Thread Starter
Looking to build HTPC/DVR. I have WHS v1 that houses all my dvd rips. This build will be the central tv server for ceton 4 tuner. It will need to record 4 shows at once, stream to 2 tvs max with room for more in future. Will need to play full 3DBR rips and stream.

Items I have - 64GB SSD + 1TB HDD. Remote for WMC. Internal Blu Ray Drive.

Will run windows 7 + WMC (XBMC plugin)

Grand Total: $590.93
+ $25 shipping

Prefer going amd route as with i3/i5 I would have to purchase gt 430 video card. Ive read that the a8 with integrated graphics is enough to handle everything I need. Do I need case fans? Any recommendations on silent case fans?

Ive been reading the i3/i5 have video problems with frames dropping and the llano is better at it. If I go i3/i5 they said I need to get a gt 430 video card, this way I dont have to buy a video card.

You know..."them"! The ones who write things on the Internet without any factual documentation or real world experience to backup "their" claims.

If I had to guess I'd say someone's been reading the XBMC Forums HTPC forum. Never met an Intel product they didn't hate.

I've been very disappointed with my nMEDIAPC HTPC-2000B Aluminum / Steel ATX Media Center HTPC Case. Specifically the rear adapter card cutouts were not properly formed and removing them to add my Ceton card took tin cutters and pliers to wrestle out an opening to install the card leaving a mangled mess.

I also purchased the Nmedia Media Center Programmable LCD Module, Blue Text, Model: PRO-LCD OEM to add to my case. It is recessed so far back in the opening the you can only read it if you are perfectly level with it. With my HPTC on a low shelf it is useless. It also has low contrast.

I have found the Silverstone cases to be much better.

I have found the Intel i3 integrated video to work very well with an HDMI connection to a Sony 60" TV.
