Debating HTIB or Component *Noobie* -1000

Tryng to figure out what would be best for us at the moment.
We are looking into a 2.1 or 3.1 to start if Doing by components.

our plans for usage are Movies with a kick, Music & hopefully speakers capable of handling some karaoke. We will be using a karaoke capable dvd player.
Mixer should not be needed as the player has mic inputs & is made for karaoke.

Trying to debate on
HTIB or Component*

Receiver?

Speakers? Towers Possibly Preferred ie like the pioneer 51lr But would like to carry live vocals for karaoke 1-2hrs a day sometimes. (Not Full Volume for the sake of our ears lol)

Sub?
Honestly I like the downfire Less chance of puncturing during cleaning etc.
HSU, Elemental Designs are currently on the top of my list for subs.

I found this site doing searches for what I am looking for. But getting more and more confused what I should do.
I would also Like the receiver not to run too hot.

room size about 12x20 in a manufactured home with kitchen & dining on opposite side of the living room Open on both sides of the wall

I Love my Bass especially Mobile Which I know will not happen for under 10k in a home Theater the way I Like.

What Speakers Receiver & Sub would you guys suggest? & Possible Center? Or else would you suggest a HTIB like Onkyo, Yamaha or Denon?

Sorry if I may be asking this in wrong spot, site or way I am doing the best I can under circumstances.

Yes I know everyone will suggest components which is why I am trying to determine. I would love to stick in 400-800 range but that is dang near impossible for size & volume for decent sound.

if your looking to stay in the 400-800 range I suggest the energy take classic 5.1 system with an avr. you can get both the system and the avr for about 600, depending on the receiver you get. also shop online for both, some places like Amazon and newegg have good deals. I think that would at least be a good starting point and you could upgrade that setup over time

Thanks for the reply
Didn't notice this was finally posted Got tired of waiting & bought the onkyo 7409 HTIB from amazon. Waiting for them to finally ship it.

For slightly more then the Receiver to include speakers I feel it wasn't bad.
Then I could continue researching & getting idea's about which speakers to go with.
The net on the receiver wasn't too important to me But it had some decent features I liked. Just hope it sounds good enough & powers enough for my liking.
& Hopefully the cheap speakers it comes with handles a little karaoke also.

Debating on good fronts & sub in future. Possibly HSU Sub but currently unsure about it. That will hopefully handle karaoke decently Without damaging the speakers.

Its ok, I just happened to come across it and noticed there wasn't a reply. I bought a HTIB after my surround sound system of another company had gone out and I needed a quick fix.

At this point I don't have anything left of that system but I had it for several months before I got the upgrade bug and it served me well. As long as the receiver has the necessary hookups like hdmi and a good calibration like audessy you should be fine. What I like about HTIBs is that they are good starting points.

Speaking of hsu subs, just bought one and I have been enjoying it ever since I hooked it up, which was 2 days ago. I do highly recommend hsu, if you have any questions about the company or products, Dr. Hsu himself answers questions in the hsu subwoofer threads in these forums.

Ya I have HSU Sub on my top list.
He emailed me once but never replied back to the other 2.
So I cancelled out my original thoughts about his center & others.

How is the shake & hit?
I am just use to Competition Car Audio. & Not going to invest that way again if you know what I mean. LOL
I ordered the onkyo ht7409 1-2 steps below the THX Model. But same receiver.

If I blow these speakers I don't care for 70 bucks more then the receiver or something close to that it's no big deal.

But if I invest in quality I want it to last. Even thought of building my own SUB & Fronts.

Which Model SUB did you get?
I know if I want the bass im use to I would have to get a dozen or so for the room size I have right now. LOL

If you like the downfiring design, look at Outlaw Audio. Hsu helped Outlaw design their subs, actually almost the same as the Hsu's but an all downfiring design, woofer and ports fire down. I have the LFM-1 Plus, the Plus and the EX are excellent subs at their price point.

I got the vtf-15H. I have a fairly small listening area but it is basically open to the entire house except for bathrooms and bedrooms. That is why I went with the 15H and I absolutely love it, its a beast of a sub. For testing purposes I watched a few scenes from Cloverfield on Blu-Ray and it was fantastic bass, particularly at a certain part when the monster comes around a corner and just stomps on the ground, that sequence is about 90 seconds of low frequencies, utterly amazing.
