Yes you missed the fact that there is a big difference between 1280x800 and 1280x720 on the PA70G. If you use 1280x800 you only get a sharp picture when using it in full 16:10 mode. While 1280x720 lets you use the 16:9 mode with a sharp image result. You need the custom inf file for 1280x720 res for correct 16:9 output otherwise it will result in the same issue i was complaining at. Lower sharpness, more neon colours and an overall more dull image.

edit: Without the Inf file i could only use proper 1280x720 together with 50hz. Higher than 50hz resulted in an 16:10 degration. For example setting the nvidia controls to 1280x720@60hz ended up in 1280x800@60hz when pressing the middle button of the remote. This problem occured for every resolution with 16:9 aspect ratio. Im on an ivy bridge notebook with intel hd4000 / nvidia gt650m graphic cards. Running 306.2 modified beta drivers.

if i am able to make a custom res in the nvidia settings for 1280x800 120hz , i should have no issue making a custom res of 1280x720 120hz i would think, correct? is the custom inf file only if it it will not allow me to make the 720p 120hz setting my self?

also i thought setting it to native res (1280x800) @ 120hz would give me the best results, i will try 720 when i get home

The default 'Auto' timings with custom 1280x720p@120hz do not work properly on the PA70G (at least not on my unit with an Nvidia GTX680). I have not tried Rugrash's PLED-W500 monitor.inf file as I do not use HDMI at 120hz (Denon AVR will not pass it).

1280x800@120hz works properly when set to FULL but obviously that is 16:10 (which is the closest to the native resolution of the DMD panel and does result in the sharpest possible image).

When you send 1280x720p@120hz you'll want to use 16:9 or Just Scan (if it is available) and see if it scales to the proper aspect ratio.

I couldnt make a custom 720p resolution setting work without the inf file higher than with 50hz. The only 120hz setting that take effect is 1024x768 out of the box over HDMI (never tried VGA).
Always i tried to set it to such a custom resolution setting it just resets to the previous setting.

Yes the native res does give the best result but only if you set the format to Full which is 16:10. Movies and TV are normally in the 16:9 ratio so the native res will give you a stretched image. Someone has written that the native res of this special DMD chip is not 1280x800 in fact but 1140 x 912 which was Pawel if i remember correct. Anyway compressing the native res to 16:9 with the inbuilt scaling software of the PA70G when you send 16:10 source signals to it such as 1280x800 results for me at least in a degration in sharpness and overall quality.

Watching movies in 3D, with 1024x768/120Hz, but the teeth, could be viewed on a PC, set the resolution to 1280x800, and have changed the image display parameters, vertical and horizontal sharpness of 100, gamma 1.9, theoretically all to highlight the shaded areas in the image, after the surgery, he switched to 1024x768/120Hz and since then the picture is surprisingly good despite the low resolution smile.gif. In fact, setting the appropriate aspect ratio, it is not easy but whilst taking advantage of the stereoscopic player, I set custom aspect ratios such help and time, change the 4:5 aspect sometimes smile.gif 16:11, depending on the resolution of the video. biggrin.gif

You can buy any universal projector mount which can be adjusted for any female thread spacing. Usually you have many types of screws in package for a lot of projector brands.

I have been trying to compile a list of all the things people need to know about getting 3d working with this projector (this thread is kind of a mess). We really need a tutorial/wiki with the following information....

1.) Glasses - I vaguely recall seeing a couple people post links to glasses that worked. This is a big deal, as there are a lot of options out there, and its hard to know which glasses will/wont work. If you have purchased a pair that you can confirm works with this projector, please post a link.

2.) Cables - It seems like there is NO WAY to get 3d working over hdmi (can anyone confirm?). So we need to buy a special hdmi -> VGA cable and use the VGA port on the projector?

3.) Video cards - I imagine most people will be using their computers to play the movies, so we could really use a detailed step by step guide for exactly what needs to be done (special drivers, custom config files, etc...). I have a ATI Radeon 6900, and most of the suggestions in this thread are for NVIDIA hardware, so I am a bit lost here

* Might be nice to have a special section here for any people trying to use 3d blueray players, PS3's etc...

4.) Assuming youre using your PC to play movies, which player are you using? I'm pretty sure plain old free VLC can play most 3d movies?

These are the 4 biggest questions I can think of, if you have more post them here.

Basic answers...

(yes this thread is a mess due to all the poor quality translation software but all of the info needed is contained within this thread in proper english).

1) Any DLP Link Active 120Hz glasses should work with the LG. The Sainsonic glasses are confirmed as working. IR/BT/RF glasses do not work.

2) 3D can work over HDMI and VGA you just cannot pass 120Hz via HDMI through most 3D capable AVR's (a direct connection is required... PC -> PA70G).

3) Both Nvidia (3D vision/stereo driver enabled) and AMD 6000/7000 series cards will work by using a custom monitor .inf file (AMD requires TriDef/Stereoscopic player).

* 3D via blu ray players and consoles does not work with the PA70G

4) Any 3D capable software player should work via PC (not VLC). Players like PowerDVD, WinDVD, Stereoscopic player,TriDef, 3Dtv play, etc.

I went ahead and opened my projector and changed the position of the little focus gear so that I could move the focus a little farther and that made a pretty big difference. The problem is that I bumped into the limit where the screw on the lens body bumps into the end of the slot that it slides in and still feel like it is not quite as sharp as it could be (but it is really close...would like to be able to go past the sweet spot and see it start to get unfocused again). Is there any way to go farther with this, or is that a safety limit to prevent damaging the lens? I did not play with it much after adjusting the gear position because it already made a big improvement (as did switching from component->VGA to HDMI), but I still feel like it could be better if the focus dial could travel just a little farther. I feel like the focus is pretty even, so I have not tried those other two screws that have been mentioned...is that something that could help change my focal range a little bit?

Even if I can't get any more sharpness, I am happy with this projector. It throws a pretty nice image when coming from a good source and even did pretty well with a DVD the other night. Still need to calibrate it, but overall it's great for the price/longevity. Even looks pretty good in daylight for kids shows and sports and such.

Thanks for the info. So I think i'm gonna order a pair of those sainsonic glasses (and a hdmi switch so I can bypass my avr and just run one single hdmi cable to my ceiling). My only question now is with my video card (ATI Radeon 6900). Are you sure there is no way to get this thing to output a 120hz signal without a special 'tridef player' (whatever that is)? That doesn't sound right... what if I just wanted to do 120hz gaming, there must be some way to get a Radeon 6900 to output 120hz... Anyone out there know how?

*on a side note the AVR I am thinking of is a Denon 1713, will that allow 120hz 3d over hdmi?

I found this pdf regarding the Radeon 6900. Seems to indicate 120hz 3d IS possible with this card (no mention of extra hardware needed). Can anyone confirm?

The other lens fixes are mostly for non-uniform focus, going the length that was shown by trimming the lens housing and such may improve things further but you will most likely void your 2 year warranty at that point (as well as risk dust contamination... dust blobs).

Yes you most certainly can send it 120Hz for 2D, I have a Radeon HD6970 & an Nvidia GTX680oc and they both work at 120Hz, TriDef is for 3D playback (which has to be at 120hz on the PA70G as well). wink.gif

I have a Denon 1712 in my game room and it does not pass 120Hz (which may be possible with an EDID hack but I have not tried it).

You are misunderstanding what I stated.

120Hz has to be active for 3D to work on the PA70G regardless of which brand of video card you use (it sounded like you were asking if you could just use 120hz for 2D, obviously you can).

You may actually need a special hardware device for 3D with Nvidia and not AMD/ATi.

Nvidia requires the emitter dongle or 3Dtv play to enable stereoscopic 3D (unless using the old hack that worked on older drivers) while AMD cards need 3D capable software like TriDef, PowerDVD,etc. (AMD's built in 3D, HD3D, does not work with the PA70G).

I have no idea regarding the Denon 1713, check in the official owners thread (I don't think most AVR's will pass 120hz due to their EDID info, it's not that the hardware is not capable).

The software simply fails all of us regarding the translations and it just makes a mess of things, please think about it carefully before jumping to outlandish conclusions.

Even other people from your own country cannot follow the poorly translated posts and those of us that speak english cannot either... so what purpose does it serve if not a single person can totally understand it ???

I dont understand why people have to use crap translation software at all. English is the easiest language in the world and forgives alot of mistakes cause it is so simple. I mean it is not like russian or chinese where you have like 7-8 cases and hundreds of pronounces and such. It is so easy even children of 6 years learn it in my country just for fun. So how can you people and specially Pawel who is very clever as far as i understood not read a book or do some quick english tutorials and forget about this damn crap translation software that doesnt work anyway? I just dont get it. Everyone should at least speak/write in 2 languages nowadays. And English is not the worst idea for the 2nd or even the 3rd language.

I also doubt it has something to do with nationalism or false proudness thats just stupid. We all are having only a hard time to understand the wrong interpreted translations in this thread.

Sorry for further going this Offtopic way.

Ok so all I need for my Radeon 6900 is a custom inf file (can you link/explain how this is done?), and a 'stereoscopic' SOFTWARE player (I coulda sworn vlc could do this...). But no hardware/dongles needed (for a 6900 at least).

You dont need an inf file for 3d. The inf file is for 1280x720@120hz but not 3d. And yes you need the stereoscopic software player. VLC cant do 3d playback. But test it before you pay 40 $ for the player since 3d is extreme dark with the PA70G and not worth it. Im not using 3d its not enjoyable.

The INF file I used was to allow TriDef to see the PA70G as an Acer 5360 and enable 3D (in other words the software simply does not think there is a 3D capable display connected until you trick it into seeing a different 3D-ready projector).

In my case I was using VGA since I could not pass 120hz through my Denon AVR via HDMI.

I posted a few pages ago about this PJ giving me bad eyestrain. I just wanted to give a little update. I have been running it at 120Hz for a few weeks now (only at 1024x768, haven't been able to get my integrated graphics to do more, but xbmc still looks good so I haven't messed with it too much). It does seem to be easier on my eyes. I still get some strain if I watch a lot or watch it several days in a row, but not as bad as before. Still, I'm a little worried that I'm hurting my eyes so I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Other than that, I still love this PJ and don't want to give it up.

hello guys
i have been lurking on this projector for quiet sometime and finally am taking a plunge
can you please help me on a single issue

as i am getting it shipped to India, can any kind person please check the voltage range on the power brick or the projector

nowadays most electronics work on the full 110-230 volt range ...is that the case with this projector too?...or is it that i would require a step down transformer here in India for this projector
