ups dropped mine off friday, have not yet noticed any focus issue, but ive only shot it at wall, mine was manufactured jan 2013. picked up a "inland proHT" 100" screen from microcenter for $65 that i will try asap

dumb question, is it 120hz when displaying 720p?

i feel like i can really tell the difference between 720(this pj) and 1080p(on my LCD tvs) when playing xbox. movies, not so much

120Hz is only supported on 1024x768. 120Hz gives me a lot less RBE, but I'd rather keep it at 1280x800@60Hz

Here are several shots from my Cell phone. The first three are of the LG,,,, The last two are of the Sanyo PLC-Xu30. I have included my skylight with a screen over it in the shots to show that it was done during the day. This was shot on 2/24/2013 at around 2:00 PM. The camera auto adjusts for the light in the room so the LG looks almost as bright in these shots but in real life the room has the exact same ambeint light so try and imagine how bright the sanyo would be if the camera didn't reduce the light. Use the side windows as a reference point. The sanyo with the UHP lamp is much brighter and clearer but for what the LG does and the NEVER replace a lamp option its quite a little marvel. Also,,, I have not seen ANY RBE yet. The white on the setup screen thats in the middle of the shots is much whiter with the sanyo. The LG produces more of a duller pinkish tint white screen. The overall effect on this screen size thats around 100 inches is the LG looks like its a balmy day. The smaller it gets the brighter it looks but the LG doesn't do whites like the UHP based lamp. I Have to admit that I am spoiled and usually watch sports and liketype programming during the day like you are seeing it here so I need a bright projector. The Sanyo image Pops. The LG looks GREAT but I am used to a much brighter picture. If I were to use a projector as a TV The LG would be a no brainer at this low of a price point. If I had Kids the LG would also be my choice since leaving it on or using it for games would take the lamp replacement worry out of the equasion

has anyone used this screen? it only comes in 80 inches but it looks like a cheap alternative to the DIAMOND BLACK by SI, talking about the Sony VPS-80DS 80-Inch DynaClear Home Theater Screen

I have one of these that i bought on amazon a couple of years ago for $120 shipped. the downside is that it is only 80 inches but it does do a good job in ambient light. I definitely would recommend it. My pa70g has a very acceptable image even with the lights on so i dont really use it anymore being that my image is about 100 inches now.

Eventhough isn't fair comparison because sanyo is rated at 1400 ansi lumens, whereas PA70G has 700 ansi lumens only, the projected images is I think more comparable, and with no lamp replacement with LG, its a true marvel, IMO.

My unit accepts 1280x720p @ 120hz via direct HDMI or VGA, not sure why some of you can only send 1024x768. confused.gif

searched it a little, sounds like some people have made it d 720p @ 120hz by forcing it from a pc, not really going to help me much frown.gif as i mostly use my xbox 360 for entertainment

How does it work? Im also using a PC and would like to know how to make it work in 720p@120hz. Can you link me where you have found it. In this forum i cant find any. The inf files posted here didnt work for me.

Right out of the box I could send 1024x768, 1280x720 and 1280x768 at 120Hz with no tweaking (no additional monitor INF files needed).

However my PA70G does not appear to scale 120Hz resolutions properly so when sending 720p@120Hz you're not likely to maintain proper aspect ratio (with the PA70G set to 16:9).

Some custom timings would need to be set up in order to do 720p@120Hz while maintaining proper aspect ratio.

I have not had any reason to use Powerstrip in years but may look into it eventually if I have the time.

* NOTE: I am using an AMD video card (Radeon 6970) so not sure if those using Nvidia (or built in Intel) will have similar results.

well thats not very covienent, hopefully LG will make an updated firmware available for download that will make it display 720p @ 120hz by default when you connect a blue ray or smart tv box or video game system

right now im kind of waiting till i can get my screen up to pass final judgment on this thing if it goes back or not

120 Hz on the LG is only of use with a PC (or Scaler that can do it).

* The LG does do 5:5 (120Hz) when sent 1080p/24 if you enable the Real Cinema mode.

Problem is while you see a smoother (motion) image the 1080p to 720p scaling is so-so and there is the trade-off.

OMG i got it to work AND it is absolutely sharp now Oo !!!! Im very excited about the picture quality and sharpness now. It seems when i send the custom resolutions thru HDMI it not got converted thru the chip correctly. But now i used a custom inf file for HDMI EDID Override and now i can send 1280x720p@120hz and it is not only sharp now its also as fluent as when i sent 1024x768p@120hz thru it.

I take all back my PA70G is good now. No more sharpness issues anymore its only about the correct setup which is not that easy but its worth it. Im very happy now. The picture is crystal clear and fast action in movies is perfect and not eyestraining or something. 24hz/24p didnt work anyway so 120hz is way better for me.

It was a bit tricky but here is what ive done:

1. overinstall the HDMI inf file for 1280x720p@120hz as described in this thread.
2. restart pc, plug in plug out projector.
3. create custom resolution settings in nvidia advanced settings. right click desktop - resolution - advanced - select intel graphics control panel - propertys - advanced mode - create custom resolution (use here 1280x720p@120hz and add it)
4. now close all windows or even unplug / restart if needed. then select 1280x720p@120hz in the nvidia system control - voila!

wtf? well im confused now. i thought when i turn up the "reelmotion120" or whatever its called on my lcd tv, then whatever im watching gets all smooth and "soap opra effect" that just means it was taking advantage of the 120hz. now i guess i dont really understand whats going on lol

i guess that makes sense, because for it to change refresh rate id think i would see the screen shut off and come back on like computers do when you do it

What you are confused on is 120hz source versus 120hz display.

We are discussing actually sending a 120hz signal to the PA70G and not just the fact that it is a 120hz display.

So while most sources will send 24/30/50/60hz the PA70G can also accept a 120hz source (via pc or scaler) and it does not have to be 3D, 2D at 120hz is ultra smooth.

There are no consumer level HDtv's, that I am aware of, that can accept and properly process a 120hz signal via any input even if the panel is 120/240hz.

There are PC monitors that can accept a 120hz signal and most of those are 3D capable.

Once 120hz is implemented properly it is about the smoothest image you will see.

So now you realized, that PA70G isn't waste of money. Congratulations........
I felt the same way as you did when my first led pj (not Pa70g) has that issue. But when I start using my htpc, with a Powerdvd 12 player I was blown away with the big picture improvements, such as sharpness, overall contrast, brightness, and what I love the most is how the colors pop. Meaning you have to tweak something and feed that PJ with a good video source to maximize the capability of this machine.

PS: I read some google results about "120 Hz" and "soap opera effect" and I still don't get it. In the results FI (frame interpolation) appeared. Haha, don't waste more time, maybe I'm slow today

I put a block on him, he has been told this so many times, about triple posting like that, and he doesn't care, he posts usually 3 posts in 10mins, not bothering to just edit his post, like most of us do. Block him.
He seems like a nice enough guy, it's easy enough to correct, if he wanted to. We all had to learn to edit. We all got blasted for that behavior at one time or another. It's usually in the guidelines about triple posting. And trust me, he knows what he is doing, and doesn't seem to care. rolleyes.gif
