I don't follow. As long as I buy from an authorized dealer, I get the panasonic 1 year warranty. But I plan on keeping this set for many years, so I want extra protection. I know BB does them even for open box, but they are so pricey I'd rather buy new and get a squaretrade warranty for overall the same amount of money. Other than that, I have no idea who might cover open box and for how much, so I asked.

I think you've answered your own question. Wait and buy a 60 series new, get a SquareTrade warranty and you'll be good to go and have peace of mind at the same time...

They are more expensive, but read the fine print. They offer better coverage and terms. Whether or not those are of value to you would be your decision though.

I am loving every minute of this tv, just in time for playoff basketball too! I ended up talking to the store GM about the issues I had with the staff and how they forgot the most essential piece to the tv so I got credited. Final price otd $1389.xx

My only regret was not trying to find a 65" but every person I spoke with said they sold insanely fast.

Does anyone know of a good deal on 3d glasses? I bought the ssg-4100s by Samsung but I'm wondering if the 2013 (5000) model would work also...

I think the model number is 5100GB and they seem to be essentially the same as the 2012 model. I am using the 5100GB with the ST60.

I'm using the 5100GB on a 55VT50. They work.

These are the $19 ones on Amazon (With Prime, probably other versions out there for different $ amounts)

I was totally jealous of this deal. But I think I've almost equaled it. Got an open box 65VT50...$1595 from Best Buy No problems with mine either except my scratches are on the stand, and the hours are a few hundred higher...but still low. It was a customer return and only used as a display for the last 3-4 months or so. All accessories, nothing missing. I didn't get any 3D glasses though, so kinda bummed I have to save more to see the 3D I just paid for.

It was just right place, right time. They literally set it up yesterday, and fully expected it would sell last night. I even had 2 employees see what I was considering who were standing there interested if I decided to pass lol.

I should add in all fairness...CA tax so out the door it was 1748. My TV budget was exactly 1735, so I overpaid by 13 bucks...but still if it works fine with zero issues I think it's a damn steal.

Great find and price for the 65"! $20 Samsung 3D glasses are cheap and they work.

Best Buy website. I had an issue with them before where I called in about an open box and the guy wouldn't tell me the price. I complained via email, and now all stores in my area have open box prices listed suddenly. When I saw that last night it said "add to cart to check price" I was curious. They had told me 2300 or so over the phone for a 65VT50 in "excellent" condition a week earlier. But my jaw hit the floor when I saw 1595. They literally just set it up yesterday from another district.

They may be getting several VT50's back now that people see the new models LOL. If you are in the Bay Area and looking for a similar deal...Stockton store has an open box 65VT50 for 1791 also listed in "fair" shape, as mine was. (Mine is better than fair though upon inspection. And they still have the 55VT50 they wouldn't sell me for 1250. New web price? 1167

Yep. Entered my ZIP and it brings up about 10 stores in my district. But hey, It beats calling up each one, and the prices online were always equal or lower than what's listed in store.

Did the same. Within 75 miles or so the only Panasonic plasmas I saw were a couple S60 open boxes and my closest store has the 55" GT50 (new in box I believe since it says "limited quantity" and does not say open box like their other listings). They are asking $1300 for that 55GT50. I wonder if they would go down in price if I went in to negotiate, and I wonder what that optimum price would be for a 55GT50 right now? (wrong thread i know)

Omni, are you planning on getting an extended warranty?

It's open box, so besides squaretrade, there's no warranty to get as far as I know...Since BB is an authorized Panasonic retailer you DO still get 1 year manufacturer's warranty coverage from the day you buy it. Just gonna have to cross my fingers on this one.

BBY warranty plans will cover OB.

Yea them too, but the price is so damn high I never even considered them. But you're right.

They wanted 200 for 2 years, and one of those years is covered by manufacturer anyways.

If it were me, I'd go with the ST60.... and I own a VT50 myself.

At that price, ST60. 60 inch. BB was clearancing all the displays in the area near me, and their 55VT50's were going for 1250-1300. That is a fair price for a used one. For 1499 the 60ST60 is the clear choice.

Got my vt50 55" for 1299 plus tax at best buy. These are the going prices of oben box ones in dallas/fort worth right now but there are less than 2-3 left but I was looking last week and saw some, was trying to pick a 65" for my dad.

Best buy in corona, ca has a display 60gt50 for $1325 plus an additional 10%. You'll be looking shy of $1200 plus tax.

I'll have a 65VT50 for sale in about 3 weeks as I have ordered a 65ZT60 -- which is stupid if I stop and think about it -- so I won't. Bought 12/2012 from Magnolia Burbank. Lightly used (really) in a smoke free environment.
