Background rumble from sub.

Is there anything diagnosable for causing action scenes and such to just be very constantly rumbly. I am using a lilmike cinema f-20 in a 1400cuft room.

It seems to somewhat lack something until I turn it up ~5db above reference. However at that level it gets very sloppy.
Is that just a source material problem?
Is there something I can do with my room?
Do I simply not know what LFE is suppose to be like?
Is a single f-20 not enough?

I was thinking bass traps but then found out they don't really function down low. I seem to have some ringing in waterfall charts well past a second around 15-30hz. Could this be the cause?

What crossover setting sub and main?
How high do you have the gain up on the sub and AVR sub out?
What size room/s (Open to other rooms)?
Did you level match the outputs of the mains and sub?

Crossover is 80hz.
The gain on the amp for the sub is the first dash on a BASH300, 45degrees above minimum or so.
The room is about 1400cuft and it can have a closed door so not open to other rooms.
The sub and the mains are level matched.

Are you talking about the F-20 package that comes with the 450 sub?
You're overdriving the sub and expecting way too much from this sub. (28-120Hz +/-3dB). Forget 15hz lol and I doubt very much you're getting much below 30hz.

This is a common theme, folks expecting too much from a weak sub. Play it within it's limits and keep your expectations realistic and it will be fine.

Two choices, live within the limits of the sub or consider buying a better sub.

I often get frustrated with the mix of a movie not being what I want it to be. However with some listening you should be able to find some bass effects that sound nice and tight without excessive rumble.

Now, It sounds like your a bit of a bass head, which is OK b/c I can help!

You sound like you enjoy a bit of a house curve which elevates the lower octaves of bass. Lookup house curve. Now the problem sounds like is that one F-20 might not be enough to satisfy your affinity for bass, certainly not +5db over reference. That takes some serious power and displacement! 3db is double the output so your asking one F-20 to output 266% of reference with one 15" and 300W(rated)........ Not gonna happen.

Double up for 3-6db gain from coupling and doubling displacement and power and you'll be close to what your asking......

Try reversing polarity at the sub and see if it sounds better.

Alright, well I am happy with what I have now if it's correct. I want to run that for at least a couple months .
