Amazon UK. ELP was wrapped, Tarkus was unwrapped. Odd, but both are in perfect order.
scolumbo, while it's odd with the shrink wrap, it's not uncommon at all for audio discs to not have shrink wrap.
All of the King Crimson discs I've ordered from the UK have not had shrink wrap.

It seems most of the discs from Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson haven't been wrapped, maybe the King Crimson releases? Those are most of what I've ordered from Burning Shed.

While that doesn't necessarily alarm me, when I saw the package arrive with cardboard open at one end and no wrapping, and considering it came across the ocean, I was convinced I would open it and the covers would have bent edges, scratches, etc. Pleasantly surprised.

Listening to Tarkus now. I had forgotten how long it's been since I've heard this. Surround mix sounds good on first listen.

One of the reasons I like SW's mixes is he doesn't tend to over-emphasize the center channel, or lazily just place all vocals in the center channel. It seems the Tarkus mix is similar in that the vocals tend to be spread across different channels, and there are tracks where the center channel hardly seems to be used at all (Infinite Space being an example).

When I first opened the box and saw the unwrapped disc I thought "Just my luck. They started replacing discs". At the time I couldn't remember which album was going to change. Looks like they replaced your Tarkus disc. smile.gif

I thoughtthat as well but the cover still has unknown ballad listed I have to confirm that though. I pre-ordered so, it seems that they would've been shipped in the same batch. But we'll see.

My copy has Unknown Ballad listed on Disc 2 and Disc 3 with the new 2012 Stereo Mix. Haven't listened yet, only the DVD-A.

edit: confirmed it was on both Discs 2 and 3. Disc 3 (DVD-A) has an odd way of navigating. To get to the 2012 Stereo Mix, you first have to select Audio Setup, then Advanced Resolution Stereo, then the Stereo Mix appears on the Track List. While it's nice that the disc defaults to the Surround Mix, there's apparently no way to get to the Stereo Mix from the Main Menu.

Yrs I noted that also and the fact I had to turn on my projector to select the stereo mix.

My discs both came unwrapped in the open cardboard style packing but were undamaged.

I haven't received mine either. They were also due on Tuesday. I'll give it till Saturday, then I start whining!

I got mine on Monday and that was to New Zealand so I would expect US folks to get theirs soon unless you live away from an international airport so you have to rely on internal USPS for the last leg.

Got mine form Amazon US on the 5th--haven't listened yet. That's what the weekend is for.

Both were (and still are) shrink wrapped until tomorrow. "Twill be sweet.

My Amazon UK discs arrived yesterday. Both unwrapped but I think that is the norm from them. The withdrawn track is there, otherwise quite innocuous in the context of the other music!

LIstened to the new stereo mix for Tarkus in the car--sounds wonderful, clear as a bell, amazing that it is as old as it is! Very fond of the album, one of the first I purchased, back when it was first released. Bought it for the amazing cover, mail order from Record Club of America. Anyone else geezin' badly enough to remember them?

Won't get to the surround for a couple of weeks...but just thrilled to have it, and can't wait to see what Stevie gets his hands on next!

You're dang tootin' I remember Record Club of America!
I still have the albums I bought from them. Led Zeppelin I, Blind Faith, Idlewild South, John BarleyCorn Must Die, etc.
I think you got like 6 albums free for joining helluva deal.

Yep. Considering that, I nominate Larry to be first to auction the "rare withdrawn version" of Tarkus on eBay to see what goldmine gets tapped!

They had their own pressings of cassettes and 8-tracks that were very low budget, as I recall...

Just got email from Amazon US. ELP and Tarkus come out tomorrow (9/11) for $16.38 and $14.88 respectively.
Pre-ordered both last week. Tarkus was $16.38 last week and has now come down to $14.88. Hope to be listening to these soon.
For a release that had so much anticipation, especially with the move from lossy to lossless 5.1 audio, the number of reviews of the content on this board is quite low with most of the comments appearing to be about the packaging or even more peripheral topics.

For what it's worth I really enjoyed these new versions and can't wait for Trilogy (my second favourite) if it's coming. I don't know if Steve Wilson will redo BSS given it's out on DVD-A already though the title is now rare as hens teeth, but if he does, I might get it anway just to compare.

From Steven Wilson Twitter..."My stereo/5.1 remix of Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick is now available to pre-order for 5th November release: burningshed.com"
Bummer...just got a notice from Amazon.com this morning that there will be a delay in my pre-ordered shipment of both ELP discs frown.gif and they both show "Temporarily out of stock" on the site FTW mad.gif, oh well typical. Fortunately I am a patient person and hopefully these little jems will be in my hands soon smile.gif Although this may really try may patience if the wait last to long Grrrrrr! Should have ordered from Burning Shed I guess, oh well.

Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And no Box set Yipeeeeeeeeee!
^^^I agree. The only negative is it appears there is no lossless surround mix. Still, TAAB in surround has been near the top of my wish list for many years.

"The CD features a new mix of the album by Steven Wilson, while the DVD contains 5.1 DTS & Dolby Digital surround sound mix, high quality stereo 96/24 (new mix), the original 1972 stereo mix flat transferred to 96/24 PCM (directly from the Morgan Studios recording by Robin Black), plus a 1972 radio ad."

No, instead we get an expensive 2 disc set. Did you check the pre-order price on Burning Shed? It's almost double what the 2 disc Larks Tongue in Aspic is selling for, and unlike TAAB, it has a dvd-a! I'm not sure I'm will to spend almost $34 before shipping on a lossy disc. Sorry, the Aqualung box set was a bargain in comparison.
Yep, saw the price and while sad (along with the lack of DVDA-lossless) it won't deter me because TAAB has been in the #1 spot in my musical heart since the day it was first released, and just like Aqualung I will get it. Besides I will most likely get it through Amazon like i always do and get it cheaper (as the price almost always comes down) with no shipping (...although most likely at a later date...as they are almost always deleyed) but like I said with the ELP discs I am a patient man so in the end it will be worth it to me. It's friken' TAAB in 5.1, the one I have been dreaming of in 5.1 forever!

I hear you, even with all my bitching at the end of the day I'm probably going to get it, but like you I'll wait and see if the price comes down. No pre-order on this one.
While I went ahead with the pre-order on BS, hopefully, there will be disc-only sets available in the future without the hardback book that includes newspaper, photos, etc. at a more reasonable price.

For me, I'm impatient, and after all, this is TAAB in surround!
