Infocus X9 noisy color wheel, flickering color

Hi!

I have seen numerous old posts about this issue. My Infocus X9 PJ has a noisy color wheel and the color flickers and now mostly shows a black and white picture. There was a great deal of dust on the unit as we have been negligent to keep it clean.

1. I vacuumed out the exterior of the unit with our central air vacuum.
2. I removed the lamp and blew out what I could see with a 'canned air' which seemed to clean up the unit nicely.
3. I tried to remove the cover of the PJ after removing the 4 screws but could not seem to get the case open (I didn't want to force it), there are tabs somewhere that I don't want to break. How do I get the cover off?

5. Any other advice? Any advice on cleaning the projector's interior light system? The color flicker (B&W picture) will come and go. If I shut the projector off and then turn it on again, the color will be normal for a few minutes... then the flicker (B&W) comes back.

You might as well google and find out how to take it apart. If you find nothing online, then just take as many screws out as possible, and carefully inspect the outside for any signs of tabs. Sometimes I place a flat screwdriver in a seem and look for an area with give, that is a good place to start when taking something apart that is held together with tabs.

If you have to buy a new color wheel, you'll need to take it apart anyhow. I think you are better off taking it apart and cleaning the inside as well as possible. It could be that dust has gotten into a sensor in/around the CW and the PJ is not reliably determining the position of the color wheel.

I have looked around on Google but still can't find disassembly instructions. You are right, I am going to have to try and poke around a bit for hidden screws and tabs. I priced out a color wheel from alibaba.com for $100 USD, is this worth doing?

I would try to fix it without the new cw first. It could be just a connector that needs to be reseated. As well check by feel for screw that are hidden below decals to get it apart.

I was successful in cleaning the color wheel! I was able to open the case and blow out the dust with canned air. The projector now has a quiet color wheel and regular color but there are somewhat noticeable dust blobs when the screen is black... how does one get rid of these dust blobs?
