Hey guys, just unboxed my UT50 and started breaking it in. However, I have this issue with solid colors and banding. Pictures below show it (ignore the dark circles, those are my phone camera sucking). Note how the area to the right of the selected menu option turns darker, and everywhere to the right of the menu is brighter. I returned my first one, and the new one is doing this as well. Also, on the new set, the pixels seem to be jumping around a lot up close, more so than a standard pixel orbiter should. Any ideas?

Mine does the same thing, as everyone's will, from what I've read all these plasmas have this effect (tho I am by no means a plasma expert, someone will correct me if I am wrong tho [please], from what I have read).

My pixels do the same also, cure......... don't stick your head inches from the TV. Works for me at least.tongue.gif

This is the problem with reading these forums, we look for problems, cure .... just watch the TV as you would if it were 1 year old.

Meaning don't look for problems, as someone else said, all TV's have problems, nothing is perfect, and if you think so just let one of us look at it, we will find something for you.tongue.gif

Enjoy your new TV, and get some 3D playing.....wink.gif

What you are seeing is line bleed, not banding. Line bleed is inherent to plasma technology and there is nothing wrong with your set in that regard. The pixel dancing/flickering/whatever you want to call it is also normal, although the 2012 Panasonics are worse than average in this regard.

Have you tried updating the TV software? The newest update includes performance enhancements.

At any rate, go for the extra 5". 55" to 60" is a bigger jump than most people appreciate on paper or in the store. The only serious performance drawbacks of the U compared to the UT, at least according to Cnet, is the U's inability to handle 24p input properly and the fact it seems to wash out quicker in ambient light; however, 24p input is easily defeated on any output device and I'm assuming ambient light isn't a problem if you were already considering the UT.

Thanks for responding Yukon.
So the UT basically has the same input lag as the ST (~40ms)? Has this been confirmed with Leo's lag tester?

I can control the lighting pretty well. Plus, i usually watch TV at night.
I'll be using an Onkyo NR717 receiver so i guess i shouldn't have the 24p handling problem. Am I correct to asume this?

Thanks again.

I have the 55UT50, and I love it. I just got to pair of Panasonic 3D Glasses, TY-ER3D4MU, and I can't get them to recognize my TV and sync up. I have tried from 1'6", like recommended, and I have tried all position in between that and being right up close to the TV. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

It's very frustrating because I've waited a long time to get my 3D glasses because of the cost. Anyone out there can help me?

Thanks,

Make sure 3D content is playing when you sync them. 18" is the minimum distance I would recommend, they should sync fine at normal seating distance. Is anything blocking the bottom edge of the TV? If these are things you haven't checked give them a try, otherwise you may have a bad pair of glasses. But you need to have 3D content playing or 2D-3D conversion going before you can sync, they won't sync to 2D content.

Anikun7,

I tried what you said. I had "Finding Nemo" the 3D version playing on my 3D Sony Blu-ray player, but I still couldn't get the glasses to recognize my TV.I read the reviews on these glasses and a few people had some problems getting them to connect, but they finally got them to sync up. I find it hard to believe that two differ pair would be bad. These glasses were sold separately, not as a set. I think I'm going to contact Panasoic, and see if they can help me.

Thanks for your help,

Thanks for the info, guys. So I guess using the screen occasionally as a monitor for graphic design is out of the question due to line bleed, huh? I'm worried about whether it would show up in content with lots of simple shapes and flat colors, such as The Simpsons Movie. I can honestly say I never noticed it when setting up the VT25, but it jumped at me right away with both UT50 sets.

Also, in the AVForums review I'm seeing 45ms of input lag - a bit much for my tastes. Oh well, I'll guess I'll let it run the test slides until the weekend, then set it up in my apartment and see how it interacts with the amount of sunlight that comes in from the giant windows - I may have to wind up getting an LED/LCD instead (ewwww) depending on the resulting glare and what happens to the black levels.

It may sound silly, but did you charge them? Also, do you see double edges on the TV so you know for sure that it is showing 3D? I'm sorry if these seem like stupid suggestions you've already tried but I'm just trying to get a good idea of what you've tried and if something in the chain just isn't working right. smile.gif

I see Amazon currently has the TY-ER3D4MU glasses for $51.82. I may just have to get myself a pair to try out this new fangled 3D stuff. tongue.gif

The Samsung 4100GB go for around $19 and work fine with the 2012 plasmas (I use them on my 55" UT50).

They're flimsier and use CR2025 batteries rather than being rechargeable. But picture is just as good as the Panny glasses and they're a lot cheaper so maybe a better option if you're like me and don't watch 3D stuff all that often. I prefer not having rechargeables anyway so I don't have to worry about them being dead when I do want to watch something (the batteries are cheap, so easy to keep some around).

I've been going back and forth, Cheap Samsung or more expensive Pany's. I even saw a review that suggested one Pany for myself and Samsungs for everyone else. I don't see myself watching that much 3D so found it hard justifying the more expensive ones. I'll go ahead and order some Samsungs.

i got the Samsung ones last week, work just fine to me and they are not bad on comfort too.

I think the Samsung one are better for over prescription glasses too. My SO doesn't like the Panasonic ones over her glasses but the Samsung stay in the right place. The battery is easy to change, too.

Does anyone have any experience with webcam on 55UT50? Microsoft D-3000 webcam wont work on it. Any suggestion on how to make it work? or any replacement?
I am very frustrated now as i cannot do Skype on it.

Samsung 4100 glasses use CR2025 batteries. I will try my cam and see what happens.

The only camera(s) supported are the TV Skype cams. The UT50 manual says to use the TY-CC20W, Skype had a TV conference webcam listed too. There's no other webcams listed as being supported. I would say if you want to use your TV for Skype would be to set up a PC with the UT50 as a monitor.

Aww.. thats a bummer...
The only reason i wanna use TV for Skype is that you can watch TV and be notified on the screen if someone tries to contact you..
I guess i will look into those two Cameras you mentioned.. whichever one cost less would be best bet..
Thanks alot man..

I hope these Cameras have built in Microphone... or else it would be a waste..

Someone on Amazon mentioned a Logitech alternative to the Panasonic one, because the Panasonic webcam on Amazon is like ~$90. That camera better work wonders if I were to buy it (I won't be).

TY-CC20W: http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-VIERA-TY-CC20W-Communication-Camera/dp/B007EHI1BC/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1358893247&sr=1-1&keywords=ty-cc20w

The mentioned alternative: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-HDTV-Widescreen-Video-Cam/dp/B0040QE98Y/

Read the reviews and save your receipt if you choose the Logitech, just in case. At half the price of the Panasonic it seems like a better value but I didn't read about it other than a few 2012 Panasonic TV owners have had success with it, one of them using it on their ST50.

I suppose that depends how intensive your graphic designing is. In most cases I don't think it would affect your ability to create graphics, as it's easy to estimate where the line bleed is coming from and how it's affecting the frame. Of course, you can always export the workflow to another display device to confirm your work. If you're a serious designer, however, then line bleed might be a problem.

The U series is reported to have less input lag. If I had to guess, the increased input lag comes from the new Focus Field Drive on the UT/ST/GT/VT panels. The U series employs Panasonic's subfield technology from 2011 and previous years.

Well, I called Panasonic Concierge service line, and they were able to walk me through the steps and now everything is working fine. The 3D is awesome!

EPG info request:

Can someone comment on the EPG on these, for OTA viewing in USA? Does it show a table of info, or is it just current program/next for the current channel?

The first time you sync the glasses, you must hold the "On" button all the way to the right and hold it there for about 30 seconds, then release it. This gives the glasses enough time to pick up the signal. Once I did this the glasses had no problem syncing up. Of course the manual never mention this. It said to just flip the "On" button on and release it, but this doesn't allow the glasses enough time to read the signal. The 3D on this set was fantastic! "Finding Nemo" was really a visual treat. I never been really big on 3D, and I bought this plasma because of it's great 2D picture, but I think. with the right kind of 3D movie, watching a movie in 3D does add to the enjoyment. I also have "The Avengers" in 3D and I can't wait to try that one out!

Take care,

Posted more details in the buzzing thread, but the tech wasn't able to quiet my buzz down enough for me to tolerate it. Swapped out the screws and said the buzz was at normal levels in his experience.

I opted to send it back to Amazon and try a 55" Panasonic LED set (the TC-L55ET5). I'd also started to get annoyed by some IR and having to keep the blinds down during the day, and most lights off at night for it to be watchable. So an LED is probably better for my needs (also lots of ESPN and video games) since I'm not a huge videophile anyway, and thus not that obsessed with black levels etc.

Loved the PQ on the UT50, and probably could have managed the IR. But the buzzing was driving me nuts, and trying another isn't an option really since Amazon is sold out. I don't have much patience for playing the panel lottery anyway.
