Question about outlet height

Thread Starter
I am in the build process of a 7.1 system. All speakers will have banana plugs and outlets. I am wondering if I should keep the height of the speaker outlets consistent with electrical outlets which I believe is 18", or just keep the speaker outlets consistent at around 10". They are all 4 jack outlets in case I ever decide to bi-amp any of the speakers.
It doesn't make sense to me to have a cable sagging from the wall for a front L or R channel when I could put the speaker outlet 10" off the floor. This of course doesn't apply to the L and R side surrounds.

What have you guys done in the past?

My in-laws had all the receptacles in the middle of baseboards. Very clean look! Baseboards were white and the white receptacle cover plates just disappeared!

Outlets? who needs outlets? Just bring the speaker cable behind the screen wall in a big conduit. if your design has the speakers in plain sight, put the outlets where they will be hidden by the speakers.

I believe with things like that it depends on the State Fire Codes and what not. You could contact your local authorities to see if you can do that and not run into trouble.

Most electrical inspectors will not look at the LV wiring as long as it's not in the same enclosure with the HV wiring.
