My receiver broke. Do I have to buy a brand new set or can I just buy any receiver?

My Philips receiver broke recently and I'm wondering if I can simply buy a replacement home theatre receiver from any brand and just hook it up to the speaker cables. If so, besides Ebay, are there any good stores to buy just the receivers from?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Usually those HTIB systems are made to go specifically with the accompanying speakers. Do the speakers have special connectors on them or just bare wire?

What is the impedence (in ohms) for the speakers? Hopefully it will say it on the back. Usually 3, 4, 6 or 8 ohms. If not, what is the model number of your system? Maybe we can look it up to find out the specs.

This is one of drawbacks of all in one HTIB systems. If something breaks you may have to replace the whole setup.

How were your speakers connected to the receiver in the first place? Wired, banana plug? If you want to keep your speakers, then research for a receiver that can take the connectors or see if you can modify your speaker wires to fit the new connectors. And follow Afro GTs advice and confirm your speaker impedence.
