I wish you the best of luck. Now I have to figure out the warranty, leaning towards the BB, Panny 3D glasses, and a Sanus mount.

I think generally the vote for best 3d glasses goes to the Panasonic VIERA TY-ER3D4MU ...I picked up 2 pairs on amazon for 56 each but seems they are sold out now? I know a while back there was a crazy sale at sears for 30 each, and sometimes there has been some sales around 49-50....but most retailers charging 79 right now including bby and pauls (out of stock)....

possibly the new ones are to be released soon with the new tvs?

regarding warranty im in the same boat...i got the tv for the btv PM 2299, but dropped a big chunk of change on the 5 year bby warranty for 519....i know i can cancel whenever and get prorated refund, and i have a little less than 30 days to be eligible to pickup the square trade for 99 (3 years)....i guess i got the tv for such a great price, i dont feel so bad paying big bucks for the best warranty / protection plan on the market...its good to know if i ever find dead pixels or image quality issues in general...buzzing sounds or broken optical port...whatever the case is my understanding bby is the easiest to deal with and they will replace the tv if it cannot be repaired.....3-4 years from now if you notice a dead pixel is square trade going to help you? plus i watch A LOT of sports and ESPN and i have seen some reports of IR / burn in on the VT series....bby is the only warranty that will cover that...so i dont have to freak out if my kid pauses the video game too long or if a sports game goes into double overtime....peace of mind for me....
Much appreciate your inside. I will pick up a few pairs of the Panny glasses per your opinion. Glad to know that you went with the 5yr warranty. I will most likely do the same. I too watch a lot of ESPN and do quite of video games, so knowing that they cover burn-in is a major factor.

Has anyone ever done business with buytvtoday? Mixed reviews here, with suspicious dates on most of the reviews (all the same)

Not what I'd call a glowing recommendation.

If you look at the terms on the Costco website where the terms are square trade terms are explained, it simply implies if you purchase the ST warranty, Costco will add the 2 year to the manufacturer warranty.

Here is a statement reinforcing the terms they are describing:
"Costco members may also purchase a SquareTrade Service plan to cover a new TV purchased outside of Costco from an authorized retailer in the US. Service Plan must be bought within 60 days of purchasing the TV.

Give it up already, You are NOT going to get the 2nd year of warranty coverage that "Costco Concierge Service provides, unless you also buy the TV itself from Costco!

As per.....

As a previous poster stated, I later clicked on the Panasonic link and it states coverage is for 3 years, after manufacturers warranty expires or costco concierge warranty ends.

That is NOT a copy of the actual warranty terms! And you do NOT get the "Costco Concierge" benefits unless you buy the TV from Costco! The Costco Concierge benefits are from Costco only if you buy the TV from Costco, not from Square Trade. Square Trade has nothing at all to do with the Costco Concierge coverage.

Dude, why are you beating a dead horse? This debate was settled 5 days ago. Everybody else has moved on. You should too!
You better learn to count, it was 4 days ago when someone called Costco to verify the terms and was told it had to be bought from Costco get the 1 year of Concierge coverage and reported it here, not 5 days!
4 days, 5 days, the fact is the issue was settled and you still find the need to post about it. MOVE ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I emailed Costco a few days ago to get clarification since their webpage is poorly written and doesn't state that you get only 4 years total anywhere if you bought the TV elsewhere. There's bold blocks and verbage stating 5 years total in several places. Here's their response:

Dear Steven,

If you purchased the TV through Costco.com or our Costco warehouse we match the manufacturer warranty a additional year for our TV's and with the square trade it adds a additional 3 years. Since you purchased your TV through a different company the square trade warranty only adds a additional 3 years to the manufacturers warranty. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Thank you for your patience and have a wonderful day.

Thank you,

For those that bought the square trade warranty. Did you have you have to send a copy of your receipt? They're not asking me to. Also i bought the tv from bb and on the registration page, i stated that. Now when i look at the warranty, it shows costco and not bb. Should i call them?

I would email them, and keep the emails. Never hurts to be prepared in case they challenge you for some reason. That said, I have never heard any horror stories about ST. I understand they are pretty easy to deal with.

I'm in the same boat. I think sending the receipt is optional, but it's a good idea; they'll have a copy so if you ever need to use the warranty, you won't need to hunt for the receipt. My SquareTrade warranty page shows that I already sent a receipt. I didn't. It also shows that I bought the TV at Costco, but like you, I bought it at Best Buy and said so when registering. I'm not impressed. I've called ST and left a message three times now with a CSR that I spoke to weeks ago and she hasn't returned my calls yet. Even less impressed. I'm going to call again and speak to any CSR. If I don't get complete resolution to these issues, I'm going to request a refund of my money.

Let us know how it goes with you.

I had the same situation as you all, got a Squaretrade Costco warranty for a Best Buy-purchased TV, and saw the same info as you on my warranty detail.

Here's the email I sent to them:
Quote:
I recently purchased a Costco TV service plan for TVs < $1000, for a TV purchased from Best Buy. When I signed up, I choose Best Buy as the merchant I purchased from, but when I look at the details for the warranty, it says I purchased the TV from Costco.

Do I need to change the "Purchased At:" field to Best Buy? If so, how do I do it?

And here was their response
Quote:
Thank you for contacting SquareTrade.

I see that you have purchased a Costco TV warranty for your television.

The product seller shows Costco on default since the warranty was purchased directly through Costco. It will continue to show Costco but we will honor the warranty for the TV purchased from BestBuy.

Please be advised that the warranty will be a total of 4 years if the TV has been bought from BestBuy. This means our warranty will start after your manufacturer's 1 year warrany expires.

We will also require a copy of the purchase receipt for the TV. This will enable us to attach it to the warranty and it will help you to file a claim in the future.

You can send a scanned copy of the receipt by email to receipts@squaretrade.com. When you compose an email, please mention your Care Plan ID "XXXXXX" in the subject line. Do not put anything else in the subject line other than this number.

You can also send us a fax of the receipt by sending it to 866-939-9098 along with mentioning the Care Plan ID "XXXXXXXX" on top of the receipt.

Was thinking of trying to get Best Buy to match the Buy TV Today price. I wonder if my odds are worse now that none of the stores in my area have them in stock (all showing it will be available in 7-10 days)? Curious if anybody had luck price matching at a Best Buy on Long Island. If you could let me know which store that would be appreciated.
I was at Best Buy last night, just a standard store with no Magnolia. I was trying to get the 65" VT50. Here's what I learned...
  • The 65" VT50 is no longer available online from Best Buy web site. You don't know this until you actually try to checkout, then the message appears.
  • The store I was at could not order the TV, or get one transferred over from another store free of charge. The only way to bring one in from another store was to charge me for the freight.
  • The Magnolia Design Centers are the only ones within Best Buy who can still get the TV and sell it for $2999 with no issue. I called one of the Design Centers and confirmed they could get it, but unfortunately I also confirmed they would charge me the freight cost to get the TV to my local store ($250).
  • The Magnolia Design Center will only price match competitors listed on Panasonic's list of Authorized Retailers.

So after a series of disappointing conversations I have concluded the 65" VT50 is no longer an option, and I'm now looking at the new VT60 models. Seems like the best time to have gotten a VT50 was back in Feb when Paul's TV had it for $2500 and before Best Buy's new price matching policy.

Good luck finding a 65" VT50 for less than $3200.

Please do not pay too much attention to the bestbuy.com site with regard to in-stocks on Magnolia TV's. Most of the inventory is kept in local warehouses, so it may not show as in-stock online. I would recommend stopping in to, or calling, your local stores.

I emailed my local Best Buy with a Magnolia and he got right back to me agreeing to the 2,299. Plus BestBuy just emailed me yesterday a $5 coupon so I'll get it for $2,294!!! LOL

He told me stock is very low right now and I had to act fast and even offered to finalize the deal over the phone. I told him I would come by tonight after work as I preferred to do it in person.

I was able to pick up a VT50 55" for $1459 a few weeks ago.

I guess that amount of coverage is good for $99 but I'll have to give this some thought. There is only a $5 surcharge for not being a Costco member which isn't too bad IMO.

I went ahead and bought the Square Trade warranty from Costco. I bought my 60GT50 with a premium credit card so the 1 year warranty is extended an additional year. So my thoughts are if I have an issue within the first two years I can use the CC extended warranty coverage. Then if I have issue in the third and fourth years I'll have the full $1599 coverage with the Square Trade warranty. Now my plan could be flawed but it seems that it should work. Hopefully I will not have any issues (knock on wood wink.gif) at all but I'm covered if there are.

Since my 30 days was coming up, I decided on the BB protection plan. 4 years for 429.99 + tax. Fairly expensive but I went for the peace of mind factor. It does seem like the money I saved on the TV went back to BB for the warranty. PS- I watched Toy Story 3 DVD on this set yesterday. That was one magnificent picture. I wonder how the BR would look. This is one great TV.wink.gif
