New "What Dreams May Come" transfer?

"New Master Edition"? Huh. Not sure if that genuinely means that the film has been rescanned, or is just some weirdly translated marketing jargon.

CD Japan has it for approximately $58.

There's a member of the HDD forums who lives in Japan and buys a lot of Blu-rays. I'll see if I can bring this to his attention.

"New master" (ニューマスター) means "remaster" in Japanese (though they use "remaster" リマスター as well). King Records is completely unrelated to Universal, so it wouldn't be surprising if they made their own transfer.

If anything, the American disc seems to look better. There's a lot more blurring in the grass on the Japanese screen shot. (Of course, this isn't totally fair since they're not the same frame.)

Keeping that in mind, the contrast on the US disc looks boosted in comparison. But yeah, different scenes, different captures, different diifferent...

Going off just those two frames, it looks like the same master with the same issues for both.

Unrelated to the OP but if you truly want to get a better idea of how/why the levels of Hell are what they are in this movie, read Heaven & Hell by Emanuel Swedenborg as that is what half of this movie is based on.

Just seeing the levels and "the faces of the water" are cool effects but understanding where it all came from makes this movie all the better.

One of my all time favorites. In fact, the main Swedenborg Cathedral is a few miles from me and a awesome Gothic cathedral and property originally built by the Pit Cairns who owned Pittsburgh Glass.

Sorry for the off topic intrusion but I rarely ever see anyone talk about this movie.
