installer should be ISF certified.

I have commented many times on Geek Squad calibration. Standard Geek Squad calibration is not as thorough as with the well-known traveling calibrators. It is significantly less expensive though(most traveling calibrators charge ~$400), and there is typically a much shorter wait for scheduling the service. Also, just to clarify, Magnolia Design Centers have their own installers/calibrators that are separate from the Geek Squad. The above information does not necessarily apply to their offering. Purchasing calibration through a Design Center is more expensive and much more comprehensive. Consider it in-line with what the traveling calibrators provide, minus the traveling, as they are based out of the markets that their stores serve.

They didn't ask about that. I was expecting them to go on the Panasonic site to check them out, but they saw on BTT's site that they were (really just claimed to be) a Panasonic authorized dealer so they never checked that. The only thing that changed their mind from a no to a yes was the printed webpage for the Better Business Bureau showing Worldwide with a "A+" `
