Front Speaker help ~$400 pair

I am planning on purchasing 2 front speakers for my onkyo 606 receiver. I have read alot of good things about Energy speakers and it seems like a pretty good option. The setup is 80% music and 20%movies. I want the setup to get decently loud with minimal distortion.

I was looking at buying: Either/or
2 Energy RC-10 for $300
2 Energy CF-70 for $436.98(newegg)

I have read nothing negative about the RC-10 but some people seem to say the CF-70 are harsh. It just hurts thinking for only 136$ more I could get a set of tower speakers that have a high retail value. What setup would yall recommend! Would yall get the CF-70 or are they crap? If there is a better set of speakers for around 400$ please let me know.

You didn't mention a sub, so, for a 2 channel music setup, with higher output expected you dont really want to consider small monitors. I dont care for the cheap Energy's either. I know this isnt what you want to hear, but upping your budget just a hair to $500 gives you a really nice option. I don't know how Newegg has them priced so low, but the Martin Logan Motion 12 is available for way under retail. I would put that on the top of my list.

Lotta people like energy speakers, I've never heard them so I cant say. I own a pair of these Hsu HB-1s in rosenut. These are awesome speakers and have lots of great reviews and happy owners here. They play clean, clear, loud and deep. 1pr in rosenut + shipping=$400

Since your preference is 80% music I would advise against the CF-70. The highs can be harsh and fatiguing so after a little while you may not want to listen to them.

If it was mainly for home theater I'd say go for it!

go to your local Magnolia HT inside Best Buy. They carry the Energy CF speakers. Give them a listen and maybe they'll be okay for you. Not everybody hears things the same.

If you like Klipsch style horn tweeters these speakers may interest you.

They have a side mounted 8" woofer for increased bass.

If you don't need the other 3 speakers just store them or sell.

Thanks all for the feedback. The newegg deal that expires on the 26th deffinatly made me want to impulse buy but if yall think the tweeter is too harsh for a mostly 80% music setup that I will keep looking. What do think about powered PA speakers, is the sound quality reduced? Is there any other speakers yall would reccommend around the 400$price range?

Does your receiver have pre outs for each channel? That's the only way you can run powered speakers.

I would skip the Polk - something to look into, if you are willing
to give up the manufacturer warranty.

I have a dj controller that has preouts for powered speakers. I would rather get non powered speakers, was just curious of the soundquality if I did go in that route. The powered speakers would be for parties. The people on this forum are extremely quick and helpful, I really appreciate it. Please keep the suggestions coming, I am reading reviews on all the speakers yall have suggested.

I am leaning towards some bookshelf speakers so I can dj at house parties rather than having to bring expensive tower speakers(more likely to get damaged). The KEF Q300 seemed like a solid speaker but the one on ebay sold already. Please keep the recommendations coming.

If this is for DJing parties you definitely need to skip the hifi monitors as they will easily fall apart in that setting. You need something like this

Why can't the speakers listed before take high volume outputs for a couple hrs at a time? Whats the point of good speakers if you cant turn them up loud? If you are right about these speakers not being able to handle it maybe I should rethink the speaker type.
