My plasma days are coming to an end :( - Page 3

My Samsung LCD is 5 years old, and it's more reflective than my new ST50. For an LCD it has a good picture, but all my plasma hating days are over with this new ST50 line.

In the space of three years, I've transitioned from an HD RPTV to a (used) Pioneer Plasma, and then to a Passive 3-D LED. They all had their place and time, but the Passive 3-D display is what's happenin' now. Especially in a brighter room.

And frankly, if I watched stuff in a batcave these days, I would eschew plasma in favor of Projection 3-D. Yes -- it's here, it works, it's bright, it's affordable.....

So the passive 3D LED is happenin', huh? It's hip and that's why he should buy one?

Passive 3D is better. I had to do without though since the rest of it just wasn't as good as the one I purchased.

LCDs are pretty great at maintaining high brightness in bright rooms and rejecting certain kinds of ambient really well. Newer plasmas do pretty well with ambient however. They fall short in absolute brightness. But in raw reflectivity, I don't believe there is any display on the market worse than current Samsung LCDs, which are very closely akin to mirrors.

Interesting? I thought Samsung's were supposed to be good at LCDs

I am not commenting on the quality of Samsung LCDs. I am commenting on their reflectivity. The finish of them is very reflective and has been since at least last year.

I think their older ones looked better than the current ones, which are extremely reflective and they all appear to be edge lit now (which they market as superior, but in reality edge lit sucks). Do they even make a back-lit local-dimming LCD or LED LCD anymore?

5 years at least. As I stated above, my 4671 is extremely reflective. But, having a reflective panel is good for the picture if room light is controlled.

To further my vocabulary, I checked the dictionary:

"hip" = familiar with or informed about the latest ideas, styles, developments

...so....Yeah, I think you nailed it.

Agreed, but if I had a choice to pick deep blacks over gr8 whites, I'll choose the deep black levels every time. It would be nice to have the best of both, maybe Super OLEDs will get 'er done.

Oh yes you are, and you just proved it by posting the same statements over at HDJ under username bigmac and i quote:

"There is no telling what kind of issues the st50 will present. looking at both, I can not see any improvement over 2011 models. It is just not there."

That is pretty much the same as what you posted earlier in this thread:

I am not discrediting Panasonic .

Yes you are. Pretty much all of your posts here and over at HDJ as well as HDF are anti-Panasonic. Your post history makes that pretty clear.

As far as not being a good judge of PQ, You , Sir, are dead wrong.

Then why do you keep insisting that the 2012s don't look any better than the 2011s when everyone else knows that they do? More proof that you're only on these forums to bash Panasonic.
