Yes, I paid $299.14.
The warrenty for the 65" will likely be a little more as I believe they are based on cost of the product.

More often than not, I never get a warrenty.
But on such an expensive investment, I felt compelled.
My parents bought a Samsung about 4+ years ago and had a four year warrenty and had to have the TV replaced twice.
I bought a Philips TV on black Friday a few years ago and it died less than a year after purchase. Thankfully it was a black Friday special.
Big roll of the dice if you don't.

Congrats... the ball has bounced favorably your way thus far.
In all reality, it's nothing but piece of mind. I believe manufacturers warranty is one year on these sets. In most cases, if anything is going to fail on these sets, it'll happen within the first year of use.
Of course, don't tell my parents warranties are a waste of money.

I have commented many times on Geek Squad calibration. Standard Geek Squad calibration is not as thorough as with the well-known traveling calibrators. It is significantly less expensive though(most traveling calibrators charge ~$400), and there is typically a much shorter wait for scheduling the service. Also, just to clarify, Magnolia Design Centers have their own installers/calibrators that are separate from the Geek Squad. The above information does not necessarily apply to their offering. Purchasing calibration through a Design Center is more expensive and much more comprehensive. Consider it in-line with what the traveling calibrators provide, minus the traveling, as they are based out of the markets that their stores serve.
I had BB do a free calibration (Premier Silver) and he did not set up an ISF mode. He simply adjust colors in the service menu and adjusted the gama on the THX mode. The TV looked terrible after that. I had Jeff Meier calibrate it and it was 100x better. Best Buy calibration was free but a total waste of time.

Square trade vs retailer warranty. thoughts? i figure like Suffolk had mentioned if something goes terribly wrong it generally happens within the first year while still under manufacturers warranty. square trade is a lot cheaper than retailer warranties, but from what i understand you loose whatever money the repairs cost if the tv ends up needing to be replaced. so if i have an $800 repair then it dies 3 months later and cannot be repaired i'll only get back what i paid for the tv -$800. its piece of mind since i generally wouldnt even consider a warranty at all, but if it did die and i only got back like half of what i had paid im sure i wouldnt be happy about that... decisions decisions...

argh! i just double checked the email i received with the tracking info and it turns out they sent me a waybill number. anyway, so now im looking at the screen and it says my TV has been ready for delivery for 4 days and that they tried to call and left a message, which never happened.

by now its probably off their delivery trucks and chances of me getting it delivered tomorrow are slim to none. how annoying. frown.gif

You know, a lot of people say this. Is there actually any data behind it? I find it somewhat counter-intuitive. Thinking back on the items that I have had to have replaced within the extended warranty period, most of them have been after the first year. It would stand to reason that a manufacturer would have a vested interest in making their products last just past the warranty period. In fact, that brings up another statement people usually use when referring to warranty periods. They can't both be true. My guess is neither statement is based on any ACTUAL data.

anyone have any price match adds for 3d Glasses?
Since deciding to build large wall unit I have found Quibids. (don't laugh) If you know what you want and are patient you can pick up some great deals.
I got a Kanto FMX3 for next t nothing. Probably overkill but needed something that could extend out at least 25"

Yep - this type of post needs to be a sticky on the forums for people to see - always happens.

No, I don't know of any particular studies or research that say if a piece of electronic equipment is gonna break, it generally does within the first year of ownership. But I have seen this from my personal experience and other people’s hardships. My parents are currently on their 3rd LCD TV. The first two had to be replaced. I bought a TV on black Friday and it to died, except I didn’t purchase a warranty, so I was out the money. So, I’ve just decided to not buy a TV without a warranty.

I wasn't trying to call you out specifically. Just wanted to point out a funny contradiction in the argument for/against the purchase of a warranty. Everybody has had their own experience with them. I just weigh all the factors for my personal situation and decide based on that. Sometimes I buy one, sometimes I don't. smile.gif

Doesnt our sets come with a 1 year warranty? If bought with an amex or a visa signature, they add an additional year.

Totally understand...
In fact, more often than not, I don't buy a warrenty. Only with TV's because they are such an investment.

Just talked to an AV installer buddy who told me their wholesale price on the 65" VT50 is $2465 + shipping. Makes me feel good about the $2499 I sent Pauls. BB would mean tax and a lot of my time haggling over change.

Not the whole story though. Manufactuer's regularly offer incentives to retailers to move product, especially towards the end of its run.

As I'm sure many here know, Best Buy is changing their price matching March 3rd.

Starting March 3, 2013 Best Buy will price match the current pre-tax price for new, identical, immediately available products from local retail competitors and select designated major online retailers at the time of purchase only. (No subsequent price matching of competitors is allowed)

Here is the full list of online competitors that are included in the price-matching guarantee:

Amazon.com
Apple.com
Bhphotovideo.com
Buy.com
Crutchfield.com
Dell.com
Frys.com
hhgregg.com
HP.com
HomeDepot.com
Lowes.com
Newegg.com
OfficeDepot.com
OfficeMax.com
Sears.com
Staples.com
Target.com
TigerDirect.com
Walmart.com

I've never price matched before and am looking to get a VT50 today or tomorrow. Do you bring a print out? Just pull it up on your phone? Want to make sure I get a good price before they change the terms of their price matching.

I've always been able to get away with just saying "hey it's this price here" but I usually have the print out handy just in case.

I don't get why BB is doing this, they think they are losing money now? Well just wait until they implement this everyone will come to look at the tv's and then go else where to buy. Bad move on BB's part.

For buytvtoday.com, I took the printout clearly showing the price and saying "panny authorised dealer", they were highlighted too. It still is a risky proposition as buytvtoday is a shady website, asking customers to wire money. One look at the website an an intelligent manger can spot it and deny PM. As usaul YMMV

Most people asking for the BTV price would not walk if they were told no. All things being equal(tax & price), I don't see why someone would prefer to make a purchase like this on Amazon. This is especially true if you want to take it home immediately.
Thanks. It looks like my local Best Buy doesn't have it in stock. Is it possible to get the price match online and shipped? I'm guessing that would be more difficult.

Really? Why would you not buy from B.B. if it's in stock and you don't have to jump through hoops, then beg and plead for a price match like many people have to do. Believe me, I was never of a fan of B.B. due to their pricing. But now add the no hassle pm., ability to see and touch it, their rewards program but most of all there extremely generous return policy and to me it's a no brainer.
Ymmv but that's just my 2 cents.
