Abes of Maine has it for 1570 that's a really good price I haven't seen any cheaper than that from a reputable dealer I don't know what they have for stock I'll explore that.

As far as I can tell that is accurate. The TV and the associated remote/ paperwork still have that "new " smell

Warren

Why would Sears sell an open box plasma that most retailers are selling for $1k for $329? So they knocked off $600-700 just because it was a customer return. Wow $1K plasmas for $329 where do I sign up wink.gif. I smell something but it isn't the smell of a new TV biggrin.gif.

That is a great price but I would be careful dealing with Abe's. Just a quick google shows that they filed for Chapter 11 in November. So if you have an issue you might be out of luck.

Here is another blurb about Abe's and the fact they charge CCs before items are shipped and or not in stock.

Now says the 60ST50 is out of stock. In that link it says US Appliance is not an authorized Panasonic dealer.

Awesome, I posted that, glad someone was able to take advantage of it. I likely would have had I not bought the 60" GT50 the week before.

It was actually back in stock for most of the day yesterday, too. I have an alert set.

So Im contemplating, and I thought I would ask here first.. Looking at a few TVs in the 65-70 range for under $2000.00 ( or right around it.. The 70" Vizio E701i-A3 and a few Panasonics.. The one I really want is the 65ST50.. But @ $2400 Im not ready to pull the trigger yet.. The vizio has the size, but Im guessing nowhere the PQ of the ST50s, but is also around $800 less.. I also see the UT and U models on sale for panasonic, but iirc , they dont have the PQ, that the ST50s do, due to the Panel..?? SO what would you guys suggest??
Also , When are they going to really drop the price on the ST50s, or the 50s in general? and what kind of prices do you think the 65st50 will go for? I've never bought a set this time of year, so I dont know exactly how the "last year model" closeouts go...
Honestly I wouldn't expect much more of blowout on the ST50 60-65s than we've seen as I'm not sure there really are that many left.

I'm not even convinced there are that many 50-55 ST50s left either.

Panasonic has the new models listed as coming out in March and April, I would be shocked if production hasn't already completely switched over to the newer models.

Out of all the models, the ST50 appears to have been the most wanted/least overstocked. I can even still buy UTs, GTs, and VTs from panasonic....but not a single ST50 size.
Pauls wont' even sell you a 60-65 st50 anymore.

I'm expecting one last sale at maybe amazon...and then its "whatever anyone happens to find openbox somewhere"

ST50's have been constrained for a while now. Retailers only drop prices at the end of the year if they need to in order to clear remaining inventory. If they do not have excess inventory, the price is not going to drop significantly. If you are looking for an ST, buy it NOW. You have a few more weeks on a GT. Now or never.....

I searched this sub forum for last years model deal thread for the gt series and read posts in January and February. The price of the gt was close to to those from last year so I just went for it...you can probably do the same for st

Thanks alot you guys Just waiting for the taxes to get back to pull the trigger on one.. Im really looking at the ST and GT, and considering the GT is averaging $150 more, is it worth the jump up?

Answer: Are you going to get the ST50 professionally calibrated? If no, the GT has two pre-calibrated settings, a faster CPU (if you think you'll use the smart apps) and honestly the GT prices have been hovering really close to the ST prices. (They should be closer than 150$ at the 50 and 60in varieties)

With the save $140 coupon at PaulsTv it brings the 50 inch GT down to the same $999 as the ST and Amazon will price match that too so you have the option of buying from there too...

Some of the Vt50 prices are damn cheap too and I would get one of those models based on the reflection issue alone. While they say the picture quality is not that different between ST and VT series, if you have a bright room, it makes a lot of difference, especially with the minimal reflection issues on the VT series. THat is, if you can handle a 55 inch VT versus a 60 inch ST. 65 inches are still 2400-2500 in the VT series. Or as others mentioned, check out the GT series sales too.

Best Buy is sold out online for the 50” ST fyi – just happened last night

Best deal I've seen from an authorized dealer: Abe's of Maine has the P60ST50 for 1570 -$100 (restaurant card from restaurant.com)= $1470 no tax or shipping. Bought a second restaurant card for $100 (plenty of good restaurants near me that I frequent regularly) and they provided upgraded shipping with insurance, in home unpacking and set-up. It will arrive in a week and I can't wait!

Those restaurant cards are worth maybe $10.

They are worth more to me as they work at places I regularly frequent. No skin off my nose to pay by card as opposed to cash....

I just tried the Abe's site to check out the 60ST50. No matter what I click on in the 60ST50's product page I get bounced back to the sites main page. I'm not sure if you saw the post I made a few days ago about the issues with Abe's. I hope you get the 60ST50 and everything goes well. But good price or not I would have never done business with them.

I am officially scared to death and hope they come through for me, I wish I had checked Yelp before I purchased. I would cancel the order but they have already charged me and I have read nightmare stories about refunds. wish me well folks.

Just do yourself 1 huge favor: Forget going to Abe's if you need a refund.
If they haven't delieved within 25days of the charge, CONTEST IT WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD. Just about every major CC will let you contest anything within 30days....and charging before it ships and still not recieving it within 3weeks will almost always get a reversal in your favor.
(If this is AMEX it's an absolute guarantee you'll get the reversal.)

I financed through Bill Me Later, didn't use a credit card. I feel better after talking with them, they will support me and advocate for me vs. Abes if there is any problem. I AM going to let them attempt a delivery as Bill Me Later says I have till April to dispute the order.

UPDATE: it appears that Abe's had taken my money but does not have a tv to ship to me. A wonderful opportunity to cancel my order. However, as I googled the 60ST50 this AM, it appears that the price is going up. I am thinking for $200, I will wait and get the ST60.

I used to drive myself nuts trying to divine the absolute best time to pull the trigger on purchases like this, but I guess I've mellowed a bit with time. I grabbed the 60ST50 from Paul's TV a couple weeks before Thanksgiving. I managed with a minimum of haggling to get $1500 delivered to NY. The rep I spoke with was a real pro and quite congenial -- I would definitely consider Paul's for future buys. And it turns out to be a pretty good deal, plus I've had the pleasure of viewing this beauty for the past couple months. (After 500 hours burn in and a recent quick calibration, I can't believe how good this thing looks!)

One thing about Paul's "white glove" delivery: it seems like the quality of the delivery is truly luck of the draw, depending on the guys who show up. I've had standard freight deliveries that were more comprehensive! The two guys who showed up with the TV were amiable enough, but all they wanted to do was drop it and run. It was almost like pulling teeth to get them to unbox it so I could inspect it and power it on. Filling out the white glove check list, which required over a dozen answers, was almost a joke. I told the one waiting on the paperwork (the other guy had already left the house) that I wasn't completely comfortable with the rush job delivery -- he just smiled and shrugged his shoulders. But the TV was in perfect shape, so I signed. Before I had a chance to dig the two tens out of my back pocket to tip them, he took off like the place was on fire. First time I've seen delivery guys who weren't interested in getting a tip!

I pulled the trigger on the Abe's deal as well. I ordered on Monday and it's still "in process" but it looks like the tv is no longer on their website for purchase. Strangely, I haven't been charged yet. I attempted to cancel the order but was placed on hold for approx. 30-minutes before I gave up. I emailed customer service but no reply. I think this satisfies my credit card's reversal policy so I will call them and have them block any charges attempted by Abe's. Good luck on your quest.

UPDATE: I was able to successfuly cancel the order and no charges were made. Took many calls to finally get someone. I had second thoughts of getting the 60" instead of a 65" so I feel a llittle better knowing I can start looking again.

Pauls has great prices but no longer has the 60ST50 in stock. the Sammy E550 can only be purchased in a bundle. Back to the drawing board. I will never, ever attempt to purchase anything from Abes again.

It's a shame about Abe's -- I've had excellent luck with both sales and support from them over the years.

In the end, they might have been a good company to deal with. But all the bad reviews, pending bankruptcy, and my difficulty in trying to reach them for an order status made me panic. I might have bailed on Abe's too early but I'm going to grab the 60" GT from Paul's for $150 more than the ST at Abe's and be done with it. smile.gif

You won't be sorry -- the ST, GT and VT are all excellent TVs, and the $150 step-up from the ST to the GT is basically a no-brainer.

You made the right move by buying from Paul's IMO. The way I look at it if you can't reach someone at Abe's about your pending order just think how it would be if your plasma needed service.
