Software or Hardware De-interlacing?

Nvidia has De-interlacing option which happens to also be the "inverse telecine" check box, I don't know if it works or not, but how is it different from the de-interlacing options in say VLC? Which one should I enable? In VLC there are modes to choose from like Bob or Yadif.

Vector and Motion Adaptive options of Hardware De-interlacing are way better than anything you can get from software. Try some google for "Vector Motion Adaptive" if you want to learn more.

I'm an ATI user and have no idea about Nvidia.

NVIDIA calls it "Spatial-Temporal Deinterlacing", which is really the same as "Vector Adaptive" on ATI. Everyone has to use their own name, of course.
