Panasonic VT50 Deals - Page 75

Most economists will tell you that extended waranties are a waste of money. I always refuse them. It is my understanding that IR is not covered.

Still an excellent picture by the way. 7 years later and I'm ready for a bigger screen. After doing my homework - I decided the 65VT50 is a no brainer.

3 days before the Superbowl I walk into BBY Magnolia - its quiet and I'm the only customer there at the time. They have it marked on sale for 2899, but I know I'm just there to see this thing in person because Paul's got the best deal right? After maybe 15-20 minutes of the sales man going back and forth with his manager, the guy comes back and tells me he can do it for 2500. I told him to do better - he came back with 2450. I said if I make a purchase I will buy their longest warranty, but he has to do better. Finally he comes back and says 2399 + tax (6%) w/free shipping is his best price. Mind you - the 5 year warranty was 520. I thought I did great, and I can always cancel the warranty within 30 days for full refund.

Reading through this thread, I see one guy posted he got bby to PM at 2350 (buytvtoday.com) which makes me feel like I didn't do that great after all! I will absolutely be calling them to see if they will knock off the additional $50.

At the end of the day I love the TV, and the extra $50 is not a deal breaker...but I can't help but wonder if spending 3k on a 2012 tv with the 2013 lineup right around the corner was a smart decision? Will the price drop even lower as we approach April-May? Could 3K land me a 65vt60 or even get me close to a 65zt60? I guess we are all pondering the same questions?

On a final note - is the 5 year warranty a waste of money? My biggest concern is IR due to much time spent watching Sports/ESPN and all the lovely static images that come with. Will bby even be around in 5 years? Maybe in 2 years if i have problems they have to replace it with a vt60? Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any feedback.

Knowing the costs involved, I would say you got a great deal! You are are going to have to spend another $1000 to get the VT60 and about $1500 to get the ZT60, approximately, on top of the $2500 you spent on the VT50. With regard to the 5 year plan. There are cheaper plans available, but this one has the most coverage, including IR protection. At the same time, I would say that the likelihood of permanent IR is somewhat low with the current models.

I want to price match Paul's SAVE140 coupon to make it $999 down from $1349.

You should have been able to do it before you ordered it. I called them, they authorized the price, told me to order it, then the confirmation had the lowered price on it. The lowered price was was also reflected in my order. history. I ended up cancelling the order anyway.

Great deal. I got mine for $2475 + tax from BB.

Thanks to everyone for this thread. Just ordered the 55" from Amazon. I spoke to "large item" customer service before placing the order and they agreed to pm Paul's. Interestingly, they wouldn't pm Adorama, but it didn't matter. $1600 for this set is amazing, and i should get 2% in Amazon rewards and they have 30 day price match. White glove delivery sounds nice, too.

Anyone know if BB will PM from "Buy Squad"? They currently have VT50s for 1555.99 until 2/12. It seems Paul's no longer has them for $1600. I'm in for either the GT50 or VT55. Paul's still has the GT50 for $1000 until 2/13.

I tried to compare both at BB, but they had the VT50 hooked up via HDMI, and the GT50 run via component cables, so I couldn't get an accurate assessment (watched The Dark Knight on both). From what I did see, the VT50 killed it, but it wasn't a level playing field. Very tough call with a limited window if I want to jump on one of these deals.

Ya, I wanted to click through on a Podcast I listen to all the time (TheFilmVault) so they get that little kick back and I wasn't sure if pricematching before hand would result in them emailing me a link or something to purchase from. Either way, a quick phone call to them got things worked out, even before my card was actually charged.

Just dicovered that ABT is now listing the 65" VT50 as a discontinued product. The availability of this model is starting to dry up...

Just got back from BB and they will PM Buy Squad: 55VT50 for $1555.99. I may have to pull the trigger tomorrow. Not sure if the prices will drop much lower. If they do, BB will do another PM. Good stuff!

BuyTvToday.com has 65" for 2349, try PMing that instead.

I believe that's a fraud, or at least a very risky site. They seem to have contact information that doesn't match up with where their business is registered and they only take wire transfers... Risky things now a days with no charge back option...

I was suggesting PMing with BestBuy for the 2349 price. No way in hell would I make a purchase from BuyTvToday like sites.

I'm pretty sure best buy has caught on that the site isn't legit. Most Epler have been turned down on the price match when best buy sees "wires only"

Emailed five Best Buy branch managers here in Iowa and within 2 hours, I had 2 that said they would price match the $2,599 price for the TC-P65VT50. I ordered it over the phone to lock in the price and get my order number and in a few days, I will be sitting in front of my new TV. The total price came $2,755.99 after tax1.gif

I'm pretty sure not. Best Buy has cheerfully price matched buytvtoday five times for me since late December, most recently as last week.

I too would never buy from BTVT but so far I've only seen speculation that one could not actually buy from them.

Interesting approach, that seems pretty efficient to me. Where did you find the email address for the store managers? I checked the store page on bestbuy.com for my local stores and didn't see an email addressed listed for the store.

I found it tricky myself. For one local store, it was on the store page just under the store's address and phone number. For another store, it was a simple hyperlink in the News & Announcements section. For yet another store, it was a link called "http://stores.bestbuy.com/591/announcement/hello-my-name-is-charlotte-stromvall-and-i-am-the-general-manager-of-the-concord-best-buy/" that actually pointed to the location "http://stores.bestbuy.com/591/announcement/hello-my-name-is-stephen-gustin-and-i-am-the-general-manager-of-the-concord-best-buy/" (note the manager's name difference between the link name and absolute URL). Another store has a section called Get To Know Us and the manager's email link is in there. And several stores don't have it at all. So there doesn't seem to be any standard.

BB would NOT PM the BTVT for me here on Long Island, but they did PM the EastCoastTV price.

I got mine for $2,499 out the door from my Best Buy. I didn't even have to try very hard. Go back to the BB you decided to deal with and have them at least match Paul's TV price of $2,499, no tax, free delivery. Otherwise, cancel the order until you get them to change their mind or just order online at Paulstv.com, coupon code "save500". Anything else is a waste of $, IMO.

Thanks for listening,

Brian

FYI ebates has 2.5% cashback ($62.50) for paul's tv. Added with the 1% cashback on my amex and I'm getting the tv for $2505 - 87.50 = $2417.50

Slight off-topic, but I bought my tv from best buy, my reward zone status now shows me at premier silver. I read that one of the benefits or silver membership is TV calibration. Is this free? Is it a "light" calibration of a full blown real calibration?
Hi all - I never thought I'd be able to afford the Tcp65vt50 but the price drops have made it too tempting! :-)

Need some advice from you experts, though. I'm perfectly happy ordering from Paul's. Bought another tv from them last year (from a local store, not online) and just ordered a Denon receiver from them online this past week.

I don't actually need this tv for about a month. In fact, I won't be able to even set it up until then. We're doing a renovation and that's when it should be ready. I don't feel comfortable (nor do I have space!) having a tv like this sitting unopened in the box for a month, you know? But I'm also a bit worried about dwindling inventory. I know the current Paul's coupon also expires tomorrow as well.

So I'm not really sure what to do. I'd be perfectly fine buying it from Paul's now and having them hold it for me, assuming they'd do that? I mean we did that with appliances do people do that with TVs? And if I do buy now and the price does drop in the meantime, I know they would still match.

But do you all think the buy now and hold idea is doable? Or is there no need to worry and I'll be able, at worst, to still get it at $2499 next month.

Thanks for any advice!
Frank

Purchased a 65" VT50 today for $2,379 + tax from Best Buy today by using the Buy Squad PM. When I used the Buy Squad price of $2,465, they then wanted to charge me tax on top of that, which would have taken the price to around $2,660. We negotiated it down so that the final price was $2,550 ($2,379+$163 in tax). Overall, I'm pretty happy that it's just $50 more than Paul's TV price. Plus I'll get the Silver status for Reward zone and can then get a free calibration, which will be very cool. Thanks for all of the excellent information here that helped me get a great deal!

It is a real ISF calibration.
