For anyone interested, the SAVE coupons are still working at Pauls TV.
SAVE50 on the ST50 and SAVE100 on the GT50 at checkout.

I'm wondering what people think of this situation. I went to Best Buy the other day to return my awful 55" ET5 (abysmal black levels) and asked about a 55ST50. They had no new ones and no 55GT50's either. But they did have an open box. I looked at the box and it was in good shape. I was told it was all complete and returned simply because, like me returning the ET5, it didn't fit the customer's needs. I bought it for $999. I came back the next day and took care of all the paperwork. I asked them again why it was returned and what the deal was with the TV and they basically made me feel like an a$$ for even inquiring. Again they told me the TV is fine, "It's been checked out by the Geek Squad." So I brought it home.

First I'll say this, it appears to work fine, so far. Beautiful picture out of the box--so much better than that LED crud. BUT...the back panel of the TV had so clearly been removed. AND...the Geek Squad monkeys couldn't even put the screws back correctly. One was missing altogether and two others were not threaded correctly and were in at an angle. Oh, and the TV was also missing the power cord. I was furious. I called and bitched about it and long story short, the (very reasonable) head store manager knocked another $150 off the price of the TV. So I got it for $850 and BB will get me three new screws and a power cord. He also assured me that if something goes wrong in the next few months, he'll just take it back--I don't need to worry about the 30-day period.

Would you be happy with that? A seemingly perfectly functioning 55ST50 for $850 that for some unknown reason had the back taken off. I got in on a black friday Square Trade deal so I have a three year warranty for cheap from them. The only other factor I'll add is that I need to be done with this--can't spend any more time on it, can't take any more time off from work to wait for delivery people or return this thing if at all possible. Thanks for any input!

I'd personally feel a little apprehensive about it. They definitely should have caught that. Also, just to be devil's advocate, it is possible that Geek Squad were not the ones to remove the back panel. You'd be surprised at the condition in which some customers return products. Either way, it seems odd that they would be willing to sell it in that condition. Did you have them check to see if they could order a new-in-box ST or GT? The ST may be hard to come by, but the GT should still be available.

Your instinct is right: input 1 just crapped out. It's going back. The store manager said thr only available st or gt is the 60" GT. that's obviously a big step up. But he's looking into what he can do for me on the price. If its a deal I can't refuse on a new 60GT50, well, then...I won't be able to refuse. We'll see what happens. Otherwise I guess I'll call Paul's TV and see what they can do. I live 20 minutes from one of those. I'd really prefer not to buy online.

So they're offering me a new 60GT50 for $1,600 since they have no more STs at all. I really didn't anticipate spending that kind of money. But, it's seems like a great deal, no? Given what I've seen on prices lately, it looks very good. Am I correct here, should I suck it up and buy this at that price and not look back for a few years?

Picked up the 65ST50 two weeks ago at P.C. Richard & Son for $1799.97. Thoughts???

That is a pretty good deal. What store are you dealing with?

Just found this on google. Anyone seen anything better for a P60ST50? Or something close for the GT?

If you are thinking about ordering from them, If I remember correctly they operate out of their home and store the merchandise in a local warehouse.
They are NOT AUTHORIZED, and mostly likely you'll be getting new but grey market items.

If you want to order online I'd strongly suggest sticking to the authorized dealer list OR very well known retailers.

If you wanna try anyway make SURE you use a credit card that gives you added protection. (Amex for example)

Ordered from Paul's (P55ST50) on the 9th, and delivery offered yesterday 17th, but I postponed to Monday 21st as it suited me better. Only negative is the ebates contacted me to advise that my 2.5% rebate is being cancelled, due to my using a SAVE coupon.

Just bought 65" VT since it was on such a sweet deal!!! Panasonic TC-P65VT50 for $2499 at Paul's: http://www.kqzyfj.com/click-4037988-10928971 Just search for model # and enter promo code "save500" to get the deal. dont they have the 55VT50 for $1599.00 as well?

Re:...your open box situation
Thats too bad. I have have had both good and bad experiences with that same situation. Bottom line is dont make assumptions about what you are buying...good or bad
Check it out yourself....I just came into a similar deal at Sears for $329.00 for a 50ST50

I was questioning the sales guy...he said no issues...customer just bought and returned it
As far as I can tell that is accurate. The TV and the associated remote/ paperwork still have that "new " smell

Has anyone been able to get Best Buy to pricematch Paul's TV delivered price (including tax) on the ST50 series?
Got a call today, 21st, saying that the delivery truck was out of action, being repaired and no delivery would be made today. The check is in the mail, and the dog ate my homework were about the only excuses they did not use. Offered tomorrow, but doesn't suit me, so it will be Friday the 25th. Two and a half weeks to get a tv is really a pain. I would have bought from Amazon, but they charge me tax and so were about $200 more than Paul's.
I had delivery problems with Pauls also and it was coming from a local warehouse.
I referenced my new purchase in a different post, seeking some assistance on connections and bumped into this thread. Wasn't sure if we were allowed to post on prices but it looks like it. Since the guy was talking about a problem with his open box 55st50, I'll share mine. I went to BB to return some christmas gifts and noticed an open box panny 55st50 for $1036, regular sale price was $1300. The box said it was missing numerous parts. We opened the box and found everything inside, all paperwork, remote, power cord, screws, accessories etc. In fact, it does not look like the tv was ever used as most items were still in orig sealed pkg. The manufacture date was Nov 2012, so it is a new tv. Anyway, we pulled it out and the tv was in absolutely perfect condition, not a single mark. I asked what the best price was and they dropped it to $899 so I bought it. I paid $1000 less a $200 BB gift cert for my pn51e7000, so effectively, $800 so for $100 more, I was able to add a larger plasma to my movie room. It is amazing how much larger the screens look with just a few extra inches diaginal

Wow, pretty much same situation as mine. I found an open box 55ST50 at Best Buy marked at $1039 or so. Opened it up, and it had all the parts, even the edges were still wrapped. Had a manufacture date of October 2012, and found it had only been on for 20 hours through the service menu. They also dropped the price of mine to $899, with delivery.

Hmmm, 50 inch ST50 for $999 from amazon, or 60 inch UT50 and see if amazon will price match Paulstv to $1199?

Viewing distance of about 9 feet in a well light controlled room...

I'm in Buffalo NY, ordered a VT55 from Pauls I've had the TV for a couple of weeks now with no problems. Def worth the money I saved on tax.

That sucks. I bought an 55ST50 from Paul's and they called a few hours later to schedule. I could have had it in my hands the next morning if I wasn't busy. The scheduling process and delivery worked out perfectly for me. From what I could tell, the delivery guy was using his personal cellphone because I had a complicated schedule to work around and we were able to coordinate outside of normal business hours. He picked up every time I called him. Didn't even have to leave a single message! (I'm in CO, BTW)

No problem, with these Arctic temps we are having though just make sure to let the TV warm up for at least a few hours before turning it on.

I think someone got fired for selling you it that cheap, even as open box. I haven't seen any price froma decently legit seller that's below like $949 for the 50 inch ST50. Only sticking with amazon for their dead easy returns and I've got some "amazon money" saved up from trading in stuff...

If you or anyone knows somewhere else that would save me like $200 or more from that $999 price let me know because that would be worth saving the amazon money for other crap but ~$50 price difference isn't worth digging all the money out of pocket...

P55ST50 arrived yesterday. They said between 3:30 and 7pm, and they called at 3pm to say they would be there at 3:45. So far so good. Nice guys, father and son, but they only unboxed and refused to put it on stand etc. Not "white glove" as promised. Due to cold temps, we signed for it with proviso that we did not turn it on to check if it worked. A few hours later ,put it together on stand and turned it on. Works like a champ. Great TV. Love it. Very happy. Disappointed a little with waiting so long and "white glove", but you get over that quickly. Very, very slight buzzing if room is perfectly still when i was running slideshow pics from hi-def-junkies, in order to prime plasma. Not noticeable when watching content, so I am now another happy customer.

looking for the best price on an ST50 - do you think they will go down further after the superbowl? Best price I can find is 1570 from Abes of Maine. Since reading about a GT for 1600, I am not impressed.

I'm guessing you're talking about 60 inch or maybe 65 inch? Amazon has the 60" right now for $1699 and its been pretty steady at that level. I would say keep an eye daily on at least Amazon (since they have a decent price match and they warn when stock is low) or another place. When stock gets low jump on it because even then I think you have 14 or 15 days to price match, which will carry you past Super Bowl by a bit.

I don't really remember last years models getting much more deeply discounted though then what we see here.

Looks like last years best drop already happened by now.... It might happen again this year but who knows depending on amazons stock, if you see it starting to say only ten left or something, then order soon because I doubt a drop will happen at that point...
