There hasn't been any real rumours. Just random speculation, mostly from people who think Criterion must release absolutely everything. There is no reason why Criterion should release Zodiac. Fincher has his own people who work on home video releases of his films (i.e. David Prior), just look at the Blu-ray releases of Fincher's latest films. All of them are fantastic 2-disc sets. Early information indicated that Warner will re-issue the 2-disc Zodiac (along with other Paramount titles) in January but now the pre-order has been removed from Amazon.

I seriously doubt Warner has any rights to sublicense Paramount titles to others, and Paramount has been licensing to Criterion for over five years already.
