Your post made me look on the second page to check for screenshots from the new version, thinking they would be lousy picture quality, and boy was I in for a surprise. Totally ruined my morning too.
Pre-order is up at AZ for only $10.49. At first the low price made me immediately think of T2 Skynet Edition, but then I realize that they have more than made their money on this film, so maybe they're just being nice to us?
Also according to HDDN, the Awnuld commentary is still there plus two new featurettes:
-Interview with Director Paul Verhoeven
-Restoration Comparison – a look at high-definition transfer from original film negative
Can the brethren here make a pact concerning the video presentation of this release?—It would be nice not to throw stones if Paul decides to radically alter the color palette, if the contrast is boosted to clipped whites, and some minor black crush—I know what you're thinking of course we're going to complain about those things, but an optimum presentation of this catalog title is holy grail for me.
The late Michael Jackson said This is It and this presentation is the end all be all for this title for the foreseeable future. If its an abomination I'll but leading the bitching with tears in my eyes!

The discs we already have are crap, so that is what I am going in expecting so I can be pleasantly surprised if it is decent.

I'm not afraid of any drastic color changes. How much can the color palette be altered for a movie like this. Slathering blue on everything isn't going to look good in a mars movie.
The earth bound portion of the film could be revised with a blue filter instead of the gross (warm spectrum) green tones that made the picture visibly dull and dated on its debut.
I said the cinematographer hated the release prints—mainly due to the lack of vibrant saturation overall. Paul said he (the cinematographer) prefers cooler tones.
I'm holding out for the "You've Got What You Want Cohagen, Give These People Air!" Collector's Edition that puts the WB boxsets of Gone With The Wind, The Wizard of Oz, and Casablanca to shame.

Clearly (in light of recent events) it should be the 'Consider dat a divorce' edition. Checked with Studiocanal in the UK and apparently we are also getting the director-approved transfer.
