LG PA70G LED 1280x800 700 Lumens. - Page 42

in the HS201 thread people are reporting the green led died after 21/2-3 years, but hopefully the leds will last at least 5 years in the PA70G, by that time people will be looking to upgrade anyway.

That was exactly my thought process when choosing the PA70G. It was low cost + LED vs. higher quality picture, but the downsides of current affordable LED PJs (i.e. lower lumen, cheap lenses and 720p) required the cost to be quite low to make it worth it to me. At the $400 I paid Fry's I have absolutely no buyer's remorse, it was a total steal. But at the $650 that Amazon wanted it was too close to the $699 the Viewsonic PRO8200 was selling for which beats the PA70G handily in most areas except LED convenience. I was THIS close to pulling the trigger on the PRO8200 but when Fry's lowered the price to $399 again I was sold. I must say that the instant on/off nature of this thing is quite intoxicating. It comes on quicker than my LCD TV and turns off literally instantly, no whirring fan for 5-10 minutes afterwards. I can turn it on and off repeatedly in quick succession without having to worry about the lamp, or can walk away from the running unit for extended periods without having to agonize over "wasted" lamp hours. Besides, unless you have another reference picture right next to it the eye quickly adapts and accepts the quality as good enough. I just finished watching the first two seasons of Falling Skies on Amazon Instant in HD, and the picture was simply superb. Taken on its own and letting yourself be immersed in the large picture makes you quickly forget all the bickering on this forum and you just enjoy the great picture to be had for such a ridiculously low price

tataniko, just give it a rest already! I speak four languages plus one dialect myself, English isn't my native tongue. I have lived on three continents and experienced quite a few cultures and the same goes for my wife. But none of that is relevant when talking about the LG PA70G, so when I come here I stick to the topic and do so in English and don't consider myself oppressed for doing so. The PA70G contributions you have provided have at times been actually useful to people, so thanks for that. The rest of your quasi existential diatribes, translated into occasionally comical but otherwise mostly tedious English have been less so. It's bad enough that these threads grow to dozens of pages for popular products and the forum search tools are generally crap for more sophisticated searches, please let's not add to the tedium with large irrelevant posts.

That is where you are wrong I too owned the sharp 1200mkll for about 5 minutes. I admit I am using a Uh480
scope setup but your statement is just plain false that the floor gets wiped. 133" screen I am talking
about not some 60 or 100 screen. I sell the vivitek 5085 and it does not wipe the floor with the Q5 side by side. Keep
telling yourself that the difference is that great in the end it's only Video!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and we are flipping coins.

The main problem is no forward step here:

tataniko got 3D 720p in VGA but not in HDMI,
Honzik1 accessed service menu, but not tweaked,
Pawel started lens and 75C conversion, but stopped,
Bony dissembled, but not fully.

Thanks for them and others, but more help need. We must do service menu tweaking, good tutorial for lens fixing, firmware hack for 3D 720p HDMI, lens and 75C unit conversion and full disassembled pictures. All project stopped at the moment.

In my experience from when I was first learning English it's best to try to not be too ambitious with your sentences. Keep them short and simple, one thought per sentence. That also works best with Google Translate and similar services, they do a lot better with short sentences with simple grammar. Write the text in your native language like you're writing to a six year old, that will translate the best.

Anyone expecting a new under 3k led from LG at CES this year?

LOL, how exactly is speculation about future products on topic for this thread? Honestly though, for me at least the addition of 1080p and a better lens with a zoom would make this unit just about perfect. Of course, WiDi or similar wireless support would be nice but not critical since we will always have to run power to the projector anyway. They could also add in WiFi for a couple of bucks along with DLNA support. Actually, an even cheaper alternative for them would be to just support a WiFi dongle and add in the necessary streaming software, since the firmware appears to be Linux based. In fact this may even be hackable by the community if someone obtained a dump of the ROM. Perhaps we could get the Cyanogenmod folks interested in the PA70G

Well that's a bummer, let's hope the newer LED's in the PA70G have a bit more life in them.

No reason to get upset here, your defensive reply speaks volumes as to your reasoning and it is obvious to me that you are convincing yourself that what you own is better than other units based upon your own personal preferences. Now this is certainly your right to do so and we all have a right to our own opinion but when you post something like one of these inexpensive LED units besting high performace home theater projectors you should expect some feedback. I have been doing front projection for about 12 years and have seen well over 100 different projectors of various tech and owned over a dozen myself (across all the various techs). I am not 'telling myself' anything and I am not one to use purchase justification in my opinions, if you knew my post history you would know that I am very honest and always call it as I see it (no smoke no mirrors).

Owning a 12k mkII for 5 minutes hardly gives you an actual representation of what it can do, unless of course it was properly set-up and calibrated in an ideal room in those 5 minutes. I have done just that (owned one for over 2 years) and can say with 100% honesty that none of these 1280x800 LED projectors would compete other than calibrated lumen output (which is very low on the 12K mkII and 12s4).

Now with that said it is certainly possible that the anamorphic lens you are using is somehow altering the Q5's image in a way that just happens to please your personal preference. This is great and I am certainly not implying that you should not be enjoying your Q5 but this also does not make the Q5 better than an RS2 just because that happens to be your preference (and I am not a huge fan of JVC projectors so not defending them at all, again just being honest).

Here's a slightly different POV. I also own the Sharp 1200mkll (though I haven't used it in awhile since it's been in need of a new $400+ bulb). I totally agree that the Sharp has a superior cinematic picture quality to the PA70g. HOWEVER, the fact that I have to feed it $400+ per year in new bulbs, the thing's louder than a Hoover AND that the LG is more portable, brighter and versatile projector has me using the LG in place of the Sharp anyway.

Kind of like when CD's replaced vinyl. Yes the sound quality wasn't as rich, but doing without all the crackles, dust cleaning, portability etc in most cases made digital music the preferred technology. Again, even though it was a step down in absolute sound quality.

However with the advances of LED technology, the writing's on the wall for older bulb technology. Just like audiophiles cling to vinyl still, Videophiles will cling to the bulb technology for years to come for the absolute best quality as a hobby - but long after most people have moved on to a more practical technology.

Which HDMI to VGA converter did you use? Since it works on all of the other projectors, I'm suprised that you were not successful.

You did use one that HDMI 1.3 compliant and that strips HDCP right? Like the one I linked.

I did a display scan on the ps3 and it detected the viewsonic vp3d1 which enables the 3D option in the PS3.

when i pop in a 3D bluray the projector displays a blue screen with.the message stating invalid format.

I think since the converter box that i picked up doesnt have an adjustable output selection, it didnt allow me to adjust the resolution.

For the speculation part, LG has released the the LGPA75K which is this model of the projector with an ATSC tuner, and a 15,000 contrast ratio, however it remains 1200 x 800 720p with 700 lumens, and is 6x times the price of the Fry's special.

I've seen a few AVS members mod their LGPA70gs with tv tuners via soldering, should be no big deal, I have no idea if the lens issue plagues these 75ks.

It uses North-American refresh rates and electrical frequencies, just like the rest of South-Korea.

I know one poster talked about possibly soldering in a tuner. But I have yet to see any comfirmation of a poster soldering in a tuner, let alone getting it to work.

I am financially challenged now since I am still trying to get my car fixed.
But at this point in time the LG PA70G offers the best " Total " affordable package on the market as far as DLP LED projectors go.
Hopefully the waiting will be blessing since a new round of new projectors will be coming out next year.
That $ 699 for a LG PA70 G at amazon ? I would wait for FRYS to offer another sale again at $ 399.
