At this point we decided to take a break (La Cumbre Elevated IPA) and regroup. We ran some test tones through the subs to test for general function. The two broken tee nuts resulted in some pretty nasty (noisy) leaks. I plugged those with butyl rubber tape. I also discovered that I can barely hear a 15Hz signal. We got the amp pretty hot running test tones, but I figured the B&K should be robust. Plus it was free.

Here's the third run (actually, it's about the 10th run - I skipped a few incremental changes).

Not believing this, we kicked back and listened to some music for awhile. Then reran the tests with the same basic results. There is no EQ in the signal chain.

We then did some "critical" listening (Jeff Beck, WOTW, Tron). Both of us were pretty floored by the performance. To quote Abraham: The system came together almost perfectly, and it certainly sounded like it during the demos! WOTW was really good!

I am amazed at the system. I have never owned proper bass, and really never experienced a true high end home theater. Needless to say, I'm still grinning!

Hopefully Abraham will chime in here. Please fire away with questions, comments, criticism - all is good and appreciated.

Hey, that's my cue!

It was good to finally get over to your place - you have a beautiful house. It was also good to measure those subs, because the final graph speaks for itself. I think it turned out great as a starting point!

The only limiting factor, as far as I can tell, is the amp. It'll be good to get back over and do some compression and distortion testing to flesh out the limits of the system as it currently stands. After you got the leaks temp plugged, putting your ear up to the MFW-15 drivers resulted in only a very, very slight brushing sound when doing 5hz at 80dB, and maybe a little electrical noise as well. Totally inaudible beyond 2" from the driver.

Now you just gotta build those Pi speakers you mentioned, and integrate them into the system. Your B&W L/C/R sounded ok, but I think you're on the right track in thinking it might even get better with more capable mains, and certainly better surrounds/rears. The whole theater is gonna be great when you find time to get it all situated. smile.gif

Looking forward to bringing over some demo material when I get back into town again in mid July!

Wow that frequency response is amazingly flat. I see how some (especially the infinite baffle guys) struggle with response. Just like realestate. Placement, placement, placement...well, and DISplacement.

But the sound is believable - couldn't be happier!!

And here's how we do it in the summer (grilled, peeled, chopped, troweled onto a cheeseburger).


Oh, and we hang out in cool basements playing with electronic toys.

Coming from a Canon fan, I'd say all the hardware needed to operate the Nikon in the box.

LOL! (rolleyes.gif)

That's mostly structured wiring patch panels in the left rack. At the bottom I've got a network switch and three Sonos zone players. At the very top is a 1U UPS that powers some of the network bits.
