What about 3D bluray drives?

I have heard a lot of people say that any 2X or faster drive can play 3D blurays.
If this is true, then what is the deal with the "3D" drives you see advertised like this LG?

I would really like to find a slim 3D bluray player for my Mini ITX case...
Does anyone know of any that has the firmware available?

I am pretty sure the "3d" refers to the 3d-capable OEM player software (usually crippled Power DVD) that comes bundled with the drive.

A 3d bluray disk can be read by any bluray drive. It's the software that makes the difference in decoding and playing the 3d format.

Its all marketing.

The 1s and 0s can be read by any bluray drive.
