Throw distance confusion

Thread Starter
Sorry for the newbie question.. I am in the market for a new projector..

I have the Sony Pearl (VPL-VW50) and looking at alternatives.
I am confused by the throw distance calculator over at Projector Central.

Currently, My sony is only 11'6" from lens to screen. My screen is 52X92 = 106'diag

According to the calculator, this shouldnt work. Been filling the screen with this setup for years.. what am I missing??

thanks

IIRC the calculator gives you throw / size / seating distance calculations based on default zoom / screen illumination in fl / etc etc (extra etc thrown to cover my ignorance).

However, and this is where you are in luck, you can manually adjust the zoom if you want a larger / smaller picture size. I had a similar question and realized that the calculator is a guideline.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I just used the calculator for the first time. Am looking at the Epson 8700ub which has a zoom range of 2.10:1. The calculator assumes a zoom in what I think is the exact middle of that range, 1.55. That appears to be not adjustable in the calculator. It strikes me as strange and I posted a message to their staff. Seems to me they could have a slider for the zoom desired, would be a lot more useful.

When I look at/use that calculator - the zoom is adjustable by moving the arrow in the "zoom" box.
