Zodiac OOP? Re-issue?

I have been waiting for Fincher's Zodiac (2disc) to go to $15.99. I checked recently and it appears it's OOP and copies go for $100+?!?.
Is there word of a re-issue anytime soon?

Grab a used 2-disc for ~$40 if you really have to have the 2-disc version. As you've seen, you snooze you lose.

I recently grabbed a copy for $5 at a closing Blockbuster. So if you have any Blockbuster stores closing around your area, you might want to check there.

Could this have anything to do with any of the additional material on the second disk? Like maybe rights not properly secured?

I managed to buy one a long time back. Haven't watched it yet (though I saw it several times on DVD); probably Fincher's best film.

The UK version is still available from amazon.co.uk and is region free. I purchased it there since it is released by Warners and was available on Blu-ray in the UK during the period that Paramount had sold out to Microsoft/Toshiba.

BTW Paramount's reluctance to reissue/update their releases is not limited to Blu-ray, this has been going on for 30 years. By contrast, Warners has always done a better job. Since Warners distributes Paramount in the UK and believes in region-free releases, this gives the consumer another option.

The Warner release is reviewed here on DVDbeaver, which includes a comparison to the North American release:

Though dvdbeaver is using the japanese release, it's the same as the UK release...since WB was responsible for the release throughout Europe and Asia. As verified by dvdbeaver, both the Int'l ed and the NA edition are the "director's cut" of the film.

The sites does a good job of outlining the differences from a tech. standpoint between the versions.

I ended up just getting the UK release as well. Be aware that while the US release had a lossless track, the UK is Dolby Digital only.

I mistakenly ordered and received the UK release of "Zodiac" thinking it was the US version being reissued and now back in print. Is the US version getting a new pressing along with numerous other Paramount/Warner Bros catalog titles in the next couple weeks as I've heard or am I wrong? And if so, is this the 2 disc version being reissued?

My understanding especially after checking this thread is the UK release has everything crammed onto one disc with lossy audio while the US 2 disc release features a lossless audio track and a much higher bitrate.

Its up to Warner, who barely let them have Badlands and Paramount who only just started with criterion. So baby steps here.

There hasn't been any real rumours. Just random speculation, mostly from people who think Criterion must release absolutely everything. There is no reason why Criterion should release Zodiac. Fincher has his own people who work on home video releases of his films (i.e. David Prior), just look at the Blu-ray releases of Fincher's latest films. All of them are fantastic 2-disc sets. Early information indicated that Warner will re-issue the 2-disc Zodiac (along with other Paramount titles) in January but now the pre-order has been removed from Amazon.

According to the press site, it is going to be a 2 disc set so that's a lock for an exact re-release.

I'm sure I read somewhere that it had DTS-HD MA audio but is still single disc, so they must have dropped something to fit it in. I would doubt the video quality is any different from the original if it is a new release.

Blu ray.com lists this as a two disc set........the link to Amazon is the wrong link though. The WB site says it ships in a double case.......should be the two disc version as before.
