This is one of my favorite films and up for preorder.
Will be definitely grabbing this if it comes available.

This is great news, The Core is also one of my favorite Sci Fi films. Great casting and the operation to "set things right" comes at the cost of a lot of personal sacrifice.

Hope they do a great job on the bluray. I have been waiting for months to hear of this since the german site never eventuated.

Well at least it's better than Day After Tomorrow and 2012. I'll get it I'm kind of a softie for these cheesey catastrophe flicks.
I'll pick this one up.

Love the disaster flicks!

This is probably one of the most despised film by the scientific community, but I agree it's entertaining nonetheless.

Rotten Tomatoes:

Tomatometer: 42%
Audience: 41%

Finally, the greatest film of all time, thus far, comes to Blu-Ray! I can't wait to hear it in lossless surround!
Figures, I just did the disc to digital upgrade to HD on this one through Vudu/Walmart, and the transfer was god awful. Hopefully the Blu Ray will be remastered, unlike the Vudo version which is obviously the old DVD master.

This film has such a terrific sound design. I can't wait to hear it with lossless audio
post #14 of 35
I enjoyed it when it came out. Look forward to getting it for my collection

It's been playing often on Cinemax HD lately.

Not OAR, but looks really good for HD Cable.

When in doubt, nuke it.

And I'm in doubt if the comment in this thread are genuine. So..

The film is genuinely ludicrous, that's for sure. I despise movies that make some pretense of of being "scientific", while mangling the science beyond comprehension.

So, the next greatest film of all time, according to your analysis, is: C.H.U.D. II: Bud the Chud?

Get carried away, much?

Deep Impact was actually better than this turkey, and that's not saying much. IMHO, of course.
The Core is somewhat of a Remake of Unknown World (1951). I prefer Unknown World.
I wouldn't mind revisiting C.H.U.D. films. Here's to hoping they get released.
My God, this film actually lowered my IQ.

Thankfully it was temporary
It's not good, it's a rather stupid movie even some names are pretty stupid (unobtainium, wow what an imaginative name ).
But for some reason I still find it fun to watch, so I have to put this movie in the "guilty pleasure" category
post #25 of 35
definitely a rental, that is if netflix would ever carry this movie on blu.....

Unlike 2012, Deep Impact, ID4, The Island, Armageddon, Super 8,.....

Of those you've listed I would say that only Deep Impact have "science" as part of the movie plot.

What really annoys me though about "the core" is the sequence were they show the electrical discharge event in europe.

1. They look like D E S T R U C T O B E A M S from some old UFO movie.
2. They sound like D E S T R U C T O B E A M S from som old UFO movie.

Very subjective observation since all of them ARE sci-fi. While I agree that Deep Impact tends to take itself more seriously than most (even The Core) of the others I listed they all contain science elements to one degree or another.

How about The Day After Tomorrow? This is "based" more on scientific theory and even the main character is a scientist (climatologist).

Also could throw in another Mimi Leder film The Peacemaker. Just like Deep Impact it takes itself rather serious with HUGE scientific flaws.

For the record I like them all and except them for the indivedual "popcorn" value they supply.

The Day After Tomorrow got BLASTED by the scientific community lol. I was a oceanography major back when that movie was mainstream and every professor at ucsd was talking down the movie lol.

Still entertaining though

Looking forward to getting it--hoping it looks and sounds great.
Have the Journey To The Center of Earth Coming too and looking forward to that as well
Its all about entertainment but I love how they are both based on fact--like Earth vs the Flying Saucers.
