Well this is both reassuring and mildly disappointing. I was worried I had a bum TV, however if the dim corners is normal, not much I can do about it by swapping out the TV. I can tell the corners are darker with most bright content on pretty much all panel settings. It isn't enough to affect most viewing, but enough to notice.

Well to be honest I'd rather them be dark than light. I think the EH5000 is very even for a LED screen ( well mine is anyway )

Here is a image for those worried about backlight corners etc. Mine here is with 100% backlight and 100% brightness it's very even in the flesh for a LED TV

Yeah, turns out it was just the default setting on my cable box that was only sending 720p to the TV. I can't explain why my other cable box didn't send 1080 either (since I know it sends 1080i to my Pan) or why my Roku bombs out at 1080 resolution, but those appear to be issues for another day.

I kinda wish I had known about this when I tested my Panasonic 32E5 and LG 32CS560, as maybe I would have graded them differently (but probably not, since I do watch a lot of 720p content, like ESPN.) This is my first non-glossy TV, and I'm still getting used to the "computer monitor" effect of the flatness (I wouldn't call it matte, but as someone else said, it's like a glossy matte - but not glassy like an IPS or a plasma.)

To those that are concerned about the motion blur. I did just complete the update via USB from Samsung and I've got to say I DO notice some good improvements. I mean I know it's a 60hz but there was more lag on this TV than any other 60 I've had before. The fast moving images seemed to "lag" there for just a split second too long. But now it's better, and looks more like a 60hz DLP.

I do have a wierd sound issue with the HDMI and a PS3 hooked up to it though. Put in Tangled bluray, menu sound, trailers, deleted scenes work fine, load up the movie, the sound completely is gone, no sound at all. Sometimes the vocal track of Atelier Meruru is gone, music playing, just no speaking. Anyone have any sound issues with a bluray player or a game system hooked up through HDMI1? Just trying to identify and fix the problem.

I noticed televisioninfo.com has a lot of negative things to say about the 40EH6000 in regards to artifacting. See http://www.televisioninfo.com/content/Samsung-UN40EH6000-LED-LCD-HDTV-Review/Motion.htm. I wonder if a firmware update such as the one released a few weeks ago could actually address these problems. The Samsung firware release notes do say that the new firmware improves picture quality but they don't go into any details.

So I updated my firrmware with out checking that the one I downloaded was from the 'US' website, the TV still displays but now its saying that "mainboard has been changed" when I power up the TV and it also says that it is not detecting any signal from the cable what so ever but its displaying perfectly fine aside from the notice which makes it unusable.. I think my original firmware version was something like 1001. Does anyone know how I can fix this or flash back to my old firmware?

I still would say the motion blur is very bad on this set. I have emailed samsung about it. I don't think they would be bothered to do anything though.


It is a proper shame because other than bad motion handling this set is near perfect for me. Even the built in speakers are very good which is surprising!

do something go to
menu >input>edit name>select game
turn on game mode from menu>setup>general
calibrate as you like but dont touch the advanced options
this actually gave me huge improvement as far as motion blur is concerned
tested thoroughly in online games so think my feeling is pretty accurate
will degrade pic quality a bit

I have been watching the Euro 2012 tournament in stunning HD on the UE46EH5300 here in the UK
The picture quality is amazing and have no sign of motion artifacts or lag. The set recently updated the firmware, a big update that took a few minutes to load. Haven`t got firmware update to hand but is something like 100.1002.

A quick question, I have the EH5300 here in the UK and one thing that has really been bugging be is the fact that it doesn't show Now/Next program when you change the channel on the freeview. The only way to see what is currently on is to press the info button.

Is there a remedy for this? I did not see an obvious solution in the settings.


I am also wondering if there any android apps that are worth having on a table or phone (both ICS),

Are there any cool programs for the PC such as channel manager or some good streaming server

I agree the program guide is pants, certainly in comparison with my old Sony. I have looked through various menus and can`t improve anything. I loved how I could select movies on the EPG guide and they all came up, no similar function on the Sammy? mad.gif

I would definitely download the Samsung Android app, I use it on my old HTC Desire, it really is useful for navigating the screen when on the net, typing is easier too and is a fully functional game and remote control too! Download the Samsung app for your note book or laptop, it allows streaming of files (audio, movies, pictures) direct to the Sammy, excellent piece of software. smile.gif

Does anyone know if the screen display can be turned off while listening to music on the EH5300 (music streaming from a 2.5" HDD)? Maybe I have missed the obvious but cant see how to do it.

One thing I have spotted. The led/backlight seems fine no clouding or nothing like that but when I look to the side or above the tv I see streaks of light going down the screen? Why is this?

Has anyone noticed if the red LED on their set is on during some kind of activity?

I noticed mine is on at times (32EH5000), but I can't figure out exactly when; I just noticed it is on, for a couple of times - and because I haven't quite figured out when it is on, I can't know for sure if it is normal or some faulty behaviour... I just finished watching a movie with the WDTV Live, connected by HDMI, and the LED was on, same for the PS3 (HDMI) in the afternoon - but when I changed to TV input, it was off... Is it normal to be on during HDMI play? I can't quite remember if it has been on all the time I've been using HDMI connected equipment...

Even so, I thought it was supposed to be on only when the set itself is off...

I updated to T-MST10PDEUC-1021.0

In UK this enables the BBC iplayer to work which previously always timed out when downloading. Cant really spot any difference in picture quality yet.

Does the EH5000 have Anynet+ which controls components via the HDMI connection (HDMI-CEC)? Nothing in the manual about it but Crutchfield's site lists it as a feature.... was hoping to control the ps3 with it.

Just because they are versioned differently does this definitely mean these are potentially different panels from different manufacturers? If so, does this mean that any review you read on these models may not apply if the panel version is different than the reviewers. If so, how can you buy this model with any certainty what you get matches your expectations and the comments of previous reviewers? When I play the lottery I always lose.

I'm considering a UN32EH5300FXZA as an upgrade to an LN32A550. Would it be worth the ~$500 or so? I'm looking for vastly lower operating temperatures (the A550 can be a room heater at times) and improved PQ with acceptable motion response times.

If the 5300 is anything like the 5000 then it's not great for motion handling. Although I have read that a lot of 2012 model Samsung led tv's have not so great handling of motion in dark scenes regardless of them being 50/60hz or 200hz.

I dont have any major issues with the motion handling on my panel, Im starting to think there is a panel lottery involved. But if you view a 24fps source on a 60Hz LEDTV with out any motion processing even the most highend TV's will make it look crappy, Im watching this documentary and I had to use a 60fps player to get better motion.
