Will the effect be the same as a normal reset in the normal menu? Or will it change other settings which cannot be accessed by the normal menu?

I'm not sure. I assume it does everyone a user-menu reset does, but in addition resets changes to the service menu settings as well.

Does anyone have an issue with their Samsung UN32EH5300 where the sound seems to be really hollow? I've had the TV for just over 3 months now as it was a gift to my mom. I've tried changing the sound settings but can't seem to make the sound quality similar to what it should sound like. I don't expect TV speakers to have good sound, but the sound quality is really bad.

I'll be going through this thread to see if I can find more information. Should be able to go through all 42 pages..

Just picked up a UN40EH5300 the other day for under $500, I was wondering if anyone who had this set has upgraded to the F5500, I think thats the newer model for this version?

The smart features are nice, the thickness of the tv isnt really an issue, obviously a thinner one gives it a more updated look.

Edge lit F5500 vs direct lit EH5300?

Smart v2.0 ?

I haven't tried fooling around with the home made IR transmitter anymore yet as I haven't had the time. However, I have put in a request to get the FACTORY and 3SPEED functions added to the MyHarmony database for the UN40EH5000F via phone support. They've sent me an email requesting the HEX codes for the commands and I promptly sent them him. Here's hoping they get added. I'll keep you guys updated.

I suggest if you have a different model (or even the same) you call in and do the same - they initially said I would have to go through paid support - but the rep at paid support and her supervisor informed me this should be handled by free support and that they will instruct them to do so - after that, that's when I got the email requesting the HEX codes.

Here are the HEX codes for anyone else who wants to call in and request them for their model:

Function Name: FACTORY

Device Code: 7.7 Function: 59
0000 006D 0000 0022 00AC 00AB 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0689

Function Name: 3SPEED

Device Code: 7.7 Function: 60
0000 006D 0000 0022 00AC 00AB 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0689

The more requests - the more likely they will be added , the more models they will add this too, and more promptly add them to the database.

Even if you have a Harmony and don't care about these functions - help us tinkerers out if you have the time biggrin.gif

EDIT: Holy crap, that was fast! A Logitech technician just called me as he was entering in the HEX codes to the database for me - from the way he worded it - I'm not sure if it's now enabled for all of you who use MyHarmony, or just my account alone. I suggest you log in and see and if not call them up. Now time to test it out biggrin.gif

Well, the buttons works as I can enter the service menu by doing INFO+FACTORY (instead of MUTE+1+8+2+POWER) - but FACTORY+3SPEED doesn't allow me to enter the EXPERT menu :/ I had Logitech resend the HEX code just in case; same result. I also had them edit my remote so that it won't send a signal in 3 bursts; only 1. I have Samsung sending me the latest firmware (1017.1 on USB; cause they don't have it up on their site) - once that arrives maybe I'll start seeing if I can brick it flashing other firmwares :P

Samsung doesn't make it's own 39" panels. So it will use other panels instead.

UN32EH5300F keyboards that work? I just bought a cheapie wireless keyboard and it only partially works. Is there one that does work and does the virtual keyboard also pop up when entering URLs in the crap browser (wish Mozilla would make one for smart TV's). It always pops up with my cheap wireless. Wonder if a straight non-wifi usb keyboard would work better? Or just suffer for the next couple months til I get my computer/tv/studio room set up and the cable in and just run HDMI from my motherboard to the TV. Such important life decisions. rolleyes.gif
post #1240 of 2167
Is it specified to accept a USB keyboard (wired or wireless)? Maybe it is intended to use its own controller pad, or nothing at all. We Humax HDR-FOX owners have never had any success injecting USB keyboard characters into the virtual keyboards, because although there is a Linux kernel running underneath, the code which runs the on-screen operations is working as a self-contained process and doesn't look for standard input streams.

Just signed up to say thanks to everyone here, and especially chicolom, for the helpful info in this thread smile.gif

To pay it forward, here's the basic calibration I arrived at for my UN40EH5300 with HH02 panel, using chicolom's settings as a starting point.

Bolded all changes from the Movie mode defaults:

- Picture Mode: Movie
- Backlight: 20
- Contrast: 95
- Brightness: 44 (technically clipping one level above black, because I find it produces a distracting interference pattern on my panel... use 45 if this isn't an issue for you)
- Sharpness: 0 (anything under 10 looks fine)
- Color: 47 (arrived at using the GetGray Color/Tint pattern + RGB Only Mode set to Blue)
- Tint (G/R): 50/50

Advanced Settings
- Dynamic Contrast: Off
- Black Tone: Off
- Flesh Tone: 0
- Color Space: Auto
- White Balance: default (25 on all)
- Gamma: 0

Picture Options
- Color Tone: Warm1 (Warm2 felt like a bit much, but ymmv)
- Digital Noise Filter: Off
- MPEG Noise Filter: Off
- HDMI Black Level: Low (depends on source)
- LED Motion Plus: Off

Again, this is just a basic calibration I did by eye, as I don't have the proper equipment to tweak colors.

And for what it's worth, if I really look for it, I can just barely detect the blue ghosting on fast motion that some have mentioned as an issue with the Sharp panels, although I never would've noticed had I not read this thread... then again, maybe I just haven't viewed any content that exacerbates it. So far, though, I haven't seen anything nearly as bad as some of the examples posted here.

Calibration settings for EH5300 with Samsung panel

Firmware: 1040

Pictures Settings

Backlight: 20 on all (Eco Sensor on with minimum 9 of backlight recommended).
Contrast: 86 on Standard; 92 on Movie Mode
Brightness: 45 on Standard/PC; 47 on Movie Mode
Sharpness: 50 on "PC mode", 5 on "Movie/Standard"
Color: 50 on "PC mode" (Can't change it on the TV, see the note below), 48 "Movie", and 38 on "Standard" mode
Tint: 50/50 on all

Note about PC mode color: When PC mode is activated you can't change the color saturation value on your TV, instead you have to change it on your graphics card control panel. Due to the nature of the values being different you have to calibrate it by yourself using a blue filter, most of the time the value will be around 35 so if you don't want to calibrate or don't have a blue filter then set it to 35. Be aware that the PC mode is not activated on other than 60hz refresh rate, so if you watch movies at 24hz for example, you'll be out of PC mode and you can change the color on the TV but if you already changed the saturation value on your graphics card control panel then set the mode to standard and the color value on your tv to 50. Sorry for the long explanation, I don't know how to keep it more simple than this and still be easily understandable.

Advanced Settings:

Color Space: Auto on all
White Balance:
  • Standard: R-offset: 25, G-offset: 25, B-offset: 25, R-Gain: 0, G-Gain: 39, B-Gain:49
  • Movie: R-offset: 25, G-offset: 25, B-offset: 25, R-Gain: 0, G-Gain: 39, B-Gain: 49
Gamma: 0 on all
Dynamic Contrast: Off on all
Black Tone: Off on all
Flesh Tone: 0 on all
Motion Lighting: Off on all

Picture Options:

Color Tone: Warm 2 on all.
Size: 16:9 on "PC mode", Screen Fit on all other modes.
Film mode: auto1 for PAL sources, auto2 for NTCS sources, off for digital sources
Digital Noise Filter: Off
HDMI Black Level: Depends on the source. Low is standard TV levels 16-235; Normal is PC levels 0-255.
LED Motion Plus: Off

Latest update: 27-01-2013

Hey since you figured out how to access advance menu i got question.

Remember when we discussed that dynamic dimming option? Even with that disabled i still experienced dimming on dark scene and movie credits apparently this is controlled by CE Dimming and it doesn't seem to be in advance menu. Maybe its in expert mode not sure if you have successfully accessed expert mode yet but of you do can you give heads up if you find this option anywhere ...THanks

And you disabled in on the input that you're watching on right? Like you can't disable it on HDMI 1 and then expect it to be disabled on HDMI 2; you would have to disable it on HDMI 2 as well is what I'm getting at. Other than that - sure, will do. I still have yet to sign up and post over at SamyGO - those guys can probably help me out some.

Hi @all, did someone already tested my calibration settings? I would appreciate some feedback xD

Well, today I hooked up my PS2 to my EH5300 and I get black bars around the image and it's almost two inches off to the left. I tested it either with an standard AV cable and an Component Cable, the result is the same. :'(

yea that doesn't effect dimming on dark screen like credits ..ect still happens apparently this is controlled by CE dimming or maybe dynamic CE but seems to be greyed out

its real easy to test use this wallpaper if you have your PC hooked up use standard for the input not PC.

http://i.imgur.com/PKY23Oj.jpg

Use dynamic or standard preset and you will see the white gets dull. If you hit source button on remote to brings up input screen you will see the XBMC letters get bright again. Once the menu disappears it gets dull. So its still dimming on dark screens

I also notice weird flickering on screen sometimes if the amount of dark areas in a scene are just right, the damn lighter areas flicker back and forth between brightness levels a few times a second.

They really need to give us an option to disable this its so annoying.

I didn't test your settings, but they look pretty close to mine so I'd say they should be pretty good wink.gif

Have you tried playing around with the different picture size options and using the "move" tool to reposition your PS2 image? 1:1 mapping with "just fit" will definitely have black bars. The PS2 won't fill the screen unless you overscan with one of the zoom options.

Yes, I did tried all of the picture size options, neither of them is good for my ps2. The move tool only allows me to move the picture vertically and those options which overscan the picture makes the picture bigger than the actual screen size and I still have a right black bar since the picture continues to be off to the left side :'(. This TV was a replacement for a Sony KDL32-EX600 and I had the same problem on that tv as well. Do you or anyone else here have a PS2 to check if this happens on your tv?

It might be better to enquire in a PS2 forum?

Maybe, but I have more LCDs at home and my ps2 works well on those.

Hi have just recently joined and attempted to read almost half way but i just got to ask...in case already addressed somewhere
maybe the wrong place to post here or if i should just start a new thread, please advice.

has anyone ever experienced random shutoff?
i have 32eh5000 and connected via pc (EVGA GTX670) dvi to hdmi (DVI PC).
i have 3 of them connected to pc, side by side...
i just got them for days (not a week of usage yet, and only few hours total here and there so far in a day, roughly 6 hrs, definitely not over 8 hours for sure, and maybe 2 hours each usage intervals, not even everyday) so not sure if this is something on settings

last night my center just turned off (night time, if that matters), didn't turn back on, but no problems turning it back on
earlier my right section just turned off (night time, if that matters), didn't turn back on, but no problems turning it back on
last night have used it maybe 3 hours (while surfing online)
earlier, just maybe 1-2 hours (idle on that screen for maybe few minutes, not over half an hour, while left screen also on while idle but didn't turn off though)

so far the center hasn't turned off again (1st time last night) and it's been used earlier in the morning for more than 4 hours, tonight it's been over 4 hours as well.
but the right screen turned off (1st time)...

sleep mode - definitely off
eco settings
- energy saving: low
- eco sensor: on
- no signal power off: 15 min
- auto power off: on

no other remotes being used in the house, none can think off that may have shut one off (and not even all at the same time).
any help, feedback, thoughts, directions to this matter, would really appreciate it.
thanks.

PS
just wanted to add on random shut off...i previously set the time, but for some reason it's been gone.
was away over the weekend so not sure if there was a power failure that caused this.
last night, no time was even set on all of them when center turned off.
earlier no time was set on left and right, when only the right turned off.

Unfortunately I don't have a PS2 or other standard def console to test. You can search through the thread, and this one below as well to see if anyone else has had luck with the PS2:

I think the TV keeps the time in memory and only loses the time when it loses external power, so if your losing the time that you set than it may point to an external power issue.

So I went and bought a HDMI to VGA converter and have it all hooked up. Same problem as before. Laptop recognises that there is a monitor connected, i can drag windows off my screen onto the extended display, but the TV ua32eh5306 still is not recognising that anything is there. So is this an issue with my GPU. INCREDIBLY frustrating as I bought this to be mainly a second monitor. Also I can't seem to find anything regarding pixel format in my video card settings.

On the system menu there is also "Auto Protection Time" which is supposed to kill the screen in the event of a static image to prevent burn-in (or is that the same as "no signal power off"?).

Auto Protection Time: 2 hours
think that's when screen is same for this amount of time right (like leave it on pause or just leave the monitor for a while)?
don't think it falls with my scenario though.
unless 2 hours of browsing online falls to this category?

No signal power off: 15 mins
think that's when there's no input found on the screen?
so when my pc turns off and there's nothing on screen, am expecting my tvs to turn off in 15 mins.

Don't really know at this point if there's an issue with my units.
I suppose turn everything off and see if issue reoccurs?
Or anyone else have any insights on this?
Since they're new (few days old only), I'd like to get them exchanged if I must/have to.
But don't want to go through the trouble if it isn't necessary.

Thanks!

For some reason my time went away again last night to all 3 screens, don't think power ever went away.
I wonder if it's due to the power strip...
http://www.amazon.com/Rocketfish-10-Outlet-Manager-Protection-Filtering/dp/B0083CZK9I/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1366117843&sr=8-5&keywords=rocketfish+power+strip

Had my pc as the master and the rest of the 3 tvs as under controlled.
Don't even think it really works the right away because when pc is off, tvs don't seem to turn off.
And as to when the time went away, am certain I still saw the red standby light so that's kind of odd.
I only set the time manually though, don't know if that matters.

I may have to replace the strip see if that changes anything or even the cause that shuts the tvs.

I already contacted Samsung, I'm curious if they can replace the sets new since i just got them or have to deal where I got them.
Got it online so I hate having to have to send it back for replacements (hassle and cost), and not sure if Samsung takes care of the shipping both ways nor from original seller.

Cut out all the unknowns (temporarily): power the TVs from a continuous supply, and turn off all the auto-off settings. There are too many variables at the moment.
