Panasonic VT50 Deals - Page 78

I had a interesting talk with a sales rep at BB last night after returning a open box 65vt50 I purchased. Just before leaving and feeling my pain he stated as of March BB will have a new aggressive policy of PM on online pricing that will be nation wide. No gray areas from store to store. If it's a lower price from a reputable seller they will match it, no more BS within X amount of miles from store. Also, they will be lowering their return policy to 15 Days from 30 days on all purchases.

I just purchased my vt50 65 inch, white glove delivery, a 5 year extended warranty, two pairs of glasses, and a bdp321 all for 2,879.00. TV price was 2,499.00, so I feel I did ok.

From Paul's TV...sorry...forgot to mention that. Seth was a pretty sales person and didn't feel he jerked me around like others did this past week. He appeared to work with me within his sale parameters. What a good price on this highly rated television. Now I need to unload my year old Mitsubishi diamond 73 inch, and my 60 inch Pioneer Kuro...great TV's all. Will make some two deals of a lifetime!

Ya, I noticed the nationwide change too, I'm curious if they're have a more limited selection of stores, like mainly other stores that have nationwide brick and mortar locations rather then just online. It would be nice if it became a standard and Amazon and Pauls were fine but I fear it might turn into just price matching Sears and Fred Meyers and Walmart, etc... in which case most the time prices are pretty close, well, except for Sears, they always seem high and rarely carry much "high end" stuff...

Holy cow, I totally didn't know Amazon was an "any room" type system, I had the guys just leave it in the entry way since it was going downstairs and did that part myself since I thought it would be "out of their terms" anyway if I asked...

BB is going to be closing a lot of stores this year. Their future does not look bright.

Didn't get the rebate from Mr. Ebates. Just asked for the corresponding discount from BB and got it.

When you say "aggressive" do you mean tighter controls and policy which limit price matching to fewer options. Or do you mean more open to price matching anyone who is selling the same TV (i.e. any of the online retailers)?

My BB here will only price match if the competitor has the same return policy. That limits the options to about 5 online retailers.

Paul's TV, for the 65" VT50, now says "COMING SOON - RESERVE ONE TODAY!"

Looks like Paul's is currently out of stock, and assuming they can get more units it might be the last call on this model.

Thank you again buytvtoday, thank you again Best Buy! Yet another $50 back in my pocket today...my P65VT50 is now down to $2299 thanks to six price matches.

I took him to mean, to PM any reputable online seller , Paul's TV- East coast Tv as examples besides the obvious Amazon- Costco-Sams Club etc. This will all start with them lowering the return policy to 15 days from 30. He also stated this was all a effort to halt loosing customers who use the stores as a "showroom" to buy online. He stated "In this economy they can no longer assume that the consumer is "uninformed" on pricing of items across all price points" and this fact has had a huge negative impact on their margins. After he said that I mentioned all the New York consumer electronics outfits that went bellyup over the years even before people could scan a barcode on their phone to check pricing. He just said BB is feeling it bigtime and the future will be a challenge.

This is not accurate. I know you weren't necessarily saying it was. Just letting you know.

quick question - who do you contact to get the PM? do you call back to the local store where you made your purchase to get the PM, or are you calling the reward zone customer service # ?

Thanks

I go back to the store where I made the purchase, since it's on my way home from work anyway. And I like to think the face to face contact helps too. But that may not be necessary...it seems to me that once they made the initial price match, they kind of committed themselves to subsequent price drops during the price match period.

For some who've posted in this topic, it has been, but it wasn't for me. In December I went in with a printout of BTV's site offering the P65VT50 and asked an associate in Magnolia to price match. One of his colleagues went off to ask a manager while he pulled up the BTV site on a PC. Three minutes later, the colleague game back and said yes. It was that simple. Since then, the subsequent price matches for the lowered prices have been done quickly, cheerfully and effortlessly, with the exception of one where the associate at the customer service desk balked a bit, and then the manager who had to OK the price match and issue some magic cash register keystrokes also grumbled a little but then went ahead and did it.

It's the initial price match that's key...as I mentioned, once they've matched BTV, in my opinion they've tacitly agreed to continue to match them for you. Even if you've already bought the TV from them and they did or did not initially match someone else's price, it's worth a shot to try to get them to match BTV. Try an associate. If they say no, come back another time and try a different associate.

Thank you for the advice. In my situation I didn't even get to the point of PM another retailer. I just haggled a bit and happened to be purchasing a second TV (which did require a PM, and was a much smaller bedroom tv for $350 so not sure if that gave me any leverage or is irrelevant) and eventually we reached the price of 2399 + tax (6% in FL). I did ok, but if I can get them to PM btv and save another 100 that would be great.

I am however second guessing the BB warranty (5 years for 519, covers 2000-2500 tv's). Initial thought was this is a big investment and I should protect it as long as possible. I see squaretrade offers 4 years for 299, but I understand only BB covers IR issues. I was also advised that BB will issue me a gift certificate of some sort if the 5 years pass by and the warranty is never used. I should of asked for details or something in writing on this....any feedback anyone?

At the end of the day, 20% of the purchase price for coverage seems too steep. I don't believe BB can or will negotiate on warranty prices, but I guess I can see if they will match squaretrade.

you can get the squaretrade warranty even cheaper. its $99.99 through costso and its available even for non-members for an extra $5 in store or online.

on another note i kind of regret not getting my tv at BB, i ordered it from Paul's and they will not PM BTV (can't say i blame them honestly).

Just tried for a price match at Best Buy. The sales rep was very positive but came back and said there is no more stock on the 65VT50 and they are not expecting to get more.

So I just ordered from Paul's TV. Hoping and praying it is not a buzzer. I just returned a GT50 that was driving me mad any time a bright scene popped up.

For those who purchased from Paul's, can you tell me what build date was on the TV ?

My GT50 from Amazon had an April 2012 build date even though I purchased it just 2 weeks ago.

Has there been any link to the build dates of Panasonic plasmas that are and are not buzzing?

Just pulled the trigger on a 65VT50 from Pauls. Used the SAVE800 coupon for a total of $2499. Looking forward to getting this thing in so I can start the break in period. Any suggestions for a good wall mount?

Thanks for the tip...I heard of Costco's better deal on the squaretrade but I assumed you had to buy the tv from costco to get that deal...

I got this Sanus mount from Best Buy. It is a great mount and very well built for $56.99. It wasn't in stock and BB shipped it to my house.

Thanks Bill. I thought I read somewhere that the 65" vt50 weighed 147lbs minus the stand. I notice the Sanus isn't rated to hold that much. Did you use it on a 65"? I've never wall mounted a TV and want to make sure it stays on the wall!
the 65 inch weighs less than 100 pounds without the stand.

I used the mount for a 60GT50. As skidog mentioned the 65VT50 weighs less than 100 lbs. (93.7 lbs to be exact). So the Sanus mount I linked will be fine as it is rated to 130 lbs.

I got this one for my 65VT, its non tilting 0.53" from the wall, looks beautiful. With excellent vertical viewing angle, why wud u need a tilting mount anyway unless u plan to mount it way high. Mine is mounted about 10" above the center, vertical viewing angle makes absolutely no change in PQ with 65VT.
